Gunnar’s POV

The mont I heard the footsteps outside the room, I imdiately grabbed the waistband of my trousers and pulled them back up properly.

My chest still felt hot from the poison burning through my body, but right now that wasn’t what mattered.

Sumr stepped into the room slowly. The second I saw her, my eyes imdiately moved to my mother.

"Why did you bring her here?" I asked sharply.

Alia didn’t answer . Instead, she stepped aside quietly and let Sumr walk fully into the room.

The atmosphere changed imdiately.

Carian stood frozen near the door, staring at the little girl in complete shock. Her lips parted slightly and tears instantly gathered in her eyes.

"Sumr..." she whispered.

Sumr looked nervous standing there. Her small hands tightened around the fabric of her dress while her eyes slowly filled with tears too.

Then softly, almost like she had been holding the word inside herself for too long, she said-

"Mom."

The mont the word left her mouth, Carian completely broke.

A sob escaped her instantly as she rushed forward and dropped to her knees in front of Sumr. Her hands grabbed the little girl carefully like she was afraid she would disappear if she touched too hard.

"Oh my baby," Carian cried softly. "My sweet girl..."

Sumr imdiately hugged her tightly and started crying too.

I stayed silent on the bed watching both of them while my mother stood quietly beside the door.

Carian pulled back slightly and held Sumr’s face in her hands, staring at her like she couldn’t believe she was truly there.

"You’ve gotten so big," she whispered brokenly. "Look at you..."

Sumr wiped her eyes quickly.

"I missed you, Mom."

Carian smiled through her tears and kissed her forehead repeatedly.

"I...I.. missed you too." Her voice shook badly. "I missed you every single day."

Sumr hugged her again tightly while Carian held her close like she never wanted to let go.

Then slowly, Carian pulled back and smiled at her again.

"You’re not going to send Mommy away, right?"

Sumr went quiet imdiately.

Carian held her face gently and continued speaking softly.

"Mommy is doing this for us." Her eyes filled up again. "I’m trying to secure a future for us."

Sumr stared at her silently.

"You understand , don’t you?" Carian asked carefully. "Everything I’m doing is because I want to stay with you."

Sumr lowered her eyes for a few seconds before speaking quietly.

"Mom..."

Carian smiled weakly. "Yes, baby?"

"Do you rember when you told I was a special breed?"

Carian nodded slowly.

"You said I could do things other people can’t do."

A small frown appeared on Carian’s face now.

"You said not only do I have Alpha blood running through ..." Sumr continued quietly, "but I also co from Emberwyn bloodline, the strongest wizards to exist."

The mont she said that, Carian’s expression changed instantly.

"You said that made stronger than normal witches."

Carian’s eyes widened slowly.

Sumr continued carefully like she was repeating sothing she had practiced many tis in her head.

"You told Emberwyn bloodline witches could guide spirits back to where they belonged."

Tears gathered in Carian’s eyes imdiately.

"Sumr..."

"And you told that no matter how painful sothing is..." Sumr whispered, "I should always do what’s right."

Carian shook her head quickly before Sumr could continue.

"No."

Sumr looked at her sadly.

"No, baby," Carian said quickly while grabbing her hands tighter. "Don’t say that."

"You told that yourself, Mommy."

Carian’s breathing beca uneven. "I know what I said but this is different."

Sumr slowly shook her head. "No, it isn’t."

Carian stared at her in disbelief.

Sumr’s eyes filled with tears again but her voice stayed steady.

"I’m going to do what’s right."

Carian imdiately stood up from the floor. "No."

"You have to go back."

"No!" Carian shouted instantly.

Sumr flinched slightly but didn’t step back.

"You don’t understand," Carian said desperately. "I belong here with you, all of you."

Sumr looked heartbroken hearing that. "You don’t Mom."

Carian grabbed her shoulders quickly. "I’m your mother."

"I know."

"Then why are you doing this to ?"

Sumr’s lips trembled badly. "Because if you stay here, you’ll destroy everything."

Carian froze.

Sumr wiped her tears quickly before continuing.

"You taught spirits that stay too long around the living bring imbalance."

"Sumr stop-"

"You said it creates chaos."

Carian’s face tightened.

"You said the dead have no business remaining with the living."

"Enough!" Carian shouted.

Sumr’s body shook slightly from the force of her voice but she kept speaking anyway.

"You’re not supposed to still be here Mommy."

"I AM NOT DEAD!"

Carian’s scream filled the room so loudly that even I flinched slightly.

Tears poured down her face as she backed away from Sumr.

"I’m still here!" she cried. "I can touch you! I can speak! I can feel!"

Sumr started crying harder too."Mom..."

"I haven’t crossed over yet!"

Her chest rose heavily as panic spread across her face.

"I’m alive!"

Sumr shook her head slowly through tears. "You’re not."

Carian stared at her like she had just stabbed her.

"No," Sumr repeated again weakly. "You’re not."

The room beca completely silent after that.

Even my mother stopped moving.

Carian’s face slowly twisted with pain. "What did you say?"

Sumr cried harder now but forced herself to continue.

"You’re half dead Mom"

Carian stumbled back slightly.

"You’re just holding onto so feelings that doesn’t exist anymore."

"No..." Carian whispered.

"That’s why you haven’t ascended yet."

Carian stared at her daughter in complete disbelief.

Sumr wiped her face quickly while struggling to breathe properly through her tears.

"You’re stuck because you keep refusing to let go."

"No," Carian said again, shaking her head repeatedly now. "No, that’s not true."

"You’re trying to stay for Daddy," Sumr cried softly. "But you can’t."

Carian backed away another step.

"You belong sowhere else now."

The pain on her face beca impossible to ignore.

"No," she whispered again weakly.

Sumr looked completely broken too. "I love you, Mom."

Carian’s eyes locked desperately onto hers.

"But this isn’t right anymore."

Carian’s legs suddenly weakened slightly and she grabbed the edge of the door beside her to steady herself.

The room stayed silent except for the sound of both of them crying.

Then slowly, Carian lifted her eyes toward my mother.

"You told her all this?"

Alia crossed her arms quietly."I told her the truth."

Carian laughed bitterly through tears."The truth?"

She looked toward next."And you?"

I stayed silent for a few seconds before answering honestly.

"I didn’t know."

Carian looked hurt by that answer too.

Then her eyes returned to Sumr again.

"My baby..." she whispered brokenly.

Sumr looked at her with tears still rolling down her cheeks.

"You always told real love ans doing the right thing even when it hurts."

Carian’s face crumbled completely after hearing that.

And before anybody could say another word-

The candles inside the room suddenly went out all at once.
