Chapter 1165: Chapter 6: Scumbag!
During this same period of time… at least, during the time Boss Luo was moving around on Mount Tai, what had happened in another space-time was slowly unfolding, little by little, through the maid’s narration.
After quite a while, You Ye finally closed the ledger in her hands.
“Master, that’s everything that happened.” After closing the ledger, the maid took the opportunity to replace the now-cold tea.
“That so‑called giant automaton that appeared in Heaven should be the bat automaton that went missing from the Penglai Treasury, right?” Luo Qiu said suddenly.
The maid nodded. “It should be. Back then Tai Yinzi accidentally triggered some of its functions, which is probably why it teleported away. But Tai Yinzi never mentioned this, so I suppose he thought Master didn’t know about it.”
“This automaton has the ability to transfer itself. Originally I wanted to see where it would transfer to, whether it might bring something back for me… I didn’t expect the destination to be Heaven, though. That’s a bit surprising.” Luo Qiu smiled.
“It might be some kind of random teleportation,” the maid said thoughtfully. “Or perhaps during its transfer process, it was interfered with by something. A Transcendent interfering with Heaven is in itself an abnormal method of spatial interference; if it happened at the same time, it’s not impossible. It’s just that, to verify whether that’s correct, we would probably have to go to Heaven personally to investigate.”
Of course, buying information from the altar would be even more straightforward—basically, as long as you keep buying, there’s almost nothing you can’t do, right?
“No need.” Luo Qiu shook his head. “Whatever the reason, knowing the result this time is enough… Heaven wasn’t actually destroyed, so it doesn’t count as violating the Contract. As for what Transcendents and Heaven are planning between themselves, I’m not interested for the moment. I’m not tired of staying here yet. But…”
Luo Qiu suddenly looked up at the maid in front of him, gazing into her deep blue eyes, and said softly, “If you want to go, you can go take a look.”
The maid merely said softly, “As long as I can stay by Master’s side, I don’t want to go anywhere.”
Luo Qiu smiled faintly. “It won’t be long before I should be starting school… I’m not familiar with things over there. See if you can find a good place and move the shop there.”
“You Ye has already scouted several places, Master. Do you want to look at them now?”
“You decide.” Luo Qiu stood up. “Pack things up here. I’ll go check on Luo Ya.”
…
…
Luo Ya came back to her senses on the same day they returned.
The Luo Ya who woke up was no different from how she had been before she fainted: still very shy around strangers, but also very obedient to Luo Qiu’s words.
While Luo Ya was unconscious, with Luo Qiu’s permission, You Ye had done a detailed examination of Luo Ya’s body, and the conclusion she reached was that Luo Ya was not entirely posed of Wansu.
Luo Ya’s body was quite special. Part of her body was made of Wansu, but another part was ordinary biological tissue, and at the same time, there was also a portion of Heteromorphic Origin. In addition, there was a ponent that made up less than one percent of her overall material that even You Ye could not identify.
But regardless of how special Luo Ya’s body structure might be, one thing could be confirmed—that was, Luo Ya had been manufactured.
…
When he pushed open the door, the slender girl was sitting in front of the dressing table, expression empty, staring at the mirror without any movement… she didn’t even blink, like a delicate doll.
You Ye was also a doll, an Alchemy doll, just covered by a layer of highly advanced Illusion Technique on the surface, so you couldn’t tell… Luo Ya possessed many non‑human parts as well as human parts, yet she looked even more like a true doll.
“You don’t like this room?”
Only when she saw Luo Qiu did that vacant gaze regain a trace of a girl’s Spiritual Energy… Luo Ya slowly shook her head.
Luo Qiu walked behind Luo Ya, placing his hands lightly on the girl’s shoulders, looking at their figures in the mirror… everything in the mirror resembled a painting, a painting that had hung in the Penglai Treasury for who knew how many years.
Luo Qiu took a b from the box on the dressing table, lifted Luo Ya’s hair, and gently bed it… The girl seemed to like this intimate act and closed her eyes contentedly to enjoy it.
Luo Ya’s mind right now was basically a blank… Luo Qiu couldn’t obtain any additional information from talking with her. This was probably a disguised “punishment” he’d received for having turned down the altar.
Or rather, only by not just losing her Power but even losing all her memories could she be recognized by the altar as being in a safe state and thus be allowed to remain.
The purple strands slipped through the gaps of the b, growing smoother and smoother, with a tactile sense that made it hard to let go. Luo Qiu realized that bing this purple long hair was actually a kind of enjoyment.
Time slowed down a little.
After quite a while, Luo Qiu finally stopped his hands. “If you want, you can try leaving this room. Aside from the three floors below, you can move around anywhere else in here. Outside is off‑limits for now, but after some time passes, I’ll try taking you out.”
The girl merely nodded.
Luo Qiu smiled, crouched down, looked at the girl’s side profile, and asked softly, “Right now, is there anything you want to do?”
The girl opened her eyes, picked up the b Luo Qiu had set down, and handed it to him.
“All right.”
Luo Qiu nodded. Even though there was no need to keep bing this already neat hair, he once again began to b the girl’s hair.
Time grew even slower.
…
…
The elevator doors slowly opened on the magazine’s floor, and a head cautiously poked out—scarf wrapped around the face, sunglasses on, furtively surveying the situation inside the magazine office.
“Sister Ren, morning!!”
The instant that energetic voice rang out, the woman in the headscarf felt a pat on her shoulder—then she jumped in fright.
“You trying—trying to scare someone to death!! You damn brat!”
Lizi felt she was pretty pitiful… she was only saying hello. But being able to see Ren Ziling’s jittery face every day was, in a way, a rather enjoyable thing.
Akiko was with her as well.
Since they were back, they naturally had to face what every member of society must face—going to work.
Not going to work was impossible, absolutely impossible—at least for Subeditor Ren, who carried a mortgage and a car loan and, after the New Year, had officially stepped into her thirties. Saying otherwise would be nothing but delusional nonsense.
“What are you sneaking around for?” Lizi asked curiously, and Akiko was also watching with a curious look.
Ren Ziling hunched over, clutching her handbag, and without a word, bolted straight for her own office—but just as this office’s defeated‑dog queen successfully rushed through the magazine’s front doors, she was caught red‑handed.
“Ren Ziling!”
The Subeditor’s body began to stiffen bit by bit. Her throat bobbed once, and she turned around stiffly, forcing a laugh. “Ah‑ha‑ha‑ha… Morning to you too, Chief Editor. Ah‑ha‑ha, the weather’s nice today, huh? I suddenly remembered there’s an interview I haven’t done yet… I’ll just head back out!”
“Get back here, you! e to my office and explain this to me!” The Chief Editor snorted coldly, clasped his hands behind his back, and walked back to his own office.
So the defeated‑dog queen of the office could only sigh, take off her scarf and sunglasses, pout, and trudge dejectedly after her direct superior into his office.
Right before going in, Her Majesty the Queen suddenly thought of a great way to get out of this, so she quietly said to the assistant sitting outside the Chief Editor’s office, “Go call the Chief Editor’s wife. Tell her the Chief wants to trade favors with you and is forcing you to lie over his desk after work.”
“Huh?”
The assistant blinked. She totally understood what this defeated‑dog queen was aiming at, but… but how was she supposed to call another woman and say: your husband is trying to sexually harass me?
Also, why has she even figured out the position already…
Seeing the assistant’s troubled face, Subeditor Ren made a vicious pinching motion at her… After this, the defeated‑dog queen might end up with a new nickname, something like: Mammy Ren.
“I… uh, I have to go print some documents, there are tons!! Tons!!”
She hurriedly rushed off.
Ren Ziling glared, sweeping her eyes over the people in the office, only to see them fast‑forward out of sight, disappearing all of a sudden… So Mammy Ren could only lament how faithless people were nowadays, and resignedly walked in.
“Ren Ziling, explain to me what you’ve been doing these past ten‑odd days! And what’s the meaning of this reimbursement form!!”
“If not… how about you just trade favors with me…”
“Get lost!! I love my wife very much!!”
After lamenting the faithlessness of others, Mammy Ren once again began lamenting her own fading years and lost youth…
“Lizi, shouldn’t we help Sister Ren?”
Outside the Chief Editor’s office, Lizi was peeking through a gap in the curtain, munching on snacks with a grin. Hearing this, she just waved her hand.
Akiko shook her head and had no choice but to go back to her own seat and sit down… As an intern, she actually didn’t have anything truly meaningful to do; what she had plenty of were all kinds of odd office chores.
Just then, the phone on her desk suddenly rang; it was a call transferred up from the lobby downstairs.
“My classmate?”
Akiko immediately frowned… Since when did she have any classmates here?
But what Akiko hadn’t expected was that the one claiming to be her classmate turned out to be Miss Ying—the master who had sent her here all the way from distant South America.
“Ying… Miss Song? How e you’re here?”
…
…
The editor-in-chief’s wife naturally did not bring a bunch of her sisters storming into the magazine office… In fact, no one even pushed the door open to say the coffee was ready.
Almost lunchtime, Mammy Ren finally escaped from her superior’s hellish scolding session, dragged herself back into her own office, and then slacked off all the way until it was time to get off work.
“Sister Ren, it’s time to go, aren’t you heading home?” Lizi came over to say hi.
“I’d love to go… I have to turn in at least one headline tomorrow, and I can’t even squeeze out a single word right now. Lizi, how about you…”
“I’m heading out first!! Suddenly remembered I haven’t washed yesterday’s clothes yet!” Lizi instantly shut the office door behind her.
“Damn it, I wasn’t finished yet… Whose kid is this? So freaking quick on the uptake?” Ren Ziling blinked her eyes, then went back to lying on the desk like a dead fish.
A little while later, there was a knock at the door.
The one who pushed the door open and entered was Akiko.
“You’re still not leaving?”
“Sister Ren, is there anything I can help with?” Akiko asked with a smile.
Ren Ziling shook her head. “If you’re not in a hurry to leave, just keep me pany and chat for a bit. I barely said a few words all day today.”
Akiko said, “In that case… how about we go have a couple of drinks? I know a newly opened Japanese place, it’s really good.”
“Sake, huh…” Ren Ziling rolled the pencil up with her lips, her eyes turning, “Sounds pretty nice… is it expensive?”
“Let me treat you, Sister Ren.” Akiko quickly said, “I just got my paycheck. Since I came here, you’ve taken such good care of me; let me treat you this time, okay? It’s just… do you still have work you need to finish?”
“Screw it, screw it!” Ren Ziling slapped both hands on the desk and stood up. “Working overtime? No way I’m working overtime, not in this life!!”
…
“This feels fucking amazing!”
Cheeks flushed, Miss Ren strode energetically out of the Japanese restaurant, beside her Akiko, whose face was also red with drunken color.
“Alright, we’re full and we’ve drunk enough.” Ren Ziling hiccuped, “I’ll take you home. I don’t drive after drinking, let’s call a ride-hailing car.”
“Mm, or we could walk a bit to digest?” Akiko suggested. “Let the booze wear off a little? Didn’t you say your son is back?”
Ren Ziling slapped her forehead. “Thanks for the reminder! Right, if I go back like this, that little brat is definitely gonna lecture me to death!”
“It looks pretty lively over there, let’s go take a look.”
They saw quite a number of pedestrians gathered on the street as if watching something… Ren Ziling had always loved a crowd; she didn’t even think before heading over.
Before they even got close, they heard music ing from within the crowd.
—Abracadabra
Right then, in the middle of the crowd, a girl with a gorgeous figure was moving her body to the sound blasting from the phone on the ground.
Women seem to have a natural pull that draws people’s eyes… People don’t resist beautiful things.
Her black long hair flew with the rhythm; her body swayed with a soft fluidity, and the exotic style of her dance brought a different kind of impact.
“Oh… women of this level are rare.” Miss Ren nodded at this moment.
There aren’t many girls in society with conditions like this—using her sharp eyes, she could even tell this dancing girl hadn’t had any work done, which made her even rarer.
What Ren Ziling found most admirable was that the girl was earning money this way instead of by other means—on the ground, right next to the phone, a small box had been placed, already filled with quite a bit of tip money.
Before they knew it, the music stopped, and warm applause rose all around; people started putting tip money into the box. Ren Ziling couldn’t help it and pulled out her wallet.
But just then, a figure suddenly rushed out of the crowd, snatched up the box and the phone on the ground in an instant, and then crashed back into the crowd.
“My phone!” The dancing girl let out a scream.
Robbery!
“Akiko, call the police!”
The ever-righteous Subeditor Ren didn’t even think; she just kicked off her heeled shoes and tore after him.
The robber was now desperately trying to lose himself in the maze of the city… It was just that he didn’t seem familiar with the area, or maybe Subeditor Ren simply knew this city too well.
Little by little, she gained on him.
“Old hag!! Get the hell away from me!!!”
“Your damn mother’s the old hag!!”
At the mouth of an alley, Ren Ziling suddenly leapt up, planted a foot on the wall, and lashed out with a sideways kick straight at the man!
The man glanced back and, seeing Ren Ziling flying in with that kick, was shocked; the next second, his head was brutally swept by her leg, and he instantly lost his bearings, stars bursting before his eyes as he crashed to the ground.
The money box and the girl’s phone both fell to the ground as well.
The man scrambled back up. Hearing shouts ing from the end of the alley, he gritted his teeth. “You bitch! Just you wait!”
As he spoke, he flung out a handful of cement dust and turned to bolt deeper into the alley.
Ren Ziling didn’t continue the chase—she had no idea if the guy had acplices or what tricks he still had up his sleeve—most importantly, she couldn’t afford to get herself hurt over this, so she could only stop here.
“Sister Ren, Sister Ren, are you okay! Where is he?”
Akiko caught up, along with the long-haired black-haired girl who had been dancing for money… The girl’s face was a little pale and flustered; she looked truly shaken.
“I’m fine, ran him off.” Ren Ziling waved a hand. “Just a small-time punk! I’ll have someone fish him out later… Daring to throw tough talk at me… Anyway, are you alright? Did I scare you?”
The long-haired girl rushed over anxiously.
Nervously, she picked up the phone that had fallen to the ground, then pressed the lock button with trepidation; seeing it boot up normally, she finally let out a breath.
Only then did she turn to Ren Ziling and Akiko and say gratefully, “Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!”
Seeing the girl on the verge of tears, looking so pitiful and fragile, Ren Ziling waved her hand and asked curiously, “Is that phone really that important? When he grabbed your stuff just now, the first thing you yelled about was the phone.”
The girl nodded, her face haggard and dim, her voice soft and weak. “Inside… are a lot of memories of me and my boyfriend…”
“Oh…” Ren Ziling nodded, more or less understanding. “You should be okay now, right? But it’s already pretty late; how about letting your boyfriend e pick you up?”
The girl opened her mouth, hesitated, then gently shook her head.
“What’s wrong, your boyfriend isn’t here in this city?”
The girl sighed. “Actually… I’m looking for him too. I only know he should be in this city, but… I’ve been here a long time and still haven’t found him. One day he just suddenly disappeared…”
Ren Ziling, who’d seen way too much of the world, easily heard what was behind the girl’s few words.
This kid had definitely bumped into some scumbag who used her up and bailed!
