CRACK-BOOM!
A bolt of blue lightning shot straight into the sky from the riverbank, startling nearby students and sending birds scattering in panic.
"Aaaaaah! That guy... that guy actually... actually..."
A voice mixed with sha and boundless rage escaped through Misaka Mikoto's gritted teeth. Her body crackled with uncontrollable electricity as she stomped her leather loafers hard on the grass, treating the innocent earth as a proxy for a certain boy's face.
"He... he kissed !"
The sensation still lingered on her cheek—a burning mix of shyness and fury.
'That bastard actually kissed my cheek! That guy...'
'No one, except my parents, has ever treated like that!'
'And he had the nerve to say, "That should make you rember ." What a despicable guy! So despicable!'
After venting for a full minute, she finally took a deep breath, forcing her heart rate to slow down.
She recalled the fight.
'My electricity had no effect on him. It was as if it vanished the mont it touched his skin. Even at 1 billion volts... his hair didn't even stand on end.'
'He has super speed, imnse physical strength, and complete immunity to electricity. What kind of ability is that?'
'And the worst part... I forgot to ask his na! Damn it!'
The image of his smiling face—right before he kissed her—flashed in her mind again.
"Next ti I see you, I'll make you pay! I'll fry you until you beg for rcy!"
Stomp. Stomp.
"Infuriating! Absolutely infuriating!"
"Onee-sama~?"
Just then, a high-pitched, cloying voice floated from the top of the riverbank.
Mikoto froze. A chill ran down her spine. Goosebumps erupted all over her arms.
'That voice...'
'Oh no. I was supposed to wait for Kuroko at the mall to buy underwear. But that bastard distracted with the Gekota Family set, so I missed the rendezvous...'
'Kuroko must have found out I wasn't there and teleported over.'
Although Shirai Kuroko had only been her roommate for a month, Mikoto already knew one universal truth: When Kuroko used that tone of voice, nothing good was about to happen.
"Onee-sama! I heard from my colleagues at Judgnt Branch 177 that there was a massive power surge here. Since you weren't at our eting spot, I assud you were in trouble!"
A girl with reddish-brown pigtails, wearing the sa Tokiwadai uniform as Mikoto, appeared at the top of the slope. She waved cheerfully, then—
Zip.
She vanished.
Zip.
In an instant, she reappeared right in front of Mikoto.
"Why did you suddenly appear?!" Mikoto yelped.
"Oh, Onee-sama!"
Kuroko lunged forward, clinging to Mikoto like a koala to a eucalyptus tree.
"I thought you stood up! I almost thought you didn't love anymore! Waaah...!"
Shirai Kuroko wrapped both arms around Mikoto's neck, burying her face in Mikoto's shoulder. She sobbed theatrically, putting on a performance worthy of an Oscar.
"Okay, okay! I was just held up by sothing! I'm sorry, Kuroko. Please get off !" Mikoto struggled, her face burning with embarrassnt. People were watching!
"No, no! Onee-sama... Kuroko is so sad... Waaah... Guh hehe..."
Mikoto couldn't see Kuroko's face, but she could hear the subtle shift in tone.
Kuroko's sobbing turned into a low, perverted giggle. A drop of drool trickled from the corner of her mouth as she inhaled deeply.
Sniff... Sniff...
"Ah... the scent of Onee-sama... intoxicating..."
Although she couldn't see it, Mikoto felt the shift in aura imdiately. Her cheeks, already red from the kiss, turned a darker shade of crimson—this ti from pure creeped-out rage.
Electric arcs sparked from her bangs. She grabbed the back of Kuroko's collar.
"Get... OFF!"
Yeet.
She threw Kuroko backward with practiced ease.
"Oof!"
Kuroko landed gracefully (mostly) on the grass.
"You better stop now, Kuroko! I can't take your perversion today!" Mikoto shouted, rubbing her arms to get rid of the feeling.
"Oh my, don't be so angry, Onee-sama. Getting angry causes wrinkles~" Kuroko said with a satisfied smile, dusting off her skirt.
"So..." Kuroko's expression shifted to professional curiosity. "Why did Onee-sama release such a high voltage just now? The power grid detected a massive spike. Were you fighting soone?"
"Well... no! It's nothing! Just an accident! A misfire!" Mikoto stamred, looking away guiltily. She scratched her cheek.
Kuroko narrowed her eyes. "Onee-sama... you can't keep doing this. Unauthorized use of abilities attracts attention from the Board of Directors. And you'll get punished by the Dorm Supervisor."
"You need to restrain yourself. Dealing with delinquents is Judgnt's job. When you intervene, it just creates more paperwork for us."
Kuroko sighed, rubbing her forehead. She knew Mikoto had probably gotten into another fight with Skill-Out.
"Well, there's nothing we can do about it! Judgnt always takes so long to arrive!" Mikoto quickly changed the subject. "Anyway! Aren't we going to the mall? Let's go!"
She ran over to where she had dropped her things, picking up her bag and the plastic box.
"Hey! Onee-sama?"
Kuroko blinked, teleporting to Mikoto's side. She stared at the clear plastic box in Mikoto's hands.
"You bought... more frog toys?"
She looked at the Gekota Family Set with disdain.
"Seriously, Onee-sama. What is the appeal of these childish things? As the Ace of Tokiwadai, you should have refined hobbies. Like flower arrangent, or violin, or..."
"You're so noisy! I hate the violin! I'd rather play video gas at the arcade than learn an instrunt!" Mikoto snapped defensively, hugging the box tighter.
"Playing gas..." Kuroko sighed, but a small, genuine smile touched her lips. "Well, that unconventional spirit is what makes Onee-sama... Onee-sama."
"What are you laughing at? Let's go, Kuroko."
Mikoto slung her bag over her shoulder and started walking up the slope.
She glanced down at the Gekota box in her hands.
Her mind drifted back to the boy with the sunny smile and the annoying confidence.
She gritted her teeth.
"Don't let run into you again," she whispered to herself. "If I do... I'll show you what a real Railgun looks like."
