The interrogation was conducted at the city hall, with Ding Fan, Hu Jin, Fang Ruohan, and Huang Can sitting side by side behind a long table.
"You'd better let us go, or you'll be in big trouble."
Five n had just been brought in. One tall man spoke in Huaxia to Ding Fan.
Ding Fan was genuinely speechless. These people were truly arrogant. Even after being caught, instead of showing fear, they had the audacity to spew nonsense.
"Who are you, and what are you here for?" Ding Fan asked calmly.
The five n showed no signs of panic; they appeared as if visiting casually instead of being interrogated.
"You'd better not know who we are. Otherwise, you'll regret it when the ti cos. Right now, letting us go is your best choice," the tall man said, still acting superior.
"Outrageous!" Huang Can shouted angrily from the side.
If Ding Fan hadn't been present, Huang Can would have gone over and twisted their heads off.
The five n still showed no fear; they didn't seem to care about Huang Can's attitude.
"It seems you truly aren't afraid of death," Ding Fan murmured quietly.
"Death? Do you think you'd dare?" The tall man sneered. "I can tell you, soone warned us before we ca here. If anything happens to us, your Yongfan Island will be leveled to the ground."
"Huang Can, give a gun," Ding Fan said calmly to Huang Can beside him.
Huang Can imdiately unholstered his gun and handed it to Ding Fan.
Without hesitation, Ding Fan raised his hand and fired directly.
As the gunshot echoed, the tall man let out a loud scream and collapsed heavily onto the ground.
When his companions turned to look, they saw that the man's forehead had been pierced by a bullet. He was unquestionably dead.
"From now on, if you don't answer my questions, I will shoot imdiately," Ding Fan stated flatly.
The remaining four n exchanged glances.
They had believed in the strength of the organization backing them, which had given them the boldness to act recklessly. Even in captivity, they had maintained their arrogance.
But they hadn't expected Ding Fan to be so decisive. He acted without hesitation, killing their leader with a single shot.
"Who are you?" Ding Fan asked again, casually fiddling with the gun.
"We're soldiers from Vietnam's special forces." This ti, they responded swiftly and honestly.
It was clear that Ding Fan wasn't joking. He was the kind of person who carried out what he said, and continuing to act arrogant in front of soone like him would only lead to death.
Hu Jin furrowed her brow after Ding Fan had killed soone directly earlier. She found his actions exceptionally ruthless.
Unlike the others, Hu Jin ca from a peaceful holand and wasn't used to such slaughter.
However, after witnessing how the n began to behave themselves and answer questions properly once Ding Fan shot soone, Hu Jin began to think that dealing with such unreasonable people might require Ding Fan's thods.
Vietnase soldiers?
Upon hearing those words, everyone exchanged looks.
Ding Fan slightly furrowed his brows as well.
Vietnam's warships had previously interfered with Huaxia Country's cargo ships. If Ding Fan hadn't sunk one of Vietnam's largest destroyers at the ti, construction of Yongfan Island might have co to a halt.
This ti, Vietnam had gone even further, sending special forces to blow up their power plant.
"What was your purpose in coming here?" Ding Fan continued to ask.
Since they'd begun answering his questions, one of the n spoke without hesitation. "We were sent to sabotage your infrastructure and then use the excuse of protecting expatriates to launch an invasion of Yongfan Island."
Everyone present, except Ding Fan, turned pale at the revelation.
Vietnam was a regional military power. Its history of founding was built upon defeating Fass Nation and later triumphing over the Stars and Stripes Country.
In Yahuan State, Vietnam's military ranked among the top five.
For Yongfan Island, Vietnam posed a formidable threat. None of the people there believed they could possibly defeat such a force.
"I'll leave the rest of the interrogation to Huang Can," Ding Fan said, gesturing towards Huang Can.
Ding Fan only needed to know who they were and their purpose for coming. Details could be left to Huang Can to handle.
With that, Ding Fan stood up and walked out.
After Ding Fan left, Huang Can and the others resud the interrogation.
Outside the city hall, Ding Fan began contemplating how to resolve the current crisis.
From a military standpoint, Yongfan Island was vastly inferior to Vietnam. In direct confrontation, they'd only end up being devoured.
Ding Fan recalled a conversation he had in Dancheng with Old Master Qin about Yongfan Island's future.
Vietnam wasn't the only country eyeing Yongfan Island; Myanmar and India were also watching closely.
These countries hadn't taken action yet, not because Yongfan Island was intimidating or mysterious, but because they were restraining one another, each wary of triggering a chain reaction that might destabilize the region.
Now, Vietnam had lost its patience and intended to strike first. Based on the prisoners' statents, they planned to launch a blitzkrieg.
Using the pretext of protecting expatriates, Vietnam would swiftly send troops to seize the island, ensuring control before other parties could react.
Ding Fan returned to his room, sat cross-legged, and began his breathing exercise.
He was waiting for Huang Can's final interrogation results before discussing the next steps.
After roughly an hour, Huang Can arrived.
"General Ding, we've completed interrogating them. Their mission today was to carry out the bombing and signal Vietnam's troops to invade Yongfan Island," Huang Can reported tensely. "General Ding, I've learned that Vietnam has made significant preparations. They've deployed three destroyers and over two divisions with more than ten thousand troops."
"Did they say where these forces are stationed?" Ding Fan asked.
From Huang Can's account, Ding Fan could confirm Vietnam's intention to launch a lightning-fast assault. Their troops were undoubtedly ready.
"At Snakehead Tail. As soon as there's a signal of an explosion here, they'll imdiately set sail and attack," Huang Can said.
"Understood. Leave the rest to ," Ding Fan said.
"But…" Huang Can hesitated. He knew what Ding Fan was capable of; in the past, Ding Fan single-handedly forced a local Tusi to surrender.
But this situation was different. Their opponents had two divisions with ten thousand soldiers and three destroyers. Huang Can couldn't fathom how Ding Fan, alone, could stop such an overwhelming force.
Huang Can's words hadn't finished when Ding Fan interrupted him. "Your job now is to strengthen coastal patrols and ensure no outsiders land on the island."
"Yes!" Seeing Ding Fan's determination, Huang Can saluted and left.
After Huang Can left, Ding Fan stood before a map of Yahuan State hanging on the wall. He quickly located Snakehead Tail on the map.
"Looks like the best approach is to deal with them first..."...
...
Next morning.
At dawn, three massive destroyers had already arrived around Yongfan Island.
Panic spread across Yongfan Island. Facing modern warships, they had little to defend themselves with besides two M2 heavy tanks, which might slow the enemy's approach to the shore but were ineffective against the destroyers.
Given their interrogation of the Vietnase prisoners the previous night, Hu Jin and the others had expected Vietnam to make a move, so they weren't too shocked.
What puzzled them, however, was Ding Fan's disappearance. Despite combing the island, they couldn't find him anywhere.
"Huang Can, when was the last ti you saw Ding Fan?" Hu Jin asked with evident irritation, openly calling him by na out of frustration.
Knowing full well Vietnam's warships were advancing, Ding Fan had chosen to vanish.
"Vice City Lord, my last encounter with General Ding was yesterday evening after I reported the situation. He said he would handle the rest himself," Huang Can answered truthfully.
In Yongfan Island's administrative hierarchy, Hu Jin was second only to Ding Fan, so Huang Can could only speak honestly.
"Handle it himself? How exactly is he planning to handle this?" Hu Jin sighed deeply.
The enemy's warships had arrived. What solution could there possibly be?
Just as Hu Jin fud with frustration, a soldier rushed in frantically.
"Commander, the… the Vietnase warships…"
The soldier was panting heavily and initially struggled to speak.
"What about the Vietnase warships?" Huang Can asked irritably.
Hu Jin also turned her gaze toward the soldier.
After calming his breathing, the soldier continued. "The warships—they've all retreated. The Vietnase warships have retreated."
"What?" Hu Jin exclaid in disbelief.
The enemy had been fully prepared to attack Yongfan Island. Now, suddenly, they had opted to retreat?
Huang Can was equally bewildered.
After a mont of reflection, though, Huang Can seed to understand. "This must be General Ding's doing. It must be General Ding!"
Ding Fan?
Hu Jin stood there in stunned silence.
Could it be that the current crisis had truly been resolved by Ding Fan?
"Let's go take a look," Huang Can suggested.
Hu Jin didn't object. The two quickly hopped into a vehicle and headed to the port.
It didn't take long for them to arrive at the harbor, where the sea was calm. There were no signs of Vietnase warships anywhere.
"The Vietnase have really left..."
