Mason Nightshade let go of Aurelia, the darkness still lingering in his eyes. But he picked her up, straightened her clothes for her, and only after he helped her tidy up did he lower his head to fix his own.
Seeing the cat-like scratch marks on his chest, he raised an eyebrow and glanced at Aurelia.
Aurelia pressed her lips together in a soft smile, as if she hadn't been the mischief-maker. "Don't look at like that. Didn't you deliberately leave marks on too? I don't even know how I'm supposed to film tomorrow."
"Take tomorrow off. Film the day after," Mason replied in a calm voice.
Aurelia raised her brows in surprise, "You're worried soone will see?"
Mason looked at her intently, his gaze earnest. "I don't want you to be misunderstood."
So that's why he stopped?
"Sigh." Mason breathed out softly, drew her into his arms, held her close. "Don't want to get remarried to ?"
Mason didn't wait for her answer.
"Until you feel ready to make our reconciliation public, I don't want anyone saying anything about you. I know you're headstrong, that you never care about what anyone else thinks when it's sothing you want or love, but just because you don't care doesn't an society will let you off that easily. Aurelia, I want to give you the best of everything, is that okay?"
"I won't force you to go public with our relationship, and I won't ask you to imdiately remarry . I'm willing to wait for you. Whenever you're ready, marry then. It won't be too late."
Aurelia gazed at Mason seriously. "Is that really what you think?"
"Mm." Mason nodded.
Aurelia thought for a mont, then still said, "Mason, I have to clarify sothing. It's not that I haven't accepted you, it's just..."
She paused. "I need ti. There are a lot of things I need to process and slowly co to terms with."
She couldn't tell him about being reborn, but the gap between them wasn't sothing that could close in a short while. At this mont, she couldn't completely let him into her heart, but she didn't want him to misunderstand her either.
"I know." Mason took her small hand, warming it in his palm, rubbing it gently. They say people with cold hands aren't loved—how was it that, with the heat on in the car, her hands were still so cold? "Aurelia, I'm willing to wait for you, okay? No matter how long it takes, it's fine. Don't feel any pressure. I don't ask for much, just that you're by my side. As for marriage, we'll talk about it when you're ready."
Aurelia was moved, just a little, in her heart. She leaned over and kissed him lightly on the lips, a dazzling, unrestrained smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Thank you, Mason."
Mason's expression went dark. "You're not allowed to smile like that at other n in the future!"
Honestly, couldn't this girl be just a little more reserved? Didn't she know how alluring she looked right now!
Everyone else was scared when Mason got mad, but Aurelia wasn't. She pinched his chin and grinned up at him. "Jealous?"
Mason took a bite, gently nipping her finger. In the instant he bit down, they both froze for a mont.
They'd done even more intimate things, so why did sothing like this suddenly feel so shy? A strange, wonderful feeling lingered between the two of them.
Aurelia tried to pull her hand back, but Mason bit down a little harder on her fingertip. "Did you hear ?"
"Got it," Aurelia answered with a laugh. "If you really can't rest easy, just co with then."
If he could, he'd definitely follow her over. It's just that he still had things to deal with in Q City.
The airport arrived.
Aurelia got out of the car, looked back at Mason inside, "You don't need to get out. There are always reporters lurking here for candid shots. While I'm gone, eat properly and take care of yourself."
