"No, we are not going to die like in the movies because of curiosity." Dad grabbed her arm. "We’re not following a mystery passage into potential danger. We’re taking the relics and leaving."

"This could lead us to Black Moon’s hideout!" Mom pulled her arm free. "We can’t just ignore it!"

"We can and we will. The twins almost died today. Killian’s possessed. You’re an emotional ss. This is not the ti for exploration."

"Oh, we are going to explore as many tis as we want as long as it leads us to the right track."

"Or we pause to use our brains instead of chasing after every single clue!"

They were fighting again. Mom’s voice getting higher than his. Sa argunt as before just with different words.

I looked at Diana. She looked back at , mischief in her eyes.

"Should we just go look?" she whispered.

"Mom and Dad would kill us."

"They’re busy fighting. They won’t notice."

"That’s a terrible plan."

"You got a better one?"

I didn’t. And honestly, I was curious too. The passage was just sitting there, door open, basically begging us to explore.

"Fine. But if we die, just know Mom is going to haunt us in the underworld."

"I bet she will."

We snuck toward the passage while Mom and Dad yelled at each other. Purple saw us and whined but didn’t bark. Smart wolf.

The passage was narrow. Barely wide enough for us to walk through without our shoulders touching the walls. It slled weird. Like wet stone and sothing else I couldn’t na.

"Uhm, Dev. This place is super scary." Diana grabbed the back of my shirt.

"The exit is not so far away."

"Should we go back?"

"That shouldn’t be a question."

So we took another bold step.

Our flashlight beam didn’t reach very far. Just showed more passage going down at an angle. We walked for more than five minutes. Ti felt weird in the dark.

Then the passage opened up into another chamber.

This one was different from the vault. Bigger. With weird drawings all over the walls. Wolves and moons and symbols I’d never seen before.

"What is this place?" Diana’s voice echoed.

"I think it’s a.."

A sound cut off. Footsteps. Coming from another passage on the far side of the chamber.

Soone was coming.

"Hide!" I grabbed Diana and pulled her behind a big rock near the wall.

We went low, breathing quietly as possible.

The footsteps got closer and louder then voices followed.

"We can’t keep using this entrance. It’s too risky." A man’s voice. Deep, almost familiar.

"We don’t have a choice. The main entrance is being watched." A woman’s voice. Also familiar. "And we need those relics before they figure out what they’re for."

"The Luna already found the vault. It’s only a matter of ti before she figures out the passage."

"This is not a big deal. We take what we are here for, block the entrance and exit, leaving them trapped. Then we crush this place."

The voices were right on top of us now. I could see shadows moving in the darkness.

Diana’s hand squeezed mine so hard it hurt.

"We can’t kill them, what about the children?" The man asked. "The twin keys. When do we take them?"

"We either find a way to kidnap them now or we take them later before the Blood Moon cos. We need them secured before then."

"And the Alpha?"

"He’s going to die soon in the arms of the woman he loves the most."

They were talking about killing Dad. About taking us.

My heart was beating so loud I was sure they could hear it and just kidnap us.

"What about the cursed one? Killian?" The woman asked.

"It’s only a matter of days before the curse eats him alive. He’s practically useless and he might kill the Alpha for us."

The shadows moved past our hiding spot. Kept going toward where we’d co from. Toward the vault. Toward Mom and Dad.

"These people are so evil, we gotta warn them." Diana started to stand but I pulled her back down.

"They’ll hear us."

"So? Mom and Dad need to know before it’s too late! Do you want them dead?"

"We will tell them. Just let these people get farther away first, it will be easier to escape."

We waited till the voices and footsteps were gone. Then carefully stood up and started running back the way we ca.

The passage felt ten tis longer going back. My legs burned. My lungs hurt. But we kept running.

We burst out of the hidden door into the vault.

Mom and Dad were still arguing. Uncle Killian was leaning against a wall looking like he might pass out. Lila was organizing weapons into bags.

"MOM! DAD!" We both yelled together.

They stopped fighting. Turned to look at us.

"Where have you been?! Don’t tell you went there when I sternly warned you not to." Dad’s voice was scary-loud.

"We’re not sorry for disobeying, dad because when we went in the passage, we saw so people and they are coming for us! Bad people!" I was talking so fast that I almost couldn’t catch my breath.

“Bad people?” The adults repeated in sync, their eyes in disbelief.

“Yes.”

“Did they see you?”

“Did they hurt you?”

“You need to stop disappearing on us. It’s not suitable for your age!”

"No, they were talking about killing Dad and taking us and they’re coming here right now!" Diana grabbed Mom’s hand.

"How many people?" Mom’s face looked like she had seen a ghost.

"Two. A man and a woman. They sounded like people we knew."

At that mont, a sound echoed from the passage. Footsteps getting closer.

"Everyone, take cover." Dad shifted partially. "Now. I’ll go and check it out."

“No, that’s too dangerous.” Mom protested.

“Well, everything beca dangerous from the minute we got here and it’s my duty to protect my pack.” Dad argued, his face twisting with a frown.

“Then I’ll co with you.” Uncle Killian offered, stepping forward.

“I’ll handle it just fine on my own. Stay back here and protect them.” Dad refused.

“Your pride will kill you first before your enemy do, trust .” Uncle Killian mumbled.

“As long as I don’t die in the hands of my enemies, good.” Dad glared at him.

“Just don’t take too long in there and give us so kind of signal if it’s safe to join you.” Mom chid in.

Before anyone would convince him to stay, his body disappeared into the darkness. Leaving us with so many what ifs.
