"It must be hard being a Dean like you."
"Ah, it’s all for work. There’s nothing too difficult about it."
While the two were talking, the patient was starting to get a little sweaty, and the female family mber began to wipe her down with a towel.
But as she wiped, the sweat increased, and in a short while, the towel in her hand was actually damp.
She began to panic and quickly called out to Du Heng and Zhou Yixian, who were chatting at the door, "Doctor, co quickly and see! Why is my mother sweating so much? It’s like she’s been splashed with water!"
Du Heng let out a soft breath. Things had stabilized. He walked to the patient’s side to check, smiled, and said, "Don’t worry, this is a normal phenonon. Let ask you, has your mother urinated in the four days she has been in the hospital?"
The female family mber hesitated; she didn’t know.
Most of the ti, her mother had been in the ergency room, and family mbers could only wait outside.
She really wasn’t sure if her mother had urinated or defecated.
The male doctor spoke up, "No, she hasn’t urinated for four days. We’ve used a catheter, but the amount each ti hasn’t been much."
Du Heng maintained his smile, trying to calm the family. "You see, that settles it. In the four days of ergency treatnt, your mother has received countless intravenous fluids. With her kidney function failing, she’s bound to have problems urinating. Plus, consider all the waste fluid her body needs to expel. Can you imagine how much that is? Look at your mother’s swollen lower abdon and the edema in her lower limbs. You should know where all that fluid has gone, right?"
The female family mber looked at her mother lying in the Sick bed and slowly nodded.
"So, don’t panic. Sweating helps expel excess waste fluids from the body. This is a good sign."
After Du Heng finished speaking, the woman’s expression softened a little. Then, they heard the patient on the Sick bed softly say, "I need to go to the bathroom."
Hearing her mother speak was another exciting event for the daughter, but she forced herself to remain calm and asked, "Mom, what did you just say?"
"I need to go to the bathroom."
"Number one or number two?" Hearing her mother express herself clearly, the daughter’s tears stread down her face again. At this point, even if she didn’t fully understand, she knew her mother was getting better.
The thought of it being a last flicker of life didn’t even cross her mind.
"Mom, do you need to go number one or number two?"
"Pee."
"Alright, I’ll get you a bedpan."
Seeing the situation, Du Heng and the others left the Hospital room.
Once outside, the three of them exchanged glances and all smiled.
After waiting for about two or three minutes, they heard the female family mber inside starting to speak, and then Du Heng and the others entered the Hospital room once again.
Du Heng said, "I’ll just do a check."
Other changes weren’t imdiately apparent, but when he took her pulse, the chaotic and disordered beat from an hour ago had beco more discernible.
Not bad, the dicine is working very well. Du Heng withdrew his hand and stood up. "The patient is recovering. Please keep a close watch on her. Rember, she’s sweating a lot right now, so don’t let her catch a cold. She won’t need any more dicine tonight; just let the dose she just took continue to work. I’ll co back tomorrow morning and see if the prescription needs adjustnt."
With that said, Du Heng bid them farewell and left.
Zhou Yixian and the male doctor had just spoken with Du Heng and knew he intended to return to his clinic, so they didn’t try to detain him.
As they watched Du Heng’s retreating figure, their astonishnt did not diminish.
A single dose of dicine, half an hour, and a dying, critically ill patient was saved, just like that.
If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, they would have dismissed anyone else’s account as re boasting.
The male doctor was even more shocked. He had heard from Li Qiuhua’s son that Du Heng took a whole night to save his mother. With Li Qiuhua standing right there before him, solid and real, he had to believe in Du Heng’s skill. However, he felt the son’s claim of ’a whole night’ was an exaggeration, possibly intended to hype up Du Heng.
But now, seeing Du Heng rescue a patient they were helpless to save in such a short ti, he felt Li Qiuhua’s son had actually understated it.
In fact, the son’s words were an understatent. Du Heng hadn’t taken a whole night to save Li Qiuhua; he had already saved her in the first half of the night. At 2 a.m., he even had Wu Buwei buy her so noodles to eat.
After giving his instructions, Du Heng hurried back to the Health Clinic.
It was already past closing ti. On his way back, Du Heng called Yu Haiting, asking him to stay a little longer and wait for him.
As for the patient in the Municipal First Hospital Ergency Departnt, there was no longer any need to worry.
Tonight, until tomorrow morning, they only needed to do two things: one was to diligently wipe the patient’s sweat and ensure she didn’t catch another chill. The other was to continue caring for the patient, specifically making sure she didn’t wet the bed.
Considering the severe swelling and inflammation in the patient’s lower limbs, a large amount of urine would be expelled that night.
Back at the Health Clinic, Du Heng began preparing for the next day’s tasks. Everything had to be dealt with in advance, as he was officially starting at the Provincial First Hospital’s outpatient service tomorrow.
However, no matter how Du Heng arranged things, there was one matter he couldn’t resolve: the acupuncture treatnt for his paralyzed patients.
Wu Buwei had been away for several days, and Du Heng couldn’t find anyone to replace him and perform the acupuncture treatnts.
After a long period of frustration, Du Heng secretly decided that tomorrow he would work at the outpatient service for half the day and then, instead of going to the hospital wards in the afternoon, he absolutely had to rush back to treat his own patients.
He absolutely couldn’t mistake his priorities.
「One night passed without incident.」
Before the sun rose the next day, Du Heng woke the nurse on duty. After giving her instructions, he hurried to the Municipal First Hospital Ergency Departnt.
He had to get everything settled before starting his shift at the Provincial First Hospital.
When he arrived, it was only 6 a.m.
Yet, the Ergency Departnt of the Municipal First Hospital was still incredibly busy.
He could see intense fatigue in the eyes of every dical staff mber coming and going. So nurses’ eyes were completely bloodshot.
Du Heng couldn’t help but sigh. The Health Clinic may be small, but it’s not entirely without rit; at least they don’t have to push themselves to the brink like this.
Finding the male doctor from yesterday, Du Heng saw he looked haggard as he just ca out of the resuscitation room. Seeing Du Heng, he took a mont to react. "Doctor Du?"
"What happened to you?"
"Last night, a construction-site scaffold near the hospital collapsed, and more than twenty workers fell. We just finished with the last one."
Truthfully, Du Heng had imnse respect for these colleagues in ergency dicine; it wasn’t a job most people could endure.
"Sorry to disturb your rest, but let’s go see yesterday’s patient now."
"Doctor Du, you’re here so early. Is there sothing urgent?"
Du Heng didn’t hide it. "Yes, I have to go to the outpatient service at the Provincial First Hospital later, so I need to finish up here early."
The male doctor’s spirits lifted slightly. Going to the Provincial First Hospital’s outpatient service... with Doctor Du’s skills, he definitely wouldn’t be there to do nial tasks. So, it’s highly likely he’ll be... holding consultations?
"Alright, I’ll take you there." The male doctor abandoned the thought of resting imdiately and turned to lead Du Heng. Of course, as the patient’s attending Physician, it was his duty.
"The patient was in good condition last night. Around ten o’clock, her sweating slowed down, and after midnight, it basically stopped completely. However, she urinated frequently throughout the night—almost 3,000 milliliters, according to her daughter. She also had one bowel movent."
"That’s a lot of urine. Did you check the patient’s lower limbs? Has the swelling eased?"
"Sigh... I was too busy last night. I only managed to slip in and ask briefly; I haven’t had a chance to do a detailed check."
Du Heng nodded in understanding and kept pace with the male doctor.
It had to be said, Ergency Doctors worked fast, and they walked fast too.
This male doctor was like that now, and so was Deng Jia, the female doctor who had guided Du Heng yesterday.
Arriving at the Hospital room, they gently woke the female family mber dozing by the Sick bed. After Du Heng’s brief inquiries, the answers he received were much the sa as what the male doctor had reported.
Then Du Heng examined the patient.
The swelling in her abdon and lower limbs had mostly subsided, and wrinkles had even appeared on the dorsum of her feet.
