Leader Zhang's face softened a little; he was no longer as gloomy as before, but a trace of anger still lingered in his heart. Despite Du Heng's noble-sounding words, his core concern remained Wu Shengnan's safety.
However, what Du Heng said was reasonable. In the six months since Wu Shengnan had joined the team, her work attitude was beyond reproach. This was especially comndable considering she was the child of a Big Leader. Nonetheless, in their front-line team, her professional ability and physical fitness genuinely lagged. Enthusiasm sotis really isn't enough to make up for a deficiency in ability.
Leader Zhang took a shallow breath. "Doctor Du, you have a point. But regarding a job transfer, we still need to consider the individual's wishes. If Shengnan genuinely wants to leave, I certainly won't stop her.
But, as you said, Shengnan is an accomplished individual, especially since she single-handedly apprehended a homicide suspect today. This is an achievent deserving reward, and I have no reason to drive away soone who has demonstrated rit and earned recognition."
Seeing that he couldn't persuade Leader Zhang, Du Heng realized he would have to focus on Wu Shengnan to achieve his goal. Therefore, he said no more. After Wu Shengnan finished her work, he went straight ho.
After returning ho, Du Heng wanted to have an honest conversation with Wu Shengnan about the matter. However, she was still imrsed in her excitent, and he couldn't bring himself to say anything. At this mont, bringing up the idea of her leaving the front-line team not only had a low chance of success but could also lead to an argunt between them.
Although the issue remained unspoken, whenever Du Heng closed his eyes that night, the image of a glinting dagger would appear in his mind.
After a restless night, Du Heng woke to find the blisters on his mouth hadn't diminished. Instead, many new ones had appeared under his nostrils, an area previously less affected, hanging down like clusters of grapes from his upper lip. The pain was so intense, fiery and burning, that even drinking water felt like a luxury.
Once at the Hospital, Du Heng had no mind to work. He just went to the Pharmacy to get so dicine for himself and then locked himself in his office. This continued for a week.
However, Du Heng's actions puzzled those in the Hospital who were usually preoccupied. They had originally thought Du Heng would start his new official post with the "three fires" of a new appointee and were prepared to confront him. But when Du Heng raised his taphorical "big stick" high only to set it down gently, it left them feeling deeply unsettled.
Gao Qin never went to her clinic again. The staff from the Pediatrics Departnt and Pediatric Care Departnt who had gone to the Post-partum Care Center also quietly returned to their operation after observing the situation for a couple of days. They didn't know what "sches" Du Heng was plotting, but the more they failed to understand, the more panicked they beca.
During this period, Wu Shengnan was completely absorbed in her work. She didn't even go ho for several days, her enthusiasm for her job at its absolute peak.
Today, Wu Shengnan again wanted to work overti through the night, but Du Heng simply couldn't stand her frenetic energy any longer.
"Du, this guy still has more to spill, but he's about to break," Wu Shengnan said, her voice full of excitent. "You go ho first; don't wait for ."
Du Heng remained silent. He gestured for her to sit in a chair, then squatted before her and reached for her pant leg.
As he pulled up the pant leg, Wu Shengnan's injured calf was revealed. The skin, which had been healing well and smoothing out, now showed faint purple marks again.
Du Heng sighed silently and then gently removed her shoes and socks.
At this, not only was Du Heng quiet, but Wu Shengnan also suppressed her excitent, watching him carefully.
"Du, I..."
"This is your job, and you love it; I shouldn't say too much. But look at your foot! It's swollen like a pig's trotter, and the veins are blue and bulging."
"But this suspect is about to..."
Du Heng looked up at Wu Shengnan, his brow tightly furrowed. His expression made Wu Shengnan trail off.
"If you still want that foot, you're coming ho with now to rest properly for the next few days. If you don't, I won't force you. After all, it's your foot."
After speaking calmly, Du Heng bent down again and put her socks and shoes back on. Then, he clapped his hands lightly, stood up, and faced her with a composed expression, awaiting her decision.
Wu Shengnan hesitated. She had worked hard for a week, and with results almost in sight, she didn't want to pull out at this critical juncture. But seeing Du Heng's calm gaze, then looking at her own foot, an inexplicable unease churned within her.
After a long hesitation, Wu Shengnan finally stood. "Alright, I'll listen to you and go ho now," she said. "But I need to inform my leader first."
Hearing this, a smile finally touched Du Heng's lips. "Good. I'll go with you. If your Leader Zhang disagrees, he'll have to answer to."
Wu Shengnan shot him a smiling glare. "You're certainly the assertive one."
When they found Leader Zhang and explained the situation, he waved his hand generously. "Shengnan, go ho and rest easy. Trust your colleagues; they certainly won't let your efforts be in vain."
