Chapter 456: Chapter 7 Entering the City with a Single Sword

The ascetic monk brought his hands together, bowed his head slightly, and answered, “I haven’t seen anyone.”

“You really didn’t see anyone?” A venomous gaze, akin to a python’s, slithered across the ascetic monk’s visage, seemingly scrutinizing him.

“An ascetic cares only for the path under his feet, and dares not to gaze towards the distant horizons above. There might have been cultivators passing by, but I truly have not seen them,” said the ascetic monk, lowering his head in respect, yet speaking with neither servility nor overbearance.

“Boss, this monk is lying to you.” Suddenly, one of the dozen or so sand bandits behind the leading figure spoke up.

“Oh?” A chilling look crossed the leader’s face.

This subordinate of his was tasked with interrogation and was extrely adept at observing people’s expressions and words.

For those who were not deeply calculating, he could often see through any lies in just a glance, and clearly, the monk before them was not skilled at telling lies.

The next mont, the leader reached out and grabbed the monk by the neck, hoisting him into the air, “Didn’t the Buddha teach you that monks should abstain from false speech?”

“Speak, which direction did he go?” As the leader applied slight pressure, the monk’s complexion instantly turned ashen.

Having just embarked on the path of self-mortification and cultivation, the monk faced a test of his spiritual journey.

If he remained silent, his life would be in jeopardy.

But, if he spoke, it would an choosing to abet tyranny under duress.

His inner peace shattered, his cultivation would beco impossible.

The ascetic monk, who had hitherto looked down and avoided direct eye contact with the group of sand bandits, finally raised his head for the first ti to et the leader’s sinister gaze, and recited calmly, “The first precept: maintain a mind like that of a true person for an entire day and night. Be free of malice, compassionate towards all beings, and do not deceive or injure any sentient life.”

“Have no dealings with delinquent n!” The ascetic monk spoke each word deliberately and clearly.

“Very good, very good,” the leader chuckled ominously, “Worthy of an ascetic monk, willing to sacrifice your life for soone you hardly know; your state of mind is indeed lofty.”

“Since your state of mind is so lofty, I guess I’ll send you to the Buddha’s presence so you can discuss the scripture with him.” The next mont, the leader unhesitatingly made his move to kill.

Hiss!

The hand holding the monk’s neck turned a sudden green, releasing a sinister toxic force, and crushed the ascetic monk’s neck instantly.

The monk’s face froze, his body swayed, and then he collapsed suddenly to the ground.

Blood flowed profusely from where his neck had been, soaking into the fiery sand beneath him, vanishing without a trace.

The leader glanced emotionlessly at the body of the monk, “What I despise most in life are these sanctimonious monks who, though rely commoners, consider themselves saints.”

“Boss, what do we do next?” the sand bandit who had spoken before asked.

After so thought, the leader replied, “Continue the pursuit toward the east. This person initially headed eastward.

However, later on, for so reason, he changed direction several tis. Now that we’ve lost him, all we can do is follow the original route.”

“But sooner or later, we’ll catch up with him,” said the leader ominously, “after all, he has our mark on him…”

If it weren’t for the fact that a storage ring could block their sensing of the mark, they wouldn’t have to go through such trouble chasing him, he thought to himself.

“Fine.” The bandits responded in unison.

Suddenly, a dozen figures rose into the sky, disappearing into the horizon.

And at the original spot, a gust of wind blew by, and the rising quicksand soon buried the monk’s body, hidden beneath it.

Turning the vast desert into his grave.

….

In the desert, the two biggest sensations are:

First, the boundless expanse of heaven and earth; second, one’s own insignificance.

Even Lu Qingshan, who had reached the Nascent Soul Realm, couldn’t help feeling a bit of this sentint.

Yet, an ascetic monk with only Qi Refining Cultivation dared to traverse the desert on foot.

Those who endure the greatest hardships can beco superior beings.

There’s a reason why ascetic monks often grow to beco powerful cultivators.

Following the direction indicated by the monk earlier, Lu Qingshan checked the map for a while and moved on.

He did not exert his full speed because in these circumstances, if the direction was incorrect, moving at top speed would only waste ti if he deviated even slightly.

However, not long after putting the map back into the storage ring, Lu Qingshan’s eyebrows suddenly twitched.

Within his Divine Sense, he detected a dozen cultivators trailing behind him, flying toward his location with clear intent, obviously not passing by coincidence.

With the leader of the sand bandit cultivators approaching with a rush, it didn’t take long for them to draw near Lu Qingshan.

Lu Qingshan lifted his head, eyeing the leader of the group, a cold glint in his eyes and a sneer on his lips, he muttered to himself, “Sand bandits, eh?”

anwhile, observing the calm and steady Lu Qingshan lifting his head, the leader’s face changed, and his eyes filled with caution.

For he could not discern Lu Qingshan’s actual cultivation level!

“Has he mastered so special Techniques, or does he possess a Magic Artifact?” the leader wondered, his eyes betraying a hint of greed.

For people like him, Techniques or Magic Artifacts that could conceal one’s aura were incredibly attractive.

“Boss, is it this kid?” While the leader was still assessing Lu Qingshan, one of the accompanying sand bandits, a particularly burly cultivator with rough, dark skin, asked.

Sand bandits typically exhibit two types of personality traits.

One is like the leader, cautious and ruthless, having survived nurous sleazy and sordid encounters to beco cunning and wily.
