Unlike Dettlaff, who found work in the city, Regis returned to his old profession in the villages outside the city.

There were several villages outside Novigrad. People who couldn't afford a house in the city or couldn't find a job settled here, and over ti, these villages grew. They were responsible for supplying the city with at, vegetables, and fruit. They worked hard, but their earnings were ager. Farrs were at the bottom of the social hierarchy in every country, and even though Novigrad's economy was better than that of other Northern Realms, the lives of these farrs outside the city were only slightly better.

So, when they got sick, they could only go to a country doctor or tough it out. There were hospitals in the city, but the costs were too high for farrs to afford.

That's when Regis arrived. He set up a small hut in the middle of a few villages, and he would often go out to collect herbs and treat people. He charged very little, but his potions always cured the illness.

Sianna was puzzled as to why Regis didn't charge more. With his skills, he would never be short of patients. But Regis told Sianna that all his alchemical ingredients ca from nature, and he was simply a "porter of nature."

Sianna couldn't understand Regis's actions. That is, until she started going out every day to buy groceries for him. No matter where she went, people would greet her warmly. The greengrocer wouldn't accept her money, and there were always gifts left at the door of their hut from unknown people.

Gradually, Sianna began to understand why Regis did what he did.

Learning that everyone was doing well in his absence, Lynn was relieved. He planned to find a boat at the port the next day to head to the Skellige Isles. However, that night, an unexpected guest visited Lynn's villa.

She had long silver hair that cascaded over her shoulders. She wore an ornate robe, but the upper half was a bold, revealing design that exposed a vast expanse of pale skin, a sight for sore eyes. When Lynn saw her, he imdiately recognized her.

Keira tz. Like Triss, she was a royal advisor to Teria.

Lynn invited her to sit in the parlor and poured her a glass of rose wine from his estate. Seeing that the sorceress was more interested in sipping her wine than explaining her purpose for visiting, Lynn took the initiative to ask.

"So impatient, Master Lynn? Is it so hard to believe I ca to see you just because I heard rumors? Can't I simply be curious?"

Keira gently swirled the goblet, shalessly displaying her charms with a smile that would captivate most n. But Lynn wasn't most n, and her smile had no effect on him.

"Of course. You've seen now. What's your impression?"

"Handso and charismatic, just as I heard. Now I see why Triss is so protective of you."

As soon as Lynn heard Triss's na, his expression changed. "Triss... what about her? Is she in so kind of trouble?"

Keira glanced at the obviously tense Lynn, and a wave of jealousy welled up inside her. With her status and position, she never lacked suitors. But Keira was well aware that these n pursued her either for their own vanity and a sense of conquest, so they could brag about it later, or to elevate their social standing.

It was always about self-interest. If she were ever in danger... Or rather, even if they found a better opportunity after leaving her, Keira believed they would not hesitate to do so. Yet, the concern this incredibly handso witcher showed for her colleague was not feigned. This made Keira simultaneously jealous of Triss's luck and envious that she had found such a good partner.

Seeing how anxious Lynn was, Keira lost her desire to tease him and spoke honestly. "Her? No, she's fine. It's just that Teria has run into a little trouble lately."

Keira then explained the situation:

Between Teria and Redania lay the Pontar River. In the marshlands between two of the Pontar's tributaries, there once existed a small kingdom called Embryonia. But that was a long ti ago. The Kingdom of Embryonia ceased to exist half a century ago, and there were reasons for that.

Normally, kingdoms, duchies, or any other form of governnt and society are mostly orderly and well-functioning. The system may occasionally falter, but it generally works. In most countries, the ruling class works hard to govern and manage, rather than to steal, gamble, or engage in debauchery. Among the social elite, only a small minority believe that chaos is better than prosperity. Among the workers and farrs, only a small portion are genuine idiots who only consider today and today's vodka, unable to use their underdeveloped minds to grasp the concepts of "tomorrow" and "tomorrow's vodka." The majority of priests do not corrupt minors or defraud the public but reside in temples, dedicating their lives to their gods in the hope of understanding the mysteries of their faith.

Psychopaths, deviants, madn, and fools stay away from politics, not daring to hope for important positions in governnt and managent, and instead are busy ruining their own lives. Country bumpkins stay behind their barns and don't aspire to be tribunes. At least, that's how it is in most countries.

But the Kingdom of Embryonia was not one of the majority. It was the exact opposite of other nations in every one of the aforentioned aspects, and in many others as well. Thus, the country gradually declined and eventually disappeared completely. Its powerful neighbors, Teria and Redania, did everything in their power to make this happen.

As a political entity, Embryonia was a complete failure, but its land was a trendous asset. The country was situated in the alluvial valley of the Pontar River, where centuries of floods had deposited silt. Over ti, the silt ford marshy soil, which was rich in nutrients and capable of producing high agricultural yields.
