Chapter 704: Chapter 28: Underworld Cultivator Lu Qingshan_2

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Lu Qingshan’s heart was struck by a thunderclap.

The highest cultivation among the cultivators the Human Race sent to defend the passes, except for Yun Pass, was only at the Seventh Realm.

Of course, this wasn’t because the Human Race lacked manpower; after all, even at their weakest, they could still muster more than a dozen Eighth Realm cultivators.

This was a tacit agreent reached across the void between the Human Race and the Demon Race—not to deploy cultivators above the Seventh Realm in minor city passes, and similarly, the Demon Race didn’t use Demon Race mbers above Seventh Grade when attacking these minor passes.

For both sides, cultivators or demons at this level were not easily expendable, and thus not readily deployed.

Though the Demon Race had a surplus of population, this was only true for the low-grade demons.

No matter the ti, demons above Seventh Grade, in the Abyss, always held high positions of status and authority. How could they possibly be used as cannon fodder to clash against the Human Race?

If the Demon Race dared to do this, the first to object would be those high-grade demon warriors themselves.

Moreover, if the Human Race deployed Eighth Realm cultivators to defend a pass, the Demon Race would have to send Eighth Grade demons to break through, in order not to suffer losses for nothing.

An Eighth Grade battle – how fierce would that be? Such fighting would quickly escalate a regular siege into a grand decisive battle.

On the Demon Race’s side, they were extrely wary of Ancestral Daoist Xia’s presence. The Human Race, similarly, had many apprehensions about the Demon Race.

Both parties were reluctant to escalate to a grand decisive battle without adequate preparation, thus maintaining considerable restraint.

This ti, however, the Demon Race had dispatched dozens of Seventh Grade demons to attack Falling Goose Pass. Their determination to ensure victory was clear – without being able to deploy Eighth Grade Demon Lords, they had to stack the numbers of Seventh Grade demons to secure victory in the campaign.

The cultivator’s voice grew weaker and weaker, eventually fading to silence, as he clung to his last breath, staring intensely at Lu Qingshan.

In an instant, Lu Qingshan understood the cultivator’s ssage and nodded slightly, promising, “I will make sure this ssage reaches Falling Goose Pass.”

Upon hearing Lu Qingshan’s promise, the cultivator’s body stiffened once more, unable to sustain itself, as his breath suddenly cut off and he fell backwards, dead.

Seeing the cultivator collapse, Lu Qingshan’s heart sank, and he let out a silent sigh.

He dared not waste any more ti. He quickly buried the unknown cultivator of Falling Goose Pass and rose to his feet, prepared to rush to Falling Goose Pass at full speed.

This was critical information concerning the life and death of every cultivator defending the pass, and he had to deliver it on ti.

“The first ti I enter the battlefield beyond the realms, and I encounter such a situation,” Lu Qingshan couldn’t help but shake his head, sighing to himself, “I really do have ‘good luck’.”

Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!

He had just taken to sword control when he suddenly heard an unusual noise coming from the west.

Lu Qingshan’s face changed imdiately, and he looked toward the west.

There, a plu of black fog surged into the sky, eclipsing the sun and growing larger in his field of vision.

The black fog was condensed from Demonic Qi.

Within the black fog, there were thousands of ferocious and terrifying forms.

“This is the Demon Race army! The Demon Race army is probably about to attack Falling Goose Pass!”

In the direction Lu Qingshan was facing, a massive black fog had also appeared.

Without ti to think, Lu Qingshan quickly concealed himself and moved eastward, planning to take a detour.

Within monts, however, he stopped in his tracks, his heart dropping to an icy pit.

For to the east, the Demon Race army had also appeared.

The Demon Race forces on the eastern and western flanks were closing in rapidly.

“The battle is about to begin,” Lu Qingshan bit his teeth, finding the timing exceedingly unfortunate, “This is trouble.”

These Demon Race forces, having laid hidden outside of Falling Goose Pass for a long ti, were now preparing to launch an attack on the pass.

And his current location was precisely at the point of convergence of the Demon Race armies from east and west.

To the north, a vast and mighty Demon Race army had erged.

All three escape routes were blocked, and his only choice now was to imdiately retreat along the original path, heading due south.

Otherwise, in a mont’s ti, he would find himself surrounded by the Demon Race army.

He was but a Fifth Realm Sword Cultivator, no Sword Immortal, and if he were trapped among a Demon Race army of thousands, or even tens of thousands, not even nine lives would be enough for him to survive.

The problem was, if he chose to retreat now, the Demon Race army would converge ahead of him.

He, the Demon Race army, and Falling Goose Pass would beco aligned in a straight line.

The Demon Race army would be exactly at the midpoint.

Under such circumstances, he would have no way to deliver the ssage entrusted to him by the male cultivator to Marquis of An Hai at Falling Goose Pass before the Demon Race troops were at the gates.

And if the cultivators at Falling Goose Pass did not receive the ssage and retreat in ti, facing the Demon Race’s long-preditated, furious onslaught, they were surely dood—becoming nothing but bones.

Lu Qingshan’s eyes shifted indecisively, caught between a rock and a hard place.

Perhaps not between a rock and a hard place, as even if he remained without retreating, he had no way to break through the Demon Race encirclent and get the ssage out.

“Let’s go, young master,” Qin Yitian, who witnessed everything, was all too aware of the dilemma in Lu Qingshan’s heart. His gentle voice rose in Lu Qingshan’s mind, offering soft consolation, “This is not your fault in war, young master. There is no need for self-reproach.”

“This is war, where without boundless strength, the power of an individual here is like a tiny droplet of water, utterly voiceless,” Lu Qingshan said bitterly to Qin Yitian, “The so-called strongest Fourth Realm actually amounts to nothing in such a place.”
