"Aurelia, you're awake! Does it still hurt? Is there anywhere uncomfortable? Are you thirsty? Hungry?"
Mason Nightshade asked a barrage of questions, reaching out to her, but—
"Snap"
A crisp sound.
Aurelia Shaw slapped his hand away.
Mason Nightshade was stunned, suddenly recalling that she had just woken up and might not have recovered from the fear of being injured.
His voice softened, gently coaxing, "Aurelia, don't be afraid, it's all over now. That person has been dealt with."
"Dealt with?" Such icy words spilled from Aurelia's lips with a faint, elusive smile.
Mason Nightshade suddenly sensed sothing different about Aurelia now that she'd awakened, as if a thin, yet palpable, invisible barrier existed between them.
She seed colder towards him,
perhaps due to the shock?
Mason Nightshade's eyes revealed a hint of distress; he bent over, gazing into her eyes, his deep gaze filled with unmistakable tenderness.
His voice was softer and more patient than ever, "Aurelia, we're in the hospital, the bad person has been caught, there's no need to be afraid anymore, okay?"
"Do you recognize who I am?"
Was he treating her like a child, trying to appease her?
Aurelia's eyes narrowed.
The text ssage she saw on his phone flashed unexpectedly in her mind again, her brows subtly furrowing as her voice turned abruptly cold.
"That person was just a lackey; what good does it do to deal with him? Deal with one, and there will be a second, third, fourth... You of all people should understand, you must root out the grass."
Mason Nightshade's face stiffened, "Do you bla for elevating Eleanor Spencer so high?"
"I've explained this before; one day she will fall hard. If you're unhappy, I can deal with her right now, okay?"
"As long as you don't get upset."
"Don't be angry, okay? Aurelia?"
Mason Nightshade begged like a dog asking its owner for forgiveness.
The fingers beneath Aurelia's blanket twitched slightly, yet she clenched them tightly into a ball.
This was the answer she wanted, but Mason spoke so decisively, so easily, it was chilling.
He didn't like Eleanor Spencer, but she was at least his childhood friend, soone he grew up with; even after years of nurturing a pet, emotional bonds would form.
Yet dealing with soone, he spoke of it so casually.
Would one day he deal with her in the sa way?
Deal with the Shaw Family?
Deal with her father?
She had not shared twenty-so years of history with him like Eleanor Spencer had.
Moreover, such actions were not unheard of for Mason Nightshade.
Aurelia's blood ran cold, her gaze growing colder.
How sensitive was Mason Nightshade? He imdiately noticed the change in her expression.
His heart twisted tightly, beating faster with nervousness.
Was she angry? Would she not forgive him?
His long fingers trembled slightly, in the next instant clenching into a fist, his gaze darkening.
"You've just woken up; make sure to rest and not worry about other things."
Mason Nightshade tucked the blanket around Aurelia.
Aurelia furrowed her brow, sensing sothing amiss.
Suddenly, she thought of sothing, abruptly sitting up on the bed, ready to get off and put on her shoes.
Mason Nightshade's brow furrowed deeply, his pupils shrinking as he grabbed Aurelia's wrist, trying to restrain her, pressing her back onto the bed.
"Aurelia!"
His voice oozed anger, but was controlled with restraint.
What was she doing!
Did she not know she was just injured, had just undergone surgery, and had been unconscious in bed for an entire day, yet she's doing sothing to hurt herself now!
