Bai Wanqi agreed. Originally, Ren Feng thought that this matter had lost hope, but unexpectedly, it was agreed upon.
He felt imnsely happy inside.
Walking out of the room, strolling on the roads of the Southwest Military Region, he felt as if even the air was different.
Finally resolving this matter, getting Mr. Bai to agree was really no small feat.
When he ets Bai Xiaoyue later, there should be no obstacles.
As he hesitated whether to see Bai Xiaoyue at noon, suddenly, two figures walked toward Ren Feng from the front.
Looking up, it turned out to be two n in military uniforms.
"General Xiong requests your presence."
Ren Feng raised an eyebrow. Xiong Hao wanted to see him?
"Sure."
The two soldiers led the way ahead, taking him directly to a nearby mountain. Overlooking everything, there was a pavilion, surrounded by several soldiers, while Xiong Hao was sitting inside.
Ren Feng reached the pavilion, and the two soldiers stepped aside. He noticed that Xiong Hao had a chessboard on the table.
"Have a seat."
Xiong Hao looked up at Ren Feng.
Ren Feng sat down.
"Do you play?"
"A bit."
"Then let's have a ga."
Xiong Hao suggested.
The two began to play chess. Xiong Hao's moves were sharp and fast; in no ti, his pawns crossed the river, the cannons were ready, and both the chariots and knights were in play.
In contrast, Ren Feng's moves leaned towards defense, but Xiong Hao's every step was predictable to him.
"My father loves chess. He said that to be a good general commander, one must learn to control the whole situation, much like chess. Knowing when to sacrifice a pawn and what strategy to take is how you win a ga."
As he finished speaking, Xiong Hao used a chariot to take Ren Feng's knight, but with a counter-move, Ren Feng used a cannon to take his chariot.
"I think so too," Ren Feng said.
"The Xiong Family and the Bai Family are prestigious. Xiaoyue and I grew up together as childhood sweethearts. I always thought that Xiaoyue and I should be together, but I didn't expect soone like you to appear out of nowhere."
Xiong Hao used a cannon to capture Ren Feng's bishop, to which Ren Feng countered by capturing one of Xiong Hao's knights.
"I stubbornly believed that my feelings for Xiaoyue could not be matched by anyone, so I was always angry, seeing you as a thief. Without you, Xiaoyue and I would happily be together."
Xiong Hao, however, was not playing chess; he was engaging in an all-out confrontation, losing more than half of his pieces in a short ti.
"I've only known Xiaoyue for a few months," Ren Feng said. "But there's sothing wonderful about affection. I never expected Xiaoyue to fall in love with ."
"I know — that's the wonder of love. Sotis, the person you love doesn't love you back; giving doesn't necessarily result in rewards. Like this chess move, I hoped to capture your chariot, knowing well it could end up costing instead."
Ren Feng shook his head. He took one of Xiong Hao's pawns, while his pieces advanced significantly on the opponent's side.
"I used to follow my father's guidance blindly — whatever he said, I did, even in love. Later, I realized love doesn't work with the expectation of returns."
Ren Feng nodded: "I also think that only mutual attraction makes real love."
Xiong Hao pushed his remaining cannon to Ren Feng's corner: "Before confronting you, I thought I was very capable; at a young age, I beca a major general, holding significant power in the Southwest Military Region. But I've realized, I'm not as good as you."
Ren Feng pushed a pawn forward and looked up: "Why?"
"There are big differences between us. You are braver. With the Japanese Shrine incident, I didn't have the courage to act, but you did."
Ren Feng shook his head: "That doesn't an I'm better. I had confidence that I could escape after bombing the shrine. Your strength lies not in individual combat but in leadership and command."
"True, but no matter how you look at it, in pursuing Xiaoyue, I'm not as good as you."
Ren Feng pushed the chariot forward decisively, putting Xiong Hao in check.
"That's not true. You also put in effort, and there's no question of who is better. In the end, it depends on Xiaoyue's choice."
Xiong Hao nodded, looking at the chessboard where he was now clearly at a disadvantage.
He moved his general up, but Ren Feng imdiately captured his advisor.
"I've lost."
Xiong Hao glanced at the board, his expression surprisingly serene.
"I hope you'll treat Xiaoyue well and give her happiness. Let this be the end of what was between us."
"Alright."
Ren Feng watched as Xiong Hao got up and walked down the mountain, letting out a sigh.
Although Xiong Hao opposed him initially, it was understandable. The calm he showed now indicated he was an outstanding man.
A person like him deserves respect.
Standing on the mountaintop, the wind roared around him. It was already late December, about to be January, and the weather in Huaxia was extrely cold at this ti.
Various thoughts flashed through Ren Feng's mind. With the New Year approaching, perhaps it was ti to go back and spend ti with them.
But before that, while there was still ti, there was another matter to attend to.
Before, while helping Eleven kill Tang Dieyi, he learned about Eleven's background being connected to the Tang Sect, which wasn't far from the Tianfu. After leaving the Southwest Military Region, Ren Feng intended to visit.
After dealing with this, it would be close to the New Year, and Ren Feng planned to spend more ti with Xia Wenxue and the others.
Sorting out his thoughts, Ren Feng headed down the mountain. Just as he got down, a guard ca running.
He explained that Bai Baichuan invited him for lunch.
Ren Feng nodded, and the guard left.
He checked the ti — it was still early. When going to lunch later, he'd have to bring sothing; he couldn't go empty-handed.
Thinking this way, Ren Feng left the Southwest Military Region, went to the city to buy so gifts, and by the ti he returned, it was close to noon.
Then, Ren Feng headed towards Bai Xiaoyue's house.
As he reached the door, he saw Bai Xiaoyue standing there, looking slightly anxious while waiting.
"Feng."
Seeing Ren Feng arriving, Bai Xiaoyue imdiately ca forward.
"Why did you bring so many things?"
"It's my first official visit — I couldn't co empty-handed, right?" Ren Feng said with a smile. "Don't worry, it's just so small gifts, nothing valuable. By the way, did your dad give you a hard ti?"
"No, although I was a bit scared initially. My dad just said a few words and didn't say anything else," Bai Xiaoyue said with a smile, her face beaming with joy.
