Capítulo 1992: Chapter 1992: I’m Interested in You, So What Should I Do?
(Sixth Update)
Wuyue was clearly overthinking things. Luo Ziling was just teasing her, not taking advantage of her, even in a crowded situation.
Near Confucius Temple, there were many tourists around, and it was crowded everywhere, with people often pushing against one another. But even so, Luo Ziling didn’t seize the opportunity to take advantage of Wuyue and even protected her from others doing so.
This made Wuyue feel warm inside, but also a little bit disappointed.
The phrase “affection grows with ti,” though it has been overused in recent years, originally has a very true aning.
After spending a lot of ti together, feelings naturally develop between two people.
This applies to n and won, won and won, n and n, and even family mbers. The emotions might not necessarily be love; they can be familial or friendly. The saying “distant relatives are not as good as close neighbors” conveys a similar idea. In life, the relationship between two people who can see each other daily is often better than between those who see each other less than once a year—this is likely the case.
Luo Ziling is handso and multi-talented, while Wuyue is a pretty girl in her pri. She doesn’t have much contact with other n and thinks differently from most won. After becoming more acquainted with Luo Ziling, she naturally sees him in a different light. As their interactions beca more frequent, Wuyue’s peculiar feelings grew stronger. She knew this was sothing that shouldn’t happen, but sotis such matters are difficult to control.
Tonight, as Luo Ziling’s temporary girlfriend accompanying him for his safety, she felt quite excited.
She also hoped that while playing the role of Luo Ziling’s temporary girlfriend, she could enjoy so girlfriend benefits.
Like holding hands, a hug, or even more intimate gestures.
Of course, she was a bit afraid of such things actually happening.
Afraid yet expectant, a very contradictory feeling.
With these conflicting feelings, and still having to protect Luo Ziling’s safety, Wuyue felt quite odd today, from the inside out. It was a feeling that was hard to describe.
“Here’s a question for you,” Luo Ziling dragged the contemplative Wuyue to the entrance of a lane, “Can you recite a poem related to this place? If you can, I’ll treat you to a late-night snack. If not, you’ll treat !”
Upon looking, Wuyue saw the words “Wuyi Lane” above the entrance.
Wuyue hadn’t always been a stellar student; she joined the army right after high school graduation without attending college and hadn’t gone back to school since.
Though she was a beautiful girl, she had a bit of a tomboy nature, hence she didn’t have much femininity to her. Because of this, she wasn’t very interested in ancient poetry during her schooling days.
She did recall a poem related to Wuyi Lane, but just couldn’t rember it.
“Can’t rember, huh? Well, obediently treat to a late-night snack then,” Luo Ziling pinched Wuyue’s delicate nose and said proudly, “There’s also a place nearby called Vermilion Bird Bridge. Back in the Eastern Jin dynasty, the famous ministers Wang Dao and Xie An had their residences here. Their children liked wearing dark clothing, hence the na Wuyi Lane. Liu Yuxi wrote a poem ‘Wuyi Lane’: ‘Wildflowers along the Vermilion Bird Bridge, Sunset over Wuyi Lane, The swallows that once flew before Wang and Xie’s halls, Now nestle in ordinary household nests.'”
“I’ve read that poem before,” Wuyue gave Luo Ziling a shy smile, “just couldn’t rember it.”
“Anyway, tonight you have to treat to a late-night snack. I want duck blood soup and vermicelli, xiaolongbao, and scallion pancakes.” After listing a few snacks, Luo Ziling smiled and asked Wuyue, “What do you want to eat?”
“I’ll eat anything. How about I treat you to a late-night snack on a painted boat over the Qinhuai River later?”
“And maybe call a few beautiful girls who can sing to liven things up?” Luo Ziling said with a face full of anticipation, “During the late Ming dynasty, the fa of the Eight Beauties of Qinhuai was known throughout the world. I imagine, now with the population several tis larger, there must be more than eight beauties on the Qinhuai?”
Wuyue was amused by Luo Ziling’s teasing: “If you want to listen to so tunes, I’ll ask a few people to co.”
“Really?!”
“Of course it’s true. Besides, I like listening too!”
“Alright then!” Seeing Wuyue’s serious expression, Luo Ziling couldn’t tease her any further and could only nod in agreent.
After that, the two toured the Imperial Examination Hall of Jiangnan and Confucius Temple, and then Wuyue arranged for soone to rent a painted boat.
At that ti of night, many people were renting boats, but they were lucky enough to rent one that could seat fifteen people.
Luo Ziling, Wuyue, and their accompanying people all boarded the boat.
The boatman, sensing their impressive aura, didn’t dare to chatter much and provided the best service he could offer.
Wuyue really did call a few girls to sing for Luo Ziling.
It wasn’t clear whether these girls were already on the boat or brought in by the boatman, but they exhibited impressive grace and talent. At least in the night light, they all appeared quite charming, and their skill in playing music was comndable.
“The service is quite attentive, like a big steward,” Luo Ziling couldn’t help but joke with Wuyue, “In the future, every ti I go out, I must take you along. This way, I won’t have to worry about anything.”
“Do you want to call a few won for special services?” Wuyue looked at Luo Ziling with a quirky expression, “If you need, I can arrange that for you too.”
“What do you take for?” Luo Ziling knocked Wuyue’s head, “Do you think I’m that kind of desperate man?”
“Hmph,” Wuyue snorted discontentedly, “I thought you wanted to enjoy yourself tonight.”
“It’d be better to co to your room and have you serve properly.”
Luo Ziling’s joke made Wuyue’s face flush completely red.
She turned her head away, ignoring Luo Ziling.
Luo Ziling didn’t mind and listened with interest to the singing and playing of those performing girls.
“The sound of the oars and the shadows of the lanterns line up for miles, the singing girls and flower boats play with the turbid waves.” describes the Qinhuai night scene. “Painted boats and reed pipes, never-ending night and day.” The decadent lifestyle of the Qinhuai River has persisted for over a thousand years.
The lighting was good in the evening; despite the muddy water, the dim light concealed its true color, making it easier to ignore.
“During the late Ming dynasty, the country was in ruins, yet many still indulged in a lifestyle of luxury. rchants’ daughters know not the hate of a fallen nation, as they sing ‘Houlantai’ across the river.” Luo Ziling reflected with emotion, and then earnestly stated, “If I loitered around here every day, with beautiful companions and fine wine, I guess I’d lose all sense of ambition. The saying ‘born of hardship, die of comfort’ must be about this.”
“Young Master, you’re surely not such a person,” Wuyue murmured quietly, “You must disdain this sort of thing.”
“Why?!” Luo Ziling was greatly puzzled, “Didn’t you just offer to find a few won to serve ?”
Wuyue’s expression beca sowhat embarrassed, but she still looked at Luo Ziling boldly and said seriously, “You wouldn’t fancy those common powdery won.”
“But what if I fancy a beautiful woman with refined features like you?”
“Ah?!” Wuyue was stunned at Luo Ziling’s straightforwardness and froze there.
