"Worthless!"
Yan Chen's eyes were bloodshot, like those of a raging lion!
He glared at Ji Chen, his eyes filled with a chilling coldness!
At that mont, he seed to have completely changed, no longer the composed and restrained man he used to be.
Ji Chen stumbled from the blow, his head suddenly swollen.
But he didn't dare to rub or touch it; he quickly steadied his dizzy body and stood upright before Yan Chen, saying nothing.
Because he knew Yan Chen was truly capable of killing soone at that point!
"Huff... Huff..."
Yan Chen took a few heavy breaths, glared at him fiercely, and then heavily sat down on the mahogany chair.
After that, he picked up the desk phone, dialed a few numbers, and rapidly made several arrangents.
These included but were not limited to instructing the Deputy Director of the Special Service Departnt, Lai Shun, to take over the Special Service Departnt outside Moonlight Forest; instructing the Deputy Minister of the Political Departnt, Cai Peiyuan, to take charge of the captured confidants of the United Front; pacifying Lin Ting; warning Yu Zhengyi, Shi Youxin.
Having made several calls, the fury in Yan Chen's heart seed to have gradually subsided.
He sat back into the darkness, the light shining on his desk, illuminating a small circle.
With his eyes closed, he seed to be sorting through the recent turmoil caused by Tang Feifei and Qiu Tu at the Investigation Bureau and pondering how to put everything back on track.
Thus, after thinking for a good fifteen minutes or so, Yan Chen slowly began to speak, "Ji Chen. Do you know why I'm angry with you?"
Ji Chen, with a large bump on his forehead, kept his head down and said softly, "I know. I failed to handle the tasks the Bureau Chief entrusted to ."
"You failed to protect Wu Counselor, failed to capture Qiu Tu, and let Director Tang and the others take control of the Investigation Bureau."
Yan Chen snorted heavily through his nose.
Then, with drooping eyelids and a face full of disappointnt, he said, "Not only did you not accomplish these, but you even forgot all the tasks I had given you."
He said, "Haven't I told you before? Lai Shun is brainless, Yu Zhengyi is slippery."
"The mont I'm not here, you must closely watch Yu Zhengyi. Pressured by Tang Feifei, he is likely to sit on the fence, offending neither side."
"And relying solely on Lai Shun, you can't outfight Tang Feifei."
"So, whenever I'm not around, and Yu Zhengyi shows any tendency to shirk responsibilities, imdiately put him up as acting Bureau Chief!"
"Occupying that position, he can't shirk anymore. Or even if he does, he can only drag Tang Feifei down with him."
"And as long as Tang Feifei is held back, it will create ti for , which will be advantageous to us!"
In his final words, Yan Chen's voice again carried suppressed rage, "Instead of the current situation, where Tang Feifei has stolen the position, and that old slicker turned a blind eye, letting Tang Feifei run amok!"
Ji Chen quickly apologized, "Yes... Bureau Chief. It was my lack of tiliness."
He tried to argue, "Mainly because Wu Counselor's death was so sudden, and Director Tang's 'coup' was launched so unexpectedly."
"I didn't even have ti to convey your wishes before she directly turned Director Yu against us. She then suspended , expelled from the Investigation Bureau, convened a high-level eting, and established her position as acting Bureau Chief."
"I also tried to et with Director Yu several tis afterward. If he wasn't unavailable, even when he did et, he practiced Tai Chi, and I simply couldn't do anything..."
The actions of Tang Feifei and Qiu Tu this ti were indeed too decisive, and Ji Chen was too slow to react; it wasn't entirely his fault.
So after a cold snort from Yan Chen, he still refrained from criticism.
—After all... before his promotion, he also made a phone call to Yu Zhengyi, hinting that he might be away for a few days, asking Yu Zhengyi to manage the Investigation Bureau in his absence.
Yu Zhengyi had agreed at the ti.
But when he called to inquire about this matter just now, Yu Zhengyi also played dumb, saying he thought Yan Chen wasn't going away, assuming it wasn't official.
Moreover, compared to Yu Zhengyi's habitual avoidance of responsibility, Bai Yu being controlled by Qiu Tu was the core issue causing all of Yan Chen's arrangents to collapse.
Despite being just Yan Chen's secretary, Bai Yu held a high position, and his actions represented Yan Chen.
As long as he was around, the Investigation Bureau couldn't fall into chaos.
Who would have thought that exactly at that ti, Qiu Tu would discover Bai Yu was a follower of Larilo and got hold of the arrest warrant?
Pondering this, Yan Chen couldn't help feeling a bit weary.
Previously, with his confidants Bai Yu and Jia Shu by his side, and stalwarts like Lin Ting, Guan Weimin, and Lai Shun, and even though Yu Zhengyi and Shi Youxin would occasionally play tricks, they were mostly obedient; thus, the Investigation Bureau could be said to be as impregnable as a fortress under Yan Chen's managent.
Yet, in just a few short months, Jia Shu was killed, followed by Bai Yu's arrest.
The protege he had cultivated, Ji Chen, had diocre abilities and was like a wall that couldn't be leaned on.
Even though the other senior officials were still on his side, he inexplicably felt a sense of impending doom.
'How did things develop to this point?'
'rely because of Qiu Tu, the heavens of the Investigation Bureau changed?'
To be honest, thinking this way, Yan Chen felt a bit ridiculous: That small detective from the beginning, was he really so capable?
Having known him for over a year, had Yan Chen not realized that the other was a hero with grand sches?
For the first ti truly acknowledging Qiu Tu's capabilities, Yan Chen took a deep breath, his eyes becoming extrely sharp.
Although the promotion caused a ss at the Investigation Bureau... it was all minor chaos.
He was back now, and everything could easily be set right.
Besides, he was not without the ability to fight back.
