This judgnt was very long; it took three minutes to read out completely. It included both criminal penalties and civil support rulings. Once the words were spoken, the entire courtroom fell silent again for a mont.
On the plaintiff’s side, Feng Cuihua’s body trembled, tears streaming down her aged face uncontrollably. After all... she had sent her own son to face judgnt. At this mont, her heart was filled with imnse regret. If only she had known it would co to this, she would have disciplined him more when he was young instead of doting on him blindly.
In the gallery, Zhang Qingyuan and the others were ecstatic, extrely satisfied with the outco.
"So gratifying! It’s like a blood pressure reducer—it brought my blood pressure right down!"
"I have a question. If they don’t provide companionship, would that be considered refusal to execute the judgnt? Could we sue them again for that?"
"I seem to rember Xiao Qin ntioning that if they commit a new cri during their probation period, don’t they have to go directly to jail?"
"I just love how they’d rather die than apologize!"
"..."
During the first half of the proceedings, they had been furious. Fortunately, the verdict brought them imnse relief. The part about providing companionship, in particular, caught the attention of several of the elderly attendees. Having spent so much ti with Qin Mu, they had absorbed a fair bit of legal knowledge by osmosis. Previously, ng Lei had been charged with a cri for refusing to comply with a court judgnt.
"That’s exactly right," Qin Mu, seated in a central position in the gallery, nodded. "Indeed, failure to comply would constitute a criminal offense."
During the probationary period, just three illegal acts or one criminal offense would be enough to send them to prison. Typically, a three-year prison sentence cos with a three-year probation. However, the court’s ruling this ti was for five years! This clearly indicated that the collegiate panel had extended the assessnt period for Jiang Daping and his three brothers. For five years, they would have to strictly adhere to the court’s judgnt. Any defiance would result in the execution of their actual prison sentences.
In the dock, Jiang Daping and his three brothers failed to grasp the severity of the situation. They all looked displeased with the judgnt.
Jiang Daping frowned. "I actually have to pay 900 yuan? 900 a month! What does an old woman need so much money for?"
Jiang Erping also clenched his teeth, sowhat resentful. "Just because my family is well-off, I should pay more? Why should I have to pay 1,000? This isn’t fair!"
Jiang Sanping, looking at the verdict handed to him, was also dissatisfied. He muttered worriedly, "750 a month... that’s almost 10,000 a year..."
Jiang Siping’s brows were tightly furrowed as he said indignantly, "Just because I’m a teacher, I should pay more? What kind of logic is that?"
Their reactions were the complete opposite of Zhang Qingyuan and the others. The four brothers were extrely dissatisfied with the verdict. The part they were most dissatisfied with wasn’t the criminal sentence but the civil support judgnt. They automatically ignored the requirents in the judgnt, such as providing companionship. What concerned them was that the support paynts required of them were different; they all felt this was unfair.
But none of them were considering an appeal or a second trial. After all, this case had been so troubleso for so long, and now it was finally resolved. This was especially true for Jiang Siping. Although he would have to spend an extra 1,000 yuan a month, the ordeal was finally over. If they appealed, who knew what new problems might arise.
"Actually, I wouldn’t advise you to appeal," the lawyer beside Jiang Daping said earnestly. "This judgnt is quite reasonable, all things considered. However, there are a few things to be mindful of during the probation period."
The lawyer then listed several precautions for Jiang Daping, such as not breaking the law, not committing any further cris, and the necessity of reporting to the local community authorities.
"Don’t worry, I’m not an idiot. There’s no way I’ll break the law again, let alone commit another cri," Jiang Daping replied after listening.
