She'd always been arrogant, always looking down on these low-level staff; now, worried sick about her daughter, her mouth ran before her brain, and what she was thinking just tumbled out.
Everyone in the police station looked displeased; they all knew about certain unspoken rules in the precinct and usually just endured it, but now, when this group ought to be begging them for help, they still swaggered in, acting high and mighty. Instantly, everyone's resentnt flared.
