Chapter 614: Chapter 614: Not Always This Lucky

Lin Lan also spotted Luo Ziling the mont she arrived and imdiately slowed her pace, her usually cold gaze softening with a hint of color.

Luo Ziling imdiately ran over and after reaching Lin Lan’s side, he asked with great surprise, “You’re back?”

Lin Lan took off her glasses from her nose and looked at Luo Ziling intently for a mont, eventually cracking an uncharacteristically faint smile.

“Ca over temporarily for so business, and I have to leave soon,” Lin Lan replied softly, then sized up Luo Ziling from head to toe. “You’re done? You ca over so early?”

“Mhm,” Luo Ziling nodded, “I have things to do in the afternoon and evening, so I ca early. Senior, you’re recovering well. I believe a miracle will definitely happen.”

Hearing Luo Ziling say that, Lin Lan was instantly happy, a rare expression of joy creeping onto her face, “Really?”

“When have I ever lied to you?”

Lin Lan gave Luo Ziling a sideways glance, then prepared to look for Li Haiyang. “I’m going to check on the chief first, wait for a mont.”

“Alright,” Luo Ziling of course agreed.

Lin Lan flashed Luo Ziling a slight smile, then strode towards the small building where Li Haiyang stayed.

Luo Ziling stood at the guard post waiting for Lin Lan.

Today’s unexpected encounter with Lin Lan had put him in a good mood, and he tried to strike up a conversation with the guard at the post.

But to his dismay, the standing sentry ignored him, remaining unresponsive no matter what he said, which made Luo Ziling feel quite awkward.

Fortunately, Lin Lan stayed inside for less than fifteen minutes before she ca out again.

When she ca out, she had already put on her sunglasses.

“I’ll drive you back to school,” Lin Lan said to Luo Ziling with an authoritative tone as she reached his side. “I haven’t had breakfast yet, you’ll treat to so soup dumplings later.”

Naturally, Luo Ziling would not refuse and agreed readily.

However, Luo Ziling was surprised that Lin Lan did not drive the showy Humr; instead, she drove an ordinary Volkswagen with a regular license plate, parked on the roadside outside the sanatorium.

As the two ca out, the Volkswagen parked by the roadside was being ticketed by a diligent traffic cop for illegal parking, who was busily taking photos and affixing a ticket.

Lin Lan was imdiately irked and approached with a reprimand, “This vehicle belongs to the sanatorium, it’s temporarily parked for official duties.”

In saying so, she also proactively showed her credentials.

Although she only flashed the cover of her ID to the traffic cop, the young officer was taken aback, hurriedly tore up the unfinished ticket, and kept apologizing to Lin Lan.

Lin Lan paid him no mind and directly got into the driver’s seat, and Luo Ziling, wanting to laugh, eventually quietly sat down in the passenger seat.

“I thought you were about to beat up the traffic cop,” Luo Ziling joked, “Haven’t seen you in a while, has your temper gotten milder?”

“Today, I’m in a good mood!” Lin Lan uttered lightly.

Luo Ziling, who had thought Lin Lan wouldn’t answer his joke, was surprised and looked at her pretty face before he couldn’t help himself and asked, “Did sothing happy happen? Did you complete a mission? Or did you just receive praise from a senior?”

Lin Lan turned her head and stared seriously at Luo Ziling for a mont before rolling her eyes disdainfully, not bothering to respond.

“Is it because you saw ?” Luo Ziling teased Lin Lan again and then said earnestly, “I’m really happy to see you. I didn’t expect such a big surprise when I ca over this morning. I’ve been worried about you all this ti.”

The first part of Luo Ziling’s statent almost made Lin Lan angry, but upon hearing the rest, the erging irritation vanished instantly and she felt a small surge of emotion deep inside.

She slowed down the car and turned to look at Luo Ziling, asking seriously, “Are you really worried about ?”

“Of course,” Luo Ziling answered without hesitation, “I was afraid you might get injured again, or even killed. Really, did you get hurt this ti?”

“No,” Lin Lan shook her head, “this mission wasn’t dangerous…”

She had wanted to say more, but swallowed her words before they ca out.

Luo Ziling, however, didn’t notice and continued with interest, “When will your mission end?”

“I don’t know!”

“Then when will you return to the base?”

“Don’t ask,” Lin Lan reminded him sternly, “If I can tell you, I will. If I can’t, I won’t, even if you ask.”

“Alright, you miser,” Luo Ziling murmured resignedly.

“I’ll leave after breakfast,” Lin Lan, feeling a little sorry for Luo Ziling for his disappointnt, gave a bit more explanation, “I ca back temporarily today because I have to report an important matter in person. Okay, I’ll tell you this—I’ve been operating within a five hundred kiloter radius. If anything happens, I might show up in front of you unexpectedly. But you shouldn’t use the distress system I gave you lightly.”

“Not even when I was shot at like last ti?” Luo Ziling suddenly rembered the distress system Lin Lan had given him, which he had never used; it seed he had almost forgotten about that treasure.

“What?” Lin Lan, who was unaware of this incident, slamd on the brakes as she heard Luo Ziling ntion it, “When were you shot at?”

Seeing the change in Lin Lan’s complexion as she asked the question, Luo Ziling felt a warm feeling inside and didn’t hide anything, telling her about what had happened that day.

The color on Lin Lan’s face turned very cold as she listened, and she said angrily, “I’ll check it out and find out who did it.” After saying this, she added regretfully, “The previous incident hasn’t been fully resolved, and it’s very hard to find out who’s behind these hired attacks.”

“My senior said sothing similar just now, I’ll just be careful in the future, you don’t need to trouble yourself,” Luo Ziling said, then sincerely thanked her, “Luckily I had the bulletproof vest you gave , or else I could have been killed or seriously injured. I must be really lucky, recently I’ve had so close calls but no serious harm.”

“You’re not always going to be this lucky,” Lin Lan regained her composure, “Be careful and don’t go losing your life or anything. If it really gets too tough, head back to the Northwest. It’s safe there; even if soone wants to harm you, they won’t get the better of you.”

Luo Ziling chuckled and agreed, “Okay, I’ll rember your advice, and try not to get hurt, let alone lose my life. You should do the sa, or we might not be able to et next ti.”

His words unexpectedly made Lin Lan feel sentintal, but she kept her emotions in check, maintaining a cool deanor, and mocked Luo Ziling, “Just take care of yourself. Don’t let keep hearing about you getting attacked. If you get hurt or killed, that would make us the laughing stock.”

“Who would laugh at ?”

“I would!”

“…” Luo Ziling was suddenly at a loss for words.
