Even an outsider could tell. The jury system is too superficial, a typical example of formalism. Letting a group of people, most with low levels of education and no exposure to legal knowledge, judge others... It’s touted as granting citizens the power of judgnt. In reality, it’s unfair to both parties involved.

He had always felt that professional matters should be handled by professionals.

This kind of thing... feels a bit like ddling in affairs that are none of one’s business.

anwhile, at the lawyers’ bench, Qin Mu watched this scene and deeply shared the sentint. This was his first trial with a jury, and he too felt the system was imperfect. Despite continuous attempts abroad to compensate and balance it, nurous loopholes remained. However, the system did have one advantage. When faced with cases that morals and human feelings could accept but the law could not tolerate, the jury could transcend the law to deliver a verdict that society at large could generally accept—for example, in certain cases of insulting a mother, or revenge.

BANG—

「In the courtroom,」

Old Judge Anthony, after imparting "legal knowledge," continued to preside. "Next, Plaintiff, please provide the corresponding evidence for the claims you have just made."

This was a civil litigation case. Either party had the right and obligation to provide evidence for their claims. The court did not intervene in any matters related to evidence. The parties had to gather their evidence on their own, as long as it was reasonable and lawful. What they had to do was to judge and reconstruct the facts based on this evidence and deliver an impartial judgnt.

At the sa ti, on the plaintiff’s side, George stood up, took out a piece of evidence, and submitted it to the clerk. He announced loudly, "Your Honor, this is the notarized authentication certificate of the handwriting analysis we conducted on the donation agreent. It proves that the handwriting is indeed that of Zhang Qingyuan and Feng Cuihua, without any signs of coercion. This fact alone proves that the other party willingly and voluntarily signed the agreent at the ti."

At this point, he paused for a mont, casting a glance at Qin Mu. Finding Qin Mu calm as usual, he took a deep breath and presented another piece of evidence. "Here is a report on Zhang Qingyuan that we had soone search for in his ho country. It states that Zhang Qingyuan once pretended to be a gang boss over a phone call, speaking in an extrely vicious tone. This clearly indicates that Zhang Qingyuan is not the honest and upright old man he claims to be; he has a history of lying and fraud."

Moving on, he took out another piece of evidence and handed it to the clerk. "This here is a detailed statent of the donations and paynts made by the other elderly mbers of the Red Sunset Travel Group. Over twenty other people have paid, yet only Zhang Qingyuan and Feng Cuihua did not! I would like to ask, if we coerced them into signing, why did everyone else pay? Are they all fools? Or are only Zhang Qingyuan and Feng Cuihua the clever ones?" He gestured towards another docunt. "And here..." Without elaborating further on that specific item, he concluded, "Given all the evidence presented, we have reason to believe that the defendants, Zhang Qingyuan and Feng Cuihua, themselves are not very trustworthy. This explains why they went back on their word, signing the agreent but then refusing to donate!"

George tossed out several pieces of evidence in succession, targeting Zhang Qingyuan and Feng Cuihua from every angle. He even used news materials gathered dostically by Xu Liming as a basis. These materials, all found in the dia, weren’t obtained illegally and thus could serve as evidence to support certain judgnts—for example, to question Zhang Qingyuan’s past conduct and character.

Generally speaking, a person of bad character is more likely to renege on a donation. Information about Zhang Qingyuan could only be sought from news reports in his ho country. Though potentially one-sided, these reports held at least so referential value.

As long as it convinces the judge or the jurors, or sways them towards his side, then his goal would be achieved!

The balance of the situation was shifting bit by bit until it completely tipped in their favor!
