[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]

No. No...

“DOMINIC!”

Every inch of my body trembled as I ran towards my husband, but a pair of arms stopped from going to Dominic. I struggled to get away as I scread. My heart shattered into millions of pieces as I watched how Dominic’s upper body was almost crushed when the giant silver wolf ramd him against the boulders behind him. I felt that unimaginable pain through the mate bond, but Dominic quickly shut his mind off, not letting share the pain he was suffering.

“No, Samantha, you can’t go there! That beast will kill you!” Killian was too strong for to push away as he dragged farther from the beast’s sight.

Olivia! It’s all her fault! That ungrateful b*tch! I didn’t know why I even helped her! Dominic was right. She will never change! Despite Devon telling us that Olivia could be just another victim of Richard Benette’s desire to claim more power over these lands, Olivia was still his daughter. They share the sa hatred. They ca from the sa root of evil, and no amount of kindness that can be shown to them could make them change.

There was no redemption for the likes of them.

And I just learned it the hardest way.

Furious and scared, I glared at Olivia, who was still on the ground and couldn’t get up after her feet were crushed when she got stuck between the boulders. I bared my teeth at her and was about to march towards her to make her pay for what she did, but I was distracted when the giant silver wolf howled in the night sky and was about to finish off my husband with its long, massive claws, ready to tear Dominic down.

I never wanted to do this, but Killian gave no choice.

Bending my knee slightly, I twisted my body and elbowed Killian under his chin, lifting him from the ground for a few inches, and then he fell on the ground unconscious for seconds. I used that ti to get to my husband as I shifted into my wolf form, making the giant silver wolf’s eyes widen in both surprise and fear when it saw the red hue on my fur. I was so angry that my body gave off an electric aura, making the giant silver wolf flinch as it felt threatened in my presence, even when it was triple my size.

I threw it a daggering look, and it froze to where it stood.

His face was soaked with blood when I took my unconscious husband from the boulder between my teeth and headed away from the arch gate of the Moon Wolf Spring. I never wanted Killian to leave there with Olivia, but I had to save my husband first. I had to take him away from the eyes of the giant silver wolf before I could lose him forever.

Dominic was still breathing, but his heart was slowing down. Tears stung my eyes as I ran as fast as I could just to make sure we weren’t inside the guardian wolf’s territory.

[Dominic?] I called for him through our bond link, but he wasn’t responding. I was still blocked from his head, protecting from the pain that the bond link might pass from him through it, and Dominic never wanted that. He never wanted to suffer like that.

Please... Please, Moon Goddess! Please help and my husband!

I looked up at the starry sky, scared, and didn’t know what to do until I saw a billow of white smoke not too far from the spring.

At first, I blinked to make sure what I was seeing was not just a hallucination, but there was a small hut in the middle of the Black Forest! But then I doubted it because the last ti we saw a refuge in this dark forest, it turned out it was a trap—a cage that was set up by the enemies.

I stopped, breathed, and let my instinct tell if the place was safe. I needed a place where I could hide my husband so badly while he healed from his injuries. He needed a healer! Not just an ordinary healer but a really good one!

There was no ti to waste. I went straight to the hut that was made of bricks. The roof was made of dried leaves, though, and it looked simple and warm inside.

Slowly and carefully, I put Dominic down to the ground, and I shifted back to my human form. The night was terribly cold, and I was lucky that there were clothes hanging outside the house. I took a long shirt and put it on. Then, I decided to take the long sleeves and so jeans as well. It was big for , though, so I used a short rope that I saw hanging on the window and used it as a belt to keep the jeans from falling down my small waist.

Dominic was too heavy for to carry, and I had no idea how I could get him inside the hut. I bit my bottom lip because his wounds were still bleeding, and he was losing so much blood. His upper body was blotched with bruises, and his chest was in terrible shape. I fell to my knees as I trembled. I didn’t know what to do! I had no idea how I could save my husband. If I used my blood to heal him, the curse would get worse, and I never wanted to take that kind of risk.

“You can’t drag him inside the hut, young lady. Your husband is badly hurt, and his ribs are shattered like fragile glass. Pulling him with his hands will only worsen his condition.”

All the blood on my face drained when I saw an old man wearing a wolf’s skin approaching and my husband. He was walking with a wooden stick, looking slow and fragile, but I could sense that he was a powerful being and that I shouldn’t let my guard down in front of him. I failed to see his face because he was wearing a weird wooden mask painted with a sad face.

“Is this your hut?” I asked, crouching. I stepped over my husband and I stood with him still lying on the ground unconscious behind . “I am really sorry, sir. I thought it was abandoned. We will go now.”

The old man raised his hand, not wanting to touch or move Dominic. My heart started to race in my chest as he walked around us as if checking out every injury my husband had.

“Can you help him? Are you a healer?” hope suddenly rose in my chest as soon as the old man stepped to look closer at my husband. “Please help us! He’s my husband!”

The old man looked up at and then took his mask off.

I was petrified at what I saw.

“No...” I murmured under my breath as I stared at the old man’s real face. “You can’t be—”

“No, I am not. I just borrowed this face, young lady. "I am one of the guardians of the forest and I have been waiting for both of you to find here for ten years," said the old man, whose face resembled that of Dominic’s dad, leaving horrified. “Your mother had made wait for both of you here for a very long ti.”

“My mother? What do you an? My mother is dead!” I confusingly asked as I flinched away from him. “What do you want from and my husband?”

He pointed at the Moon Wolf Spring that was inside the arch gate, which was still guarded by the giant silver wolf. "The only way to enter it is by using both your blood and your husband’s blood, young lady. The wolf guardian only recognizes those with the blood of the royal clan and that’s certainly you.”

“U-Use my blood, Samantha...”’ Domnic uttered in his weak, trembling voice as he opened his eyes to look at . His voice was hoarse and he could barely speak.

“Dominic!” I quickly knelt in front of him, holding his hand tight. Tears rolled down my face as I cried to him, apologizing over and over about all the recklessness I did. “I am so sorry, Dominic. I am so sorry!”

“This isn’t your fault. I am your husband. I promised to protect you with my life,” he whispered to hoarsely. “

Not too far from us, we both heard Olivia’s scream echoing through the forest and the snarls and howling of the guarding wolf. With my werewolf eyes, my vision zood to where she was and saw her being pinned to the ground with Killian on top of her, his hands wrapped tightly around her neck.

My eyes widened as I saw how the black mist around the place seeped through Olivia’s wounds as if it was feeding on her.

Her own shadows were slowly killing her.
