"I never thought that after thirty years of friendship, in the end it would only turn into this cup of bitter wine."

Imperial Palace, the courtyard of the Royal Mage Corps Headquarters.

The golden irises were in full bloom, swaying in the wind like an elegant flock of butterflies coming to rest.

You could tell this place had been carefully tended. Every small flowerbed was divided in a pleasing, staggered pattern. It wasn’t as grand and imposing as the royal gardens, but this delicate sense of beauty still showed the refined taste of the one who owned this place.

Only, going forward, there might be no one left to tend it.

Felis let out a soft sigh, poured a cup of wine along that little raised mound, and murmured to herself as if speaking to an old friend:

"With how lazy I am, there’s no way I’d help you keep this courtyard in order or anything. So let it follow you, and slowly disappear into ti."

The wine seeped into the soil. The simple little grave mound didn’t even have a na, but Felis knew that although he had been her deputy, this kind of rebel who betrayed the royal family being able to be buried in peace was already the only rcy she, as corps commander, could fight for.

"Goodbye."

She tipped her head back and drank the rest of the bitter wine in one go. Then Felis stood and walked out of the courtyard.

Everything had just barely settled, but there were still many loose ends to deal with. She couldn’t relax yet.

After all, the Royal Mage Corps was supposed to protect the royal family, yet they had “accidentally” lost the most important forbidden-spell core. If she didn’t do sothing to make up for it, then for the next few years their budget would probably only be enough for the corps to live with their belts cinched tight.

"Sigh, now I have to work overti again."

Felis threw her head back and let out a miserable long sigh.

Thinking back, ever since she took over from that old bastard who, even now, no one knew where he’d run off to, and beca the head of this Royal Mage Corps, she’d basically been stuck in endless overti every single day.

Life was bitter. If ti could flow backward, she really wanted to slap that past self who was so overjoyed.

Look at you, getting promoted so fast. If you’d dragged it out for two more months, this whole pile of garbage wouldn’t have landed on you.

Annoyed, Felis plucked an iris and gently rolled it between her fingertips.

Her movents alternated between quick and slow. Often, right when she eased up, she’d suddenly apply force again without warning, making the whole bloom tremble. Before long, the crystal-clear dewdrops on the petals stread down in all directions from the flower’s tiny shudders. The leaves and stem seed to have been overstimulated and curled together, looking especially pitiful.

After playing with it for a while, Felis still wasn’t satisfied. Abruptly, she pressed her finger hard into the delicate flower core and, bit by bit, crushed the entire bloom beneath her fingers, grinding and tornting it ticulously from the outer edges of the petals all the way to the most secret heart of the pistil, not sparing a single spot.

Normally, this flower didn’t even fear the sudden chill of early spring, but how could it withstand Felis bullying it like this? Before long, fragrant juice splattered everywhere, and the whole bloom seed to have had its supporting stem drained away, turning soft and limp, drooping weakly beneath Felis’s fingers. The dew clinging to the petals looked even more crystalline.

If flowers could talk, it probably would have already been begging for rcy by now.

" too. Why am I bullying a flower?"

Felis shook her head, mocking herself, and casually stuck the flower back into the dirt.

"Hm?"

And in the instant she lowered her head, a droplet suddenly fell.

It wasn’t much, but with the powerful senses of a truth-tier mage, Felis could clearly hear the sound of those rain threads falling from the sky and landing in the dust beside her.

"Is it raining?"

She straightened up and looked at the black curtain still covering the vault of heaven. Then her brows lifted high as if she’d realized sothing, and the corner of her mouth curled up. Even her earlier miserable mood seed a lot more energized.

"Heh, so that’s how it is. I knew it. The curtain is still here... young people really are bold when they play."

But no matter what, she hoped this rain would have a good ending.

Back then, if I’d been as fierce as Her Majesty is now, would that ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) flashy slut from the Angus family have ever gotten her turn?

But there’s no point saying that anymore. The past is the past. With Her Majesty’s ability, subduing that dead blond bastard’s son should be effortless too.

She waved a hand, opened her umbrella, and walked into this rainless rainy day.

...

...

Above the curtain, the fierce battle had already reached its end.

Taking advantage of Celicia’s drunken lapse, Muen was finally able to fulfill a long-held wish, pressing this newly ascended emperor of the empire beneath him and bullying her hard.

At this mont, Celicia was clinging to him like an octopus. Her once cool, detached face was now full of dazed confusion, and her moist eyes reflected Muen’s face as his sweat dripped down, as if she were going to drown him completely.

"Mmm, I am... going to..."

Finally, with a violent trembling spasm, Celicia’s small feet, with her black stockings already slipped halfway off, suddenly straightened. Her long, slender, tight legs lifted high, and her small head tipped back as well, her neck long like a noble white swan, flushed all over with rosy red.

Muen let out a low roar too, delivering the last ripples to Celicia.

"Hu..." Muen let out a long breath.

First there had been an unending series of terrifying “punishnts,” then a heart-stopping fierce battle. Even if he could endure forever, by now he was exhausted to the bone. So he stopped moving around, simply holding the girl in his arms like this, stroking that smooth, fair, full softness while savoring the warmth of this beautiful afterglow.

...

...

...

As he savored it, savored it, Muen suddenly sneezed.

"Haha, must be my imagination."

He laughed and rubbed his nose.

"With the sun shining like this, how could I possibly feel cold?"

...

...

"Um, so."

Muen’s expression turned solemn as he said sincerely:

"If I apologize in advance, can I be spared?"

"...What do you think?"

In an instant, heaven and earth flipped.

Before Muen could react, the glaring sunlight rudely flooded into his vision.

He narrowed his eyes and finally adjusted to the brightness, but a cold, breathtakingly beautiful face that was even more terrifying than the sun’s harsh light instantly froze Muen’s heart to absolute zero.

Celicia had propped herself up and was sitting on top of him.

She was still completely bare, her slender waist looking as if it were inviting soone to wrap it tightly in an embrace. That proud, full roundness also seed completely untouched by gravity; just catching it with the corner of his eye made Muen naturally recall the astonishing sensation and springy elasticity from earlier.

It was clearly an intimate scene of naked bodies facing each other, yet the aura around her was completely different from before. If her drunken self was like a spoiled child pretending to be mature, then what she was giving off now was an effortlessly natural, aloof chill.

Silver hair spilled down. With the opening and closing of lashes like frost flowers ca the peerless grace of a generation’s empress.

Unfortunately, for Muen right now, that aloof chill and coldness were like a sharp blade, closing in on his vital point.

"Speak. How do you want to die?"

Celicia slowly leaned down, lifted a hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, and looked at Muen’s eyes with a half-smile that wasn’t quite a smile.

In the end, the charm was different now. This coldness was freezing, but not to the bone.

"I..."

Muen thought seriously for a mont, then answered: "Can I die from bliss? Like those punishm—"

Celicia’s pretty face turned cold at once. Her two slender hands swept over Muen’s solid chest and ca to rest on his neck. Her tone had already begun to congeal with ice:

"Have you been getting bolder and bolder lately?"

"Not at all. I just don’t want to die."

"Why don’t you want to die?"

"Because..."

Muen reached up and held Celicia’s hand.

"I’m afraid you’d be sad."

"..."

For an instant, Celicia showed a look of disgust, and then that disgust turned into helplessness.

She shook off Muen’s filthy paw, stood up, and sneered:

"Your skill at coaxing girls has improved. Just how many clueless girls did you get that experience from?"

"Heaven pity , I’m not coaxing any girls. That was the honest truth!"

Muen raised four fingers.

"If there’s a single lie in what I said, then let my teacher—"

"Enough. I don’t want to hear you argue."

Celicia coldly shot Muen a glance, not wanting to tangle with him any further. Just like that, she stepped on him as she walked to the other side to pick up the scattered clothes.

Celicia sorted through them for a while, and in the end she sighed, took out a fresh set, and began, piece by piece, to cover that perfect, delicate body again.

Muen chuckled, lying on his side and admiring Celicia’s every movent, the curves her figure displayed as the clothes draped over her.

"Co to think of it, what just happened feels kind of familiar."

"Familiar?"

"Like you sitting on , looking like you were about to strangle ."

"I should’ve strangled you back then, so you wouldn’t keep going around harming people."

"That’s nonsense. I was saving girls... saving girls, how could that be called harming them?"

Muen muttered to himself, and couldn’t help grinning.

"Still, I really didn’t expect you, Celicia, to fall into the sa pit twice. Last ti you got drunk, I thought you’d never have another chance to get drunk in front of again... ..."

As he spoke, Muen’s smile gradually faded.

Hm?

Yeah.

With Celicia’s intelligence, could she not guess that bottle of potion had a problem?

If he could connect the dots through the pink bear, would Celicia not be able to think of it too?

Then why... did she still drink it?

"What are you trying to say?"

Celicia had her back to Muen as she slipped on a shawl. When she heard his words, she paused slightly.

"I’m trying to say..."

Muen suddenly covered his mouth.

"No, I’m not trying to say anything!"

"If you’ve got nothing to say, then hurry up and get the hell up!"

Celicia raised an eyebrow and barked:

"There’s still so much to do. How long are you going to laze around?"

"Yes, I’m getting up right now, Your Majesty!"

Celicia’s gaze slid sideways. Watching Muen scramble to dress and get up, she suddenly turned again, and once more looked out through that black curtain toward so distant place.

...

...

"We’re finally going to Belrand!"

After crossing a hill, they could already faintly see the silhouette of that mighty city. Jinze couldn’t help saying it happily.

They’d been out dealing with the evil-cultist incident this whole ti, and he was about dead from exhaustion. Now that they could finally return to Belrand, of course he was thrilled.

"Huh, what’s that?"

And at this mont, Jinze finally noticed the curtain covering all of Belrand, and couldn’t help exclaiming in surprise.

"It looks like traces left after so kind of battle."

The carriage curtain was lifted, and a charming, peerlessly beautiful face peeked out. Those moonlike eyes lifted, and her gaze also landed on the curtain.

"Traces of battle?"

Jinze frowned.

"Doesn’t that an we just happened to co back too late?"

"No. It shouldn’t be late."

Anna propped her cheek with one hand. In her pupils was reflected a silver-white figure. With a half-smile that wasn’t quite a smile, she murmured softly:

"Looks like the real battle is only just about to begin."
