"They’re doing fine; I rember reading in an old newspaper about a species that, after hundreds of generations, had nothing but forbidden knowledge in their bloodline mory."

Doctor Nile flaunted his vast knowledge.

"And then they did sothing big and wiped themselves out, didn’t they?"

Liu Zheng chid in.

"They didn’t even get that far. City Hall classified them as a high-risk species and wiped them out entirely."

Doctor Nile said.

"Didn’t anyone speak up for them? Like, what happened to ’invest in preservation,’ or ’even high-risk species deserve a chance’?"

"Nope. Apparently, the citizens were very supportive, saying all their tax money should be spent on proper matters like this."

Doctor Nile shook his head.

"Tsk, tropolis is sothing else. Even a random City Hall employee picked to wield the sword could intimidate Trisolarians for a lifeti."

He admired.

"What did you just say?"

"Nothing. I was talking about a novel. By the way, since we now have a na, can we search for more information online?"

Liu Zheng had a flash of inspiration.

His old phone didn’t have internet access, but surely the others’ devices did?

"Wishful thinking! You think the internet is so omnipotent tool?"

Guo Koutangzi finally found an opportunity to interrupt.

"What? Isn’t it?"

Anyway, for soone like him with no specialized needs, the knowledge available online felt plenty sufficient.

"Of course not. The internet’s good for browsing websites and casual chats, but obtaining targeted knowledge from it is nearly impossible."

Guo Koutangzi explained.

"Why?"

"Because knowledge is dangerous—and it’s costly."

"The knowledge you can freely find online is like common knowledge. Specialized knowledge requires passing certain qualifications to access."

"Even I can only get through a few qualification gates, let alone you."

Doctor Nile added.

"Are there no other channels?"

"Of course there are, but those special channels are not only secretive—every ti you use them to access knowledge, you’re also exposing yourself."

"This rule applies even to official or semi-official channels."

"Official or semi-official oversight is just regulatory, but the motives of forces behind special channels? Those are anyone’s guess."

Doctor Nile elaborated.

"Doctor, have you used them before?"

Liu Zheng asked abruptly.

"Hmph, who hasn’t been young and reckless at so point?"

Doctor Nile indirectly admitted.

"But when you were young and reckless, wasn’t there no internet yet?"

Liu Zheng teased sarcastically.

"None of your business! Don’t mix your short-lived species’ ti concepts with ours, the immortal species’."

Doctor Nile barked angrily.

"Haha. So, in all your long years, you haven’t made acquaintances with any avian scholars?"

"Actually, yes, but he passed away a few years ago. His corpse was handled by —couldn’t do otherwise. It was in a terrible state, unsuitable for burial."

Doctor Nile said.

"How did he die?"

He asked curiously.

"He got emotionally attached to his research subject, and during... um, the act, the other party got too excited and opened up a massive hole in his head."

Doctor Nile shrugged.

"Alright then. tropolis truly is a liberated place."

Liu Zheng remarked.

"He was human."

"So what? Saying that as if you’ve never been human yourself. Don’t lump groups down into individuals—, personally, I’m very conservative."

He insisted self-righteously.

"Heh."

This ti, Doctor Nile scoffed at him.

Look at Liu Zheng’s ssy harem—more options than at a black-market pleasure shop.

Conservative? Conservative my foot!

"Alright, enough of that. So, since he passed away, didn’t he leave behind any students or successors?"

Liu Zheng asked.

"I think he did? I can’t rember too clearly."

Doctor Nile hesitated.

"Make a call and confirm then!"

"Bossing around without adjusting that tone of yours!"

Doctor Nile shot him a glare but pulled out his phone nonetheless.

"Good evening. May I ask if this is Mrs. Wright?"

Upon connection, he spoke.

"Yes, I’m Doctor Nile. Are you free to talk now?"

"Here’s the situation. I’ve hit upon an ornithology issue and would like to consult your ex-husband’s student."

"Oh? Already an ex-husband? Then how should I address you now?"

"Alright, Mrs. Nidro, could you help get in touch with Mr. Wright’s student?"

Doctor Nile asked resignedly.

"So issue with Mr. Nidro’s side? It’s fine. Let him stop by my clinic soti—I specialize in that area."

"Great, thank you. I’ll eagerly await your update."

Doctor Nile hung up.

"I don’t know if I should say this."

Liu Zheng was itching to speak.

"Go ahead, say it."

Doctor Nile gestured at Liu Zheng’s neck with the Gem Curved Knife.

"Never mind."

He quickly chickened out.

In truth, Liu Zheng had wanted to comnt that mummies were almost eaten to extinction for good reason. Who told them to actually have dicinal properties?

If real-world crawfish genuinely boosted virility, Xu Yi and Qianjiang would beco top-ranking counties within a year, and Old Europe would claim they’ve loved eating crawfish since ancient tis.

After a few minutes, Doctor Nile’s phone rang.

"Hello, hi. Oh, it’s Professor Nidro. Hmm?"

Both Doctor Nile’s and Liu Zheng’s expressions briefly froze and then returned quickly to normal.

tropolis, after all—nothing out of the ordinary.

"Ahem, here’s the matter. I encountered a group of birds called carrion crows and want to know how to drive them away or lure them elsewhere."

Doctor Nile cleared his throat and stated.

"Oh, I see. Alright, thank you. Co by my clinic soti, and I’ll make sure to give you the best treatnt options."

He hung up.

"Are you sure Mr. Wright was killed by having his head opened up by his research subject?"

Liu Zheng raised an eyebrow.

"That’s what his forr Mrs. Wright told ."

Doctor Nile shrugged.

"Aren’t you a doctor? You couldn’t determine the true cause of death?"

"I’m a general practitioner, not a forensic pathologist. Don’t you know different fields are worlds apart?"

Doctor Nile mockingly rolled his eyes.

"Alright, fine. So, what did Professor Nidro say?"

Liu Zheng let it slide.

He wasn’t part of the Security Departnt; how Mr. Wright died wasn’t sothing he needed to care about.

Then again, the Security Departnt probably didn’t care, either.

"He said these carrion crows are most afraid of strong light and intense fragrances."

Doctor Nile replied.

"Strong light? Now this is right up your alley, Doctor."

The devotee of the Sun God conjuring a giant light bulb would be a piece of cake.

"Divine Arts aren’t ant for chasing birds."

Doctor Nile snapped.

"So if not chasing birds, you’d use them to create birds? Though I wonder if you’d ever encounter a tree capable of evolving into a Phoenix again."

"Hmph!"

Doctor Nile, unable to argue, went off to prepare his spell.

"What about you? Can you produce so intense fragrances?"

Liu Zheng asked Guo Koutangzi.

"Does onion or garlic count?"

"Uh... should be. Probably."

He hesitated.

In his impression, seemingly all animals besides humans disliked the aroma of spices.

"Alright, I’ll give it a shot. But let say this upfront—if it ends up triggering their appetite, don’t bla ."

Guo Koutangzi warned.

"I’m okay with that."

Liu Zheng nodded.

"Onions, garlics."

Guo Koutangzi pulled out her legendary soup pot.

"Here we are, boss."

Da Congtou and Garlic obediently crouched down and stretched out their necks.

Guo Koutangzi exerted strength, pulling an additional soup pot from the main one, then raised it over Da Congtou and Garlic’s heads.

Scalding hot oil poured out, drenching their heads.

The sizzling sounds were incessant, and intense aromas of onions and garlic wafted from their heads.

The hot oil, anwhile, dripped from their chins into the soup pot below.

"Wow, is this really how Jiwei Group preps their aromas?"

Liu Zheng was stunned.

"Hmph! This is nothing. Back in Jiwei Group’s pri, every spice had more than two backups. As soon as the fires were lit, the entire street would be infused with the aromas from Jiwei premises."

Guo Koutangzi said proudly.
