Capítulo 923: Chapter 48: Regency! Minister of Care

The twilight was like silk soaked in ink, slowly covering the glazed tiles deep within the Imperial Palace.

Golden dragon columns were lit with bright lamps, and two silhouettes paced slowly along the corridor, one behind the other.

The armor of the guards reflected a cold light resembling blue scales in the lamplight, casting its glow on the sowhat tense face of the Crown Prince.

This road to the Yangxin Hall, he had walked hundreds of tis, yet this ti, every step he took was filled with unease!

For over two months, the Emperor had not convened a major court assembly, and the Crown Prince had not seen the Emperor either.

He naturally sensed the changes within the Imperial Palace.

However, he did not make any unusual moves.

During this period, he stayed honestly in the Eastern Palace, without summoning any ministers or sending anyone to the palace to inquire about news, as if he was completely unaware of the changes happening in the palace.

And just tonight, the Crown Prince was suddenly summoned by the Emperor!

Moreover, he learned that both Grand Secretary Ye Ze’an and Military Affairs Grand Marshal Wenren Zheng were also summoned.

The Emperor, who had been absent for such a long ti, suddenly summoning the Crown Prince, Grand Secretary, and Great Marshal simultaneously at night, naturally made anyone think!

A mont later, the Crown Prince arrived at the Yangxin Hall and stepped inside.

A strong scent of dicine filled the air, even the sandalwood incense constantly burning inside the hall couldn’t completely cover it.

Directly ahead was a bright yellow curtain, and behind it was the Emperor’s dragon bed, with a faint silhouette lying on top.

Imperial Eunuch Feng Cheng stood guard beside the curtain.

State Preceptor Yun Shu, who was supposed to be in seclusion for healing, was also present, sitting on the left chair with eyes closed, resting.

Upon entering the hall and seeing this scene, the Crown Prince’s heart skipped a beat, and he clenched his fists, digging his fingers deeply into his palms.

He stepped forward and greeted with clasped hands:

“Your son pays respects to Father!”

The silhouette behind the curtain did not speak, but Feng Cheng, standing by, said:

“Please wait a mont, Your Highness the Crown Prince.”

The Crown Prince nodded and walked over to Yun Shu, taking a seat beside him.

Soon, footsteps were heard from outside the hall.

The Crown Prince turned to look, only to see the burly Wenren Zheng walking expressionlessly into the Yangxin Hall.

This ‘Military God,’ even though he had restrained his aura, made the Crown Prince feel as though the entire hall was filled, as if squeezed by a mountain!

Wenren Zheng first greeted the Emperor on the dragon bed with clasped hands, then sat opposite Yun Shu.

After a while, Ye Ze’an entered the hall, unable to hide his fatigue.

Recently, the case of the New Heaven Association had led to many officials being imprisoned, yet the court remained calm, and all political affairs proceeded smoothly and orderly.

This was all thanks to Lord Chief Minister Ye Ze’an.

After Ye Ze’an arrived, Feng Cheng continued to stand quietly in place, seemingly waiting for soone else.

“Who else are we waiting for?”

The Crown Prince’s thoughts raced.

A few minutes later, a relatively brisk footstep was heard from outside the hall.

The Crown Prince turned to look and saw a golden robe co into view.

“Li Fei?”

The Crown Prince was montarily stunned.

Li Fei was also taken aback to see these individuals in the hall.

The day he returned to the capital, he had actively requested an audience with the Emperor, but the Emperor had not summoned him into the palace.

Until tonight, he suddenly received the ssage that the Emperor wanted to see him.

Upon entering the Yangxin Hall, he saw the Crown Prince, State Preceptor, Grand Secretary, and Military Affairs Grand Marshal all present!

The lineup imdiately made Li Fei realize that things were not simple.

“Could it be…”

Looking at the silhouette lying on the bed behind the curtain, Li Fei felt a tightening in his chest:

“Minister Li Fei pays respects to Your Majesty.”

With his perception skills, not to ntion a curtain, he could clearly sense what was behind a wall.

But at this mont, the bright yellow curtain before him blocked all his senses, leaving him unable to perceive the situation behind it, and unsure of the Emperor’s condition.

“Greetings to Your Highness the Crown Prince, greetings to State Preceptor, greetings to Lord Chief Minister, greetings to Great Marshal.”

Li Fei greeted each of the four others in turn.

Only then did Feng Cheng make a move; he took an Imperial Decree from his sleeve.

The four seated individuals stood up together with Li Fei, all facing the bright yellow curtain, their gaze on Feng Cheng.

“Crown Prince, receive the decree!”

Feng Cheng announced loudly.

The Crown Prince’s body trembled slightly. Without any hesitation, he knelt before the bright yellow curtain.

He fixed his gaze on the dragon embroidered on the curtain, the gold thread flickering under the candlelight, and the dragon’s claws seemingly about to clutch his throat!

“The Emperor’s health is stable. The Crown Prince will begin to oversee state affairs imdiately. All morials and military matters will be jointly decided by the Eastern Palace and the Central Cabinet.”

Feng Cheng finished reading the Imperial Decree.

A simple sentence, yet it landed heavily in the Great Hall like a mountain, shaking everyone’s heart and spirit!

The Crown Prince overseeing state affairs!

In front of the State Preceptor, the Grand Secretary, and the Military Affairs Grand Marshal, the Emperor had soone read such an Imperial Decree. The weight and implication of this needed no further explanation.

Li Fei was equally shocked!

He did not expect the Emperor to suddenly summon him just to witness such an Imperial Decree.

For such a significant matter like appointing the Crown Prince to oversee the governnt, it needed to be witnessed by important court ministers, or else the transition of power could not be guaranteed, nor could it reassure all civil and military officials.

State Preceptor Yun Shu represented the National Fortune and orthodoxy, and also embodied the peak’s strength.

Ye Ze’an represented the civil servants.

Wenren Zheng represented the military generals.

For the Crown Prince to oversee the governnt, obtaining approval from these three was beyond question.

And the Emperor also called Li Fei.

Without a doubt, this showed the importance and trust placed in Li Fei.

At the sa ti, it provided him with trendous ‘political dividends’!

As this evening’s testimony spread, Li Fei’s political status in the court would instantly rise to just below Yun Shu, Ye Ze’an, and Wenren Zheng!
