[Devon’s Point of View]

“What do you an there is still left in the box?”

All of us turned around to look at the old man, puzzled at what he said. I rembered the box was empty when my sister and I pointed the bottle of the cure to mom and I was sure that there was nothing left in there after mom took the lock of hair that turned into a bracelet around her wrist.

Diana looked at as if she, too, was trying to figure out what the old man said.

“Are you just delaying us so we can stay here longer?” Uncle Killian glared at the old guardian and I started to worry. Was there any danger waiting for all of us outside once again, just like what happened before the last ti we were here?

“Did you look well inside?”

Mom was the first to step up to the platform once again and then went to the carved table where the old silver box was. She tried to look as her brows t in a puzzled expression on her face and we all got curious when her eyes widened a bit.

“What is it?” Dad asked as he put Diana gently down from his shoulders. “What did you find?”

“I-I am not sure what this thing is,” Mom answered as she reached for the stuff that she saw in the box. “I swear these things weren’t there when I opened the box.”

Dad started to get worried so he quickly approached mom. His body was tense, prepared to protect her from any potential danger that might happen if the item mom found triggered a trap. Diana and I hid behind Uncle Killian too and he protectively put his hands on our shoulders, ready to carry us and run outside the building if a giant shadow wolf suddenly appeared again out of nowhere.

“Let do it. Just in case,” Dad volunteered to take the things from the box, not wanting mom to get hurt or whatever might happen if ever they pick it up.

“What the f*ck is that?” Uncle Killian murmured.

Even I couldn’t figure out what the thing was for. It was sothing like two small tubes made of gold, not longer than my index finger. At first, I thought I saw it sowhere, but I wasn’t too sure. I turned to Diana and she had no idea, just as I did.

“I think they are like whistles.” Mom said, unsure if she was right.

Whistles? For what?

“You’re right.” Lord Markis answered, still unsmiling as he tapped his cane against the marble floor of the platform. “They are whistles.”

“But what for?” Uncle Killian yelled a little for the old man to hear, thinking it was a ridiculous thing to have those whistles. “What’s the use for it?”

“This is a gift for the twins of the Alpha and Luna of the Silver Crescent Pack,” the old man answered with a dislike expression on his face as he glared down at Uncle Killian. “Whistles in tis when they are both in danger.”

“But for what?” Mom asked, still worried about what it was for.

“To call you and your husband, Luna of the Silver Crescent,” Lord Markis answered with certainty in his voice. “So when they are in trouble, you and your husband can easily track them wherever they are. It is a gift of protection from the Moon Goddess herself—to preserve a rare breed of powerful werewolves because you are the future of these lands. Because you will be the protectors of the next generation of werewolves on this continent.”

Mom was skeptical, but he decided to take the whistles and started walking towards and my sister. Dad followed her, though, still wary of any danger that might happen, and stayed close behind Mom.

She handed it to first, putting it on around my neck like a necklace, and then on Diana. I was scared at first, but mom’s presence sohow made calm as I looked down at the whistle. There were carvings on it that I couldn’t understand. Symbols I had never seen before, but Mom gave a reassuring smile that everything would be alright.

“It’s okay, Devon, there is nothing to fear,” Mom whispered to with a smile. “It’s just sothing you can use when you and your sister are in danger and you need and your Dad. It ans we can get to you faster because we can track you both in a heartbeat.”

“So we will use it when we think we’re in danger?” I asked again, trying to sink in what the thing was about.

“Yes, only in danger,” Dad answered with a smile and then ruffled the top of my hair. “Don’t use it for any silly things, okay?”

I didn’t answer, though, but I gave Dad a mischievous smile, making him tickle and my sister more. Diana and I laughed, and Mom watched both of us with a wide smile on her face.

She stood, giving the old guardian a gentle nod and a grateful smile. “Thank you, Lord Markis, for all of these gifts. We promise we will use it for the right things and make sure to fight the dark spirits until the last drop of our strength.”

Lord Markis nodded back and then turned more translucent until he was nothing in the darkness.

“We should get out of here now,” Dad said with a steely voice as his jaw tightened as if he started to sense danger.

‘Wait, has anyone seen Purple?” Diana asked, worried about the little puppy. I started to panic as I rembered we brought Purple here, but then forgot after my sister and I got terrified about what happened to Mom and Dad.

“Mom, we have to look for her!” I cried, desperate to look for our little puppy, but she was nowhere inside the place! We couldn’t see or hear her!

Diana started to cry, and Mom pulled my sister against her chest to calm her down. “It’s okay, sweetheart, we will look for Purple. Perhaps she’s just outside waiting for all of us to get out.” Mom stroked my sister’s hair as Diana wiped her tears with the back of her hand.

“He will co back,” Dad said with a smile, but I could tell he wasn’t sure about it. I just pretended to believe them despite the sadness because I never wanted Diana to panic and grieve more after Purple went missing.

Mom looked at as if telling that everything would be alright, and Dad put his hand on top of my head as if reassuring that they would do everything to find out puppy.

I looked down at the necklace where my whistle was and wondered.

Could be also summon Purple with this thing?
