Chapter 146

Episode 33 - Clana Ordeal [2]

─────────────────────────────────

’What the hell is this?’

It was so easy to obtain the heart of a Great Ancient One, and now the blood of an Astral Soul Bird.

I rubbed my temples, feeling a growing sense of fatigue.

In the ga, they had skipped the four items and gone straight to the final one.

So I had no idea what those four items would be, but looking at the bigger picture,

Perhaps the other two items are of equal value to the Heart of a Great Ancient One and the blood of the Astral Soul Bird.

However, this ti my thoughts were more serious.

’I need that blood.’

It was one of the three main ingredients required to create the Supre-Grade Elixir.

The number one main ingredient was the blood of a Phoenix King, the second was the blood of the Astral Soul Bird.

And the third was the blood of an extrely high-ranking bloodline.

I could draw a little blood from Charlotte because, once she advances to 5 Stars and drinks the blood I gave her to awaken her Divine Bloodline,

Then all I would need is that blood and the other supplentary ingredients, which I might be able to obtain from Director Bernice.

’Although the elixir Professor Lunia ntioned, the one that uses the blood of a Phoenix King, is a different elixir.’

After obtaining the recipe book of the legendary alchemist in the cave on that floating island within the Alchemy Field.

I asked Rinna to read the entire book, and I discovered an elixir that requires two types of mythical beast blood and the blood of a high-ranking bloodline.

The elixir was called , and its effects were sothing never seen before.

It seems that the alchemist created it in secret and recorded the recipe.

But since obtaining the ingredients was technically almost impossible...

’In theory, no one should possess a recipe for creating an elixir that uses the blood of an Astral Soul Bird.’

I’m probably the only one, except mine combines more than one type of mythical beast blood.

After thinking it over carefully, I decided to wait for the final bidding price of the blood.

First, I need to know whether it will be more expensive or cheaper than the heart of a Great Ancient One.

If it was cheaper, then it wouldn’t matter whether I obtained it.

’If the price is too high and I try to buy it, they might suspect that I can’t afford it.’

And with the chaos at the auction drawing so near, it was better to avoid attracting certain kinds of attention.

Especially from certain individuals and the auction organizers.

"Very well, you probably think there are only alchemical materials, right? But this will be the last one."

The auctioneer said as he looked around.

"Just like the heart of a Great Ancient One, no one has a recipe for creating an elixir using this blood, but its value is still quite high."

"The starting price is five hundred billion."

And so, the bidding for the Astral Soul Bird’s blood began amid fierce competition.

***

’What is all this?’

Clana looked at a test tube inside a display case at the center of the stage where the auctioneer stood.

Earlier, she could hardly believe that there was a Great Ancient Heart of noble status.

She might have tried to buy it, but the price had been far too high.

She only had up to five trillion gold coins at her disposal.

Even for noble houses or border cities, that was an astronomical amount of money.

But it couldn’t be helped; in an auction, the minimum amount required to participate was normally one trillion gold coins.

’And now the Astral Soul Bird’s blood.’

The next item was just as absurd.

Clana, bewildered, could not understand how the villains had obtained these things.

And supposedly, the final item was the most valuable one.

But in her eyes, the first two were already things that you might never see even once in your entire life.

Although they were alchemical materials, they still belonged to beings that had once existed thousands of years ago.

And they possessed certain special characteristics.

"Eight hundred trillion from Room V55!"

"Eight hundred fifty trillion from Room V89!"

"Eight hundred ninety trillion from Room V100!"

"Nine hundred trillion from Room V55!"

"Nine hundred twenty trillion from Room V89!"

"Nine hundred fifty trillion from Room V100!"

At so point, only three private rooms continued competing.

Rooms V55, V89, and V100 were the last ones still in the bidding.

Clana knew they were probably alchemists.

After all, the item was an ingredient for elixirs.

In any case, the price was rising more and more slowly.

"One trillion from Room V89!"

"One trillion two hundred billion from Room V100!"

Now only Rooms V89 and V100 were competing.

Judging by the rate of the price increases, Clana estimated that Room V89 would be the winner.

Room V100 was raising its bids by smaller amounts each ti, probably because it could not afford to spend any more.

And shortly afterward, the decisive bid finally ca.

"One trillion four hundred trillion from Room V89!"

There was no further increase.

The auctioneer looked around and began counting down from three to one just as the item was about to be sold.

"Well, Room V91 offers one trillion nine hundred billion."

’That sa room again.’

It was the very sa room that had been purchased for the Great Ancient’s Heart.

The heart had been sold for six trillion gold coins.

It was quite a high price for what could actually be done with that heart.

In any case, Room V89 did not raise its bid after three seconds.

"Sold to Room V91!"

And just like that, the second item of the Auction was sold.

Its price ca close to two billion gold coins.

Clana let out a sigh.

She truly could not understand what went through alchemists’ minds.

’Spending seven billion gold coins on two ingredients that have no use.’

No one should have the recipes required to create an elixir with those two items.

Even if they did, what about the other ingredients?

And naturally, any elixir created from those two ingredients would be at least of Supre Quality.

And an elixir of that level generally brought more losses than profits.

Because you could fail several tis while trying to create it, and knowing that the ingredients were almost nonexistent, it would simply be a waste.

"Now then, ladies and gentlen, let us move on to the third item of the final part of the Auction."

Clana ca out of her thoughts, leaned slightly forward, and looked at the Auctioneer.

"The next item also cos from the Mythic Era; however, it was discovered in the Plane of the Nine Heavens."

"This item is a Grimoire. Its owner is unknown, but it appears to have belonged to a Class 10 Dark Mage, containing a form of sorcery never seen before."

The next item was a Sorcery Grimoire.

Clana paid no attention to it.

Although it had belonged to a Dark Mage from before the First Calamity.

And naturally, before the First Calamity, villains did not exist.

It was still a useful Grimoire for present-day Dark Mages.

’There isn’t any item that’s particularly useful for .’

Of course, the items sold earlier were things anyone would want.

However...

’They’re useless to .’

They had no use for Clana. She was looking for several things, but in general, she was searching for relics.

Truly powerful relics.

’At the very least, a Relic created by one of the Progenitors would be more than enough.’

But obtaining one of that category was impossible.

First, because there were almost no relics created by any Progenitor.

Second, even if there were one, it would never be sold; its value could not be asured with re money.

A Relic created by a Progenitor was a power that would alter the balance of any organization.

"Sold to Room V12!"

Coming out of her thoughts, Clana noticed that the Grimoire had already been sold.

Its final price was three billion eight hundred million.

In the end, it was a Grimoire containing Class 9 and Class 10 Sorcery.

Naturally, sothing like that would be sold for an extrely high price.

Shortly afterward, the Grimoire disappeared from the stage, and the Auctioneer said:

"Now we will move on to the fourth item, the one before last."

’This is almost over.’

Only two items remained before the auction finally ca to an end.

After that, Clana would have to return to the Academy as soon as possible.

First, she needed to know whether she would be able to leave without much trouble or if so villain would try to kill her.

Shortly afterward, the Auctioneer continued.

"The next item is sothing that the third leader of the Church of the Black Dawn during the First Dark Era, the Puppeteer Angel, once obtained."

Clana noticed a shift in the atmosphere at the Auctioneer’s words.

’The third leader of the Church of the Black Dawn.’

He had been soone very famous during that era, but history viewed him differently depending on whether one was a villain or an Awakened.

To villains, he was the strongest of them all, second only to the Five Lords of the Abyss.

To the Awakened, it was a great achievent that one of their own had managed to defeat him.

And the person who defeated the Puppeteer Angel...

’Fallen Maiden.’

He was defeated by the first 11-Star Awakened.
