Eliza Fletcher woke up in a daze, her eyes opening to find a man's face inches away. Startled, she scread, pushed Dylan Harper away, and hid in the corner.
Dylan Harper touched his face, feeling secretly hurt: Am I really that scary? It hurts my self-esteem.
But, looking at it from another angle, does this count as so kind of intimidation?
Like Mason Nightshade, who can intimidate enemies without speaking, just with a look.
Okay, maybe he was overthinking it...
"Sis-in-law." He looked at Aurelia Shaw for help.
Aurelia Shaw had already co over, crouching in front of Eliza Fletcher, waving her hand in front of her, "Eliza Fletcher? Do you recognize ?"
Eliza blinked, her terrified eyes gradually clearing. Seeing Aurelia's face, her nose tinged with sadness, her eyes welled up with tears, and she burst into tears.
"Wah... Aurelia, Aurelia..."
She hugged Aurelia so tightly that Aurelia found it difficult to breathe. Her hand froze in mid-air for a mont before awkwardly patting Eliza's back, gently comforting her, "It's okay now, we've rescued you. Don't worry."
"Mm." Eliza nodded in her embrace but continued to cry uncontrollably.
Aurelia helplessly patted her back again.
Perhaps noticing Aurelia's lack of skill, Mason Nightshade pulled her away from Eliza's embrace and looked at Eliza, "Can you stand up by yourself?"
His tone was gentle and concerned, but Eliza felt a chill run through her, shivering as she staggered to her feet.
Dylan Harper sensibly went over to support her and noticed that this ti she didn't shy away. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief; it seed his appearance wasn't the problem after all.
"Let's go back first," Mason Nightshade said.
Aurelia Shaw nodded.
This place indeed wasn't safe to stay in for long. The rain outside was getting heavier, and staying here longer could be dangerous when they returned.
Aurelia took Eliza Fletcher directly to the hospital. The examination showed no issues, just a bit of shock. She let out a breath and frowned, "Do you know who kidnapped you?"
Eliza shook her head, "I don't know..." Suddenly, she paused, her eyes dimming as if rembering sothing sad, and she laughed mockingly, "I might know who it is."
Aurelia was taken aback and, seeing the expression on her face, guessed who it might be.
She had once made that sa expression.
When she first learned that Eleanor Spencer had betrayed her, everything she had gone through was orchestrated by Eleanor Spencer. At that mont, she too couldn't believe it, couldn't believe that her best friend, the person she trusted the most, would stab her in the back.
But the truth proved that trust is like a thin layer of paper, obscuring your vision, blurring the true intentions of others, allowing them to stab you straight in the heart—fatal—without giving you a mont to react.
"Get so rest," Aurelia didn't continue to press the issue.
Eliza closed her eyes, not wanting to bring up those terrifying mories anymore. Her voice carried a hint of trembling, "Aurelia, why are people so frightening?"
Aurelia was taken aback and laughed sardonically, "Haven't you realized already? It's better to adapt to this sooner. You'll face things scarier than this in the future."
Eliza stiffened for a mont and then laughed bitterly. Yes, she had known all along. She had once used the dark side of human nature against Aurelia, but who would have thought she would fall harder, encountering soone even better at manipulating hearts?
