"Dad, why don't you read it?"
Shen Lingxue's expression turned incredibly grave.
Lin Liping and Feng Lulu's expressions were the sa.
The three won were now stunned into silence by the contents of the marriage proposal.
Shen Zhengye sensed sothing was wrong and took the proposal.
As his eyes swept over it, the contents of the proposal made his expression change as well.
After a long mont, Shen Zhengye still hadn't read a single word aloud.
This made Jiang Xinghai a little impatient. "Uncle, please, just read it."
"For the eyes of Duke Jiang: This old man, Du Jingsong of the Du Family, wishes to propose a marriage for my two great-granddaughters to Duke Jiang. The elder, Fangfei, is twenty-three; the younger, Fangqing, is twenty. Both girls are unwed and skilled in both literary and martial arts..."
Shen Zhengye took a deep breath and continued reading, "If Duke Jiang does not find them unworthy, both girls are willing to serve you. My Du Family will offer our entire fortune as their dowry..."
"Uncle, there's no need to read any more. Just tear it up."
Hearing this, Jiang Xinghai shook his head. "This proposal from the Du Family is utterly absurd. How could a humble person like , Jiang Xinghai, be worthy of the title 'Duke'? They must have sent it to the wrong person. Let's just pretend this never happened. I hope you will all keep this a secret to avoid bringing any trouble, alright?"
"Jiang, I think..."
"Uncle, tear it up," Jiang Xinghai interrupted Shen Zhengye.
After a brief hesitation, Shen Zhengye tore the marriage proposal to pieces on the spot.
From beginning to end, Shen Lingxue and the other two won didn't voice their opinions.
When Feng Lulu ca to her senses, she agreed with Jiang Xinghai's assessnt. "I know the Du Family—they're a big deal—but I also think they must have sent this proposal to the wrong person. Even if Brother Xinghai's dical skills are good, there's no way the Du Family would bet the farm on him like this, right?"
"Exactly. The Du Family marrying off two of their unwed great-granddaughters to Xinghai, and throwing in their entire fortune as a dowry? Not even TV shows would dare write a plot like that. It's totally unrealistic. They definitely sent it to the wrong person," Lin Liping added, shaking her head and sighing.
Shen Lingxue's red lips moved, but she said nothing.
Her thoughts were identical to her father, Shen Zhengye's.
'It wasn't sent to the wrong person!'
'This proposal from the Du Family was ant for Jiang Xinghai!'
'The only reason Lin Liping and Feng Lulu think it's a mistake is that they don't know the inside story.'
'A few days ago, Jiang Xinghai single-handedly destroyed the Wang Family!'
'Although the incident strangely didn't cause a huge stir in Jizhou, anyone with discerning eyes knew that so powerful figure must have secretly intervened to suppress it.'
'And the Du Family, being a Martial Arts Clan themselves, might have already figured things out.'
'So, whether it was for self-preservation or to strengthen themselves, roping in Jiang Xinghai was their best option.'
"Lingxue, it's getting late. You should arrange a room for Liping and Lulu to rest," Jiang Xinghai said. He was preparing to pay the Du Family a visit that night.
He was also very curious. The Du Family had nothing to do with his parents' suffering back then and had stayed out of it. Why were they trying to win him over now?
"No need, Lulu and I can just go back to Jishan Hall," Lin Liping said, standing up to leave. "A few days ago, the National dical Saint Hand, Master Xue Zhong, said he's coming to Jizhou tomorrow. I still have a lot to take care of, so we won't impose. Thank you, Uncle, for taking care of Lulu tonight."
"Uncle, Sister Lingxue, we'll be going now."
Feng Lulu then stood up as well and looked at Jiang Xinghai. "Hey, you. Missed your chance to marry into the Du Family. Feeling pretty disappointed, huh?"
"I guess I'll just have to wait to live off your family then," Jiang Xinghai joked.
Feng Lulu shot Jiang Xinghai a look, then took Lin Liping's arm and started to leave.
The group saw them to the door.
Feng Lulu seed to rember sothing. She pulled Jiang Xinghai back into the courtyard, deliberately avoiding everyone else, and whispered, "Oh, right, Brother Xinghai, you still haven't made good on your promise to , have you?"
"You an... the acupuncture and massage?" Jiang Xinghai asked, his gaze knowingly drifting to Feng Lulu's chest.
"Of course! You promised so long ago, but you still haven't helped condition my body," Feng Lulu said, muttering as she glanced down at her own flat chest.
Jiang Xinghai spread his hands and smiled. "My dear young miss of the Feng Family, I've been on ti for our appointnt every single ti, but you always show up dead drunk. I can't exactly get started while you're wasted, can I?"
"So you're saying you were respecting ," Feng Lulu said, suddenly enlightened.
"Of course," Jiang Xinghai said.
"Then let's make it tomorrow night. We can decide on the specific ti and place later. Sound good?" Feng Lulu said.
Jiang Xinghai smiled. "I don't have a problem with that. The real question is you. You'd better not forget what you promised ."
"What did I promise you?" Feng Lulu scratched her head.
"When we first t, you said that if I could ever prove I was a real traditional Chinese doctor, you'd get naked and let have a look. I'm not mistaken, am I?" Jiang Xinghai's lips curled into a smirk as he looked the suddenly pale Feng Lulu up and down.
"I... I... I don't rember that."
'Of course, Feng Lulu rembered it. But how could she possibly admit it?'
"In that case, let's schedule the acupuncture and massage for so other ti," Jiang Xinghai said with a shrug.
"Fine! I'll agree to it, okay?"
Feng Lulu said helplessly, "But... you have to at least make go up a cup size first before I let you... let you look."
