Luo Ziling, with a grin, asked the sowhat anxious Luo Yuqing, “You look pretty nervous. Is it that serious?”
“I’m thinking, if we rule out the possibility of being siblings, what should I do.” Luo Yuqing smiled, “I haven’t figured out the answer, so I’m anxious.”
“Didn’t you say that if I’m not your brother, you’d actively pursue and snatch away from other won?” Luo Ziling said half-seriously, half-jokingly, “So you were just comforting .”
“If that’s the case, would you really accept my pursuit?” Luo Yuqing looked at Luo Ziling earnestly, “Would you be willing to have a girlfriend who is older than you?”
“Most of the girls I know now seem to be older than ,” Luo Ziling said with a forlorn expression. “Maybe it has to do with lacking maternal love since childhood.”

Just then, Li Muqing ca back in a hurry with a report in her hand.

“What’s this conclusion?” Luo Yuqing pointed at the conclusion section at the end of the report, asking Li Muqing, “These letters and numbers, D8S1179, D21S11, I don’t understand them at all.”
Li Muqing explained patiently, “These are DNA loci data. Humans have 23 pairs of DNA, half from the father and half from the mother. If there are three different DNA loci between a father and a son or daughter, or between a mother and her child, the biological relationship can be ruled out. Alright, here are your results. You are not born of the sa mother; there is definitely a large difference in the DNA genes in your bodies. Even if you share the sa father, because the only similarities are the genetic genes from your father, there must be so different loci. The result of this test is that you have multiple differing loci, but so of the DNA sequences at certain loci are the sa, so the final conclusion is: it’s impossible to rule out the possibility that you are siblings, but it cannot be confird that you are.”
The test results were such an ambiguous conclusion that both Luo Ziling and Luo Yuqing were sowhat disappointed.
“Can you make it clearer?” Luo Ziling asked Li Muqing with a hint of frustration, “Just tell us directly, how likely is it that we are siblings?”
“Let’s imagine, if you and I were to take a DNA comparison test, all the loci should be different, and that would completely exclude the possibility of a sibling relationship. But between you and Yuqing, there are a few loci in twenty that are the sa, so we can’t completely rule out a sibling relationship. However, with only a few matching loci, we can’t definitively say you’re siblings.”
Seeing that they were still puzzled after hearing her explanation, Li Muqing continued, “Yuqing, let put it this way. If you were to undergo a paternity test with soone you suspect to be your father, most of the DNA genetic loci should match, unless there’s a mutation. If more than three loci don’t match, that would exclude a parent-child relationship. If only one or two loci don’t match, we need to consider the factor of mutation and perform additional locus analysis. Therefore, to determine if you have the sa father, we’d need to bring in your father or collect samples of his blood, hair, or bodily fluids for testing. Today’s test result’s primary significance is that it eliminates the possibility that you are siblings; if many loci don’t match, then you certainly aren’t siblings. What I’m telling you now is that we cannot exclude the possibility of a sibling relationship.”
After saying this, Li Muqing softly added, “Based on my guess, since we can’t exclude the possibility of you being siblings, there’s a good chance you really are. Of course, this is just my speculation, and it’s only fifty percent accurate. The true result can only be fully confird by obtaining samples from the man you suspect to be your common father.”
Later, she added, “With current paternity test results like this, if loci don’t match, our report states that we can 100% exclude a parent-child relationship or state there’s a greater than 99.99% chance of a parent-child relationship. Why isn’t it one hundred percent? Because of genetic mutations, so it’s impossible to report with one hundred percent certainty. Of course, as you know, above 99.99% is essentially one hundred percent.”
After listening to Li Muqing’s explanation, Luo Ziling and Luo Yuqing finally had a rough understanding.
If either of them were to test DNA compatibility with Li Muqing, the result should be able to 100% deny any blood relation, and now their test results show an inability to exclude—that ans there’s a very high possibility they are siblings.
They exchanged glances, each seeing sothing unusual in the other’s eyes.
They thanked her and then left the evidence identification center.
“Let’s just skip classes this morning and find a place to have tea and chat,” Luo Ziling suggested proactively.
“Sure,” Luo Yuqing agreed readily.
So, the two found a nearby teahouse that was already open, ordered a pot of Longjing tea, so fruit pastries, and sat down to talk.
“Where is your father?” Luo Yuqing asked Luo Ziling as soon as they sat down, “Can you obtain his samples?”
“He’s in Tibet!”
“Ah?! That far? Right, you said your father was going to co to Yanjing, when is he coming?”
“Did I say that?” Luo Ziling looked confusedly at Luo Ziling.
“It seems so,” Luo Yuqing wasn’t very certain either.
“He might co,” Luo Ziling hesitated for a mont, then nodded, “Just don’t know when he’ll co.”
