Aurelia rubbed her reddened wrist. She was stunned when she heard those words and looked up at Anna.
Anna thought she was scared and curled her lips in a smug smile.
"As long as you kneel down and apologize to , and tell how you t Charles, I’ll let go of what just happened. Otherwise, you can wait for your family to go bankrupt."
"Heh~" Aurelia’s thin lips curved in a slight smile. "The Shaw Family is tied to certain financial chains in Q City. It’s not like a mayor’s daughter can just bankrupt us with a word."
"If you’re dumb, you should study more. Don’t parade your ignorance around and embarrass your dad."
"You!" Anna’s face flushed with anger.
"Miss," Claire Reed stepped in. "My sister might have been a bit rude, but the things you said aren’t what a real lady would say either." Seeing her sister bullied, of course Claire wouldn’t just sit back and watch.
They say that barking dogs don’t bite.
"Who are you calling ’Miss’?" Aurelia snapped.
"I..." Claire was at a loss for words, blocked by Aurelia’s retort.
Aurelia gave a cold laugh. "So you know you two are out of line? Why should I be polite to soone rude? Everyone in Q City knows Aurelia Shaw has always been spoiled, lacking in manners, and yet you’re preaching to about how to be a lady? Don’t tell stupidity is contagious?"
Aurelia cocked her head, her stunning face showing confusion.
She’d spent so much ti with Mason Nightshade, she was getting pretty sharp-tongued herself.
"You..." Claire was fuming now.
When had anyone ever dared talk back to her like this?
Claire couldn’t be bothered to keep up her prim facade. Her eyes narrowed coldly. "Aurelia, you’re enjoying yourself now, but I promise you’ll regret it after today!"
With that, Claire dragged Anna away.
Just what the hell did those two co here for?
Just to pick a fight with her, throw so threats, and then walk away?
Surely they can’t really be crazy?
"Dealing with people like that, there’s no need to be polite." A deep, icy voice suddenly sounded.
Mason Nightshade?
She almost forgot she was still on a video call with him.
Seeing the man’s handso face on the screen, his usual indifference replaced with a dark cloud, his eyes sharp with a murderous glint and chills lurking within.
Aurelia raised her eyebrow. She was the one getting picked on—what was he angry for?
"I didn’t know the mayor’s power had gotten this impressive," Mason sneered coldly.
When Aurelia heard this, the worry inside her eased a bit. "What if they really go after the Shaw Family?"
Mason was surprised she would say that. "You’re scared?"
This wasn’t like her at all.
"Commoners can’t fight officials—that’s universally true. The Shaw Clan Corporation has deep roots in Q City, but the main economic power in Q City is still in governnt hands. If they really wanted to take us down, it’s not like it’s impossible."
Besides, the mayor has long wanted to control all of Q City’s economy. If it weren’t for Mason sitting atop the business world, he wouldn’t have hesitated to strike already.
To him, the Shaw Family was a thorn in his side. If he could get rid of us for a reason like this, all the better.
"Look at !" Mason said in a low voice, eyes deep. If she could think this through, of course he’d considered all these things too.
But he didn’t want her to worry so much.
Once soone thinks too much, worries too much, they beco afraid—and once you’re scared, you won’t be as free and self-assured as you are right now.
He didn’t want her to bear all this on her own shoulders.
"Aurelia, if the sky falls, I’ll hold it up for you. The man you’ll have in the future—his strength and background are far beyond what you can imagine, okay?"
