Chapter 1171: Chapter 12: Escape May Be Shameful, But It Works

Teacher Gao quickly gave his answer, but lecturers also have their own reservations, “Since it’s a general situation, then for this problem, we need to consider many reasons. For example, whether changing to a new environment is more favorable for him. For instance, whether he cannot bear the strictness of his current job, preferring to give up a job that seems promising to others rather than go against his own wishes… and so on.”

The girl nodded but further asked, “Then, is there a possibility like this? That this person made a mistake in his original job. He tried hard to cover up this mistake, fearing others would find out, but as time went by, he eventually couldn’t bear the guilt, and was afraid one day someone would discover the mistake, so he chose to escape, thus leaving?”

Gao Wen smiled slightly, “If it’s such a case, it does exist, and not infrequently. Just as I mentioned in the class earlier, ‘concealment behavior,’ escaping fear, counts as one among them. For most people, this idea can actually be summed up as ‘escaping, though shameful, is useful.’.”

The girl suddenly asked, “Escape although shameful, but useful… Teacher, based on what you said, do you think this is a universal value nowadays?”

Gao Wen imperceptibly frowned, he could feel that the questions from this female student and her speech contained some kind of directionality, a rather obvious intention with some purpose behind her approach.

But he also thought the question was quite interesting, as there were not many students truly aiming to do scholarly work among those who were either seriously studying or passing time until graduation.

The lecturer adjusted his glasses; as a teacher, he needed to weigh his words, “Not everyone has the ability to match their ideas. We often think more than we do, and what we do is often much more plicated than what we think. Escape is a subconscious, even instinctive behavior. I think it shouldn’t be categorized in the values aspect, much less defined as universal.”

The girl continued, “But isn’t behavior often a vessel for someone’s values? Like, heroes can sacrifice themselves to save others, while villains plot harm over trivial gains, right?”

Gao Wen nodded, but laughed and said, “However, have you thought about whether heroes initially are willing to sacrifice to save others? And villains, have they learned to harm from a young age? But when you’re frightened, you don’t need anyone to teach you how to escape. The former two are values formed through accumulated experience, whereas the latter, is an instinctive spontaneous act requiring no judgement. The hero you speak of must have gone through a mental struggle when risking his life to save; he surely feared too but ultimately overcame it with his resolve. The villain sure feared as well before harming, also contemplating many negative elements, but his greed prevailed over rationality. There’s an internal conflict process involved in this. Escape is merely an act, but after the escape, the person needs a reason to feel safe. ‘Escaping, though shameful, is useful,’ ‘Others do it too,’ ‘I’m merely a regular person,’ and so on.”

The female student glanced at Gao Wen, nodding, “Then, teacher Gao, have you had moments like that? Escaping, then providing yourself with similar reasons to feel safe?”

“I certainly have,” Gao Wen smiled slightly, saying, “After all, teachers aren’t saints.”

The female student nodded, “Thank you, teacher, I’ve finished my questions.”

At least not endlessly… Gao Wen nodded too, “Hopefully you find it helpful… So, what’s your question?”

Gao Wen at this point looked at the boy next to him.

The boy slowly said, “Forgiveness… could it be quite difficult.”

Gao Wen slightly opened his mouth, this was a relatively unexpected question for him. He pondered for a moment before nodding, “It’s very difficult, harder than anything else.”

“I think so too,” the boy nodded, “I finished my question as well.”

After asking, the boy courteously turned around and left… The girl on the side was startled seeing this, realizing the boy was indeed leaving, she hurriedly followed without saying goodbye to Gao Wen.

Watching the two students leave, Gao Wen initially frowned in puzzlement…he continuously felt he had seen this boy somewhere before.

Suddenly, Gao Wen seemed to recall something, his face changed slightly, “Wait, you there!”

However, when he chased out of the classroom door, the corridor left and right, he could no longer see the figures of the male and female students.

Gao Wen was stunned.

Finally, at a memorial service several years ago, that thin figure holding a photo frame, standing before the spiritual hall, expressionless, yet seemingly having pletely isolated himself from this world, slowly emerged in Gao Wen’s mind.

“He is Luo Qi’s son…”

“Wait for me!” Song Ying plained as she walked forward along the campus path.

Luo Qiu stopped, saying softly, “Are you thirsty? There’s a shop up ahead.”

Song Ying replied, “At this time, you seem so unhurried? And we just asked one question? Are you sure he’s the criminal?”

Luo Qiu answered, “You asked him so much, are you sure he’s the criminal?”

Song Ying was caught by the question, frowning, recalling the conversation with Gao Wen, pondering, “Hard to say. I feel this guy is very confident. If there was some guilt, there would be some unnatural behavior… Yet he’s too natural. Even if he’s a psychology lecturer, he controls himself too well, right? Thus, being overly natural, doesn’t it seem too abnormal?”

Luo Qiu just lightly sighed, and said quietly, “Escaping, though shameful, is useful.”

“What?” Song Ying was taken aback, not knowing why Luo Qiu suddenly mentioned this.

Luo Qiu shook his head, “Let’s call it a day… I have other matters, will call you later, okay?”

Song Ying frowned, “There are still two more suspects, aren’t you planning to check them out?”

Luo Qiu casually said, “The bus over there is about to depart, I’m leaving first.”

Watching Luo Qiu walk towards the bus stop in front, Song Ying opened her mouth, stamped her foot, crossed her arms, and got a little angry, “What the… Emperor isn’t anxious but his eunuch is? Do you think I care? If it wasn’t for grandpa asking me to e, who would bother with you, hmph! You aren’t going, I’ll go on my own!”

At this moment, the phone rang.

Song Ying answered it without a care.

“Ms. Ren, we’ve arrived, now waiting at the airport. Eight came this time, all investigation elites.”

“I’m upset, make a few laps around the airport before ing out!”

“…Huh?”

Beep——!

The case is extremely serious. From the discovery of the body it took less than three hours for the bureau to organize a meeting and establish a task force.

Due to the case’s heinousness and serious societal impact, the leaders have ordered the case must be solved in a short time.

Personnel from both Team One and Team Two were assembled, and the initial analysis of the case was pleted—after all, within an hour after the incident, the director personally handled it, deploying almost all available forces save for essential services.

“Currently, the body is still being pieced together, examinations in various areas have menced, but time is needed.”

“There’s no surveillance camera installed at the crime scene, and the nearest camera is still two hundred meters away at the intersection. It’s hard to extract any useful information.”

“We’ve temporarily questioned the nearby residents, but haven’t found any useful information…”

Several investigators stood up to report, and the photo on the projector screen was still the same photo taken at the crime scene, without any changes. A cloud of frustration gradually covered everyone’s heads.

“Additionally, we haven’t found the tenant of the crime house yet, Wang Liang…” Officer Lin stood up to speak, “We’ve already contacted his hometown. There are discrepancies in what the landlord and Wang Liang’s family said; according to Wang Liang’s family, he did not return home before the New Year.”

“Didn’t go home?” Officer Ma and the director were simultaneously stunned, and Officer Ma then directly asked, “So during this period, did Wang Liang’s family have any contact with Wang Liang?”

“Yes.” Lin Feng nodded, “According to Wang Liang’s father, he talked to him on the phone a couple of days ago, saying he had found a new job with good pay, although he had to go somewhere far away, and might not be able to return home this year.”

“The landlord said he went back home, but the people at home said they hadn’t seen him… so, missing?” At this time, another man suddenly asked, “Have you investigated Wang Liang’s background?”

Lin Feng looked over, the man asking was the team leader of the second brigade, Zhou Yusheng… Because this time it was a joint operation, half of the people at the meeting were from the second brigade.

“Oh, Team Leader Zhou, we’ve also checked Wang Liang’s background.” Lin Feng nodded.

Finally, the content on the projection screen changed, showing a man with alternative summons, wearing earrings and even tongue studs: Wang Liang.

“Wang Liang, from HT City, TM County, 23 years old, started working in society after graduating high school. Before disappearing, he worked as a bartender at a bar; his reputation wasn’t very good, had some social background, and had mitted several acts of fraud against women, even once a victim reported to us, but due to insufficient evidence, we didn’t file a case. However, Wang Liang resigned before disappearing, and the time coincided with what the landlord said about him returning home.”

The director solemnly said at this point, “List Wang Liang as an important suspect immediately, and pursue him to bring him to justice as soon as possible. Officer Ma, Zhou Yusheng, it’s up to you here; I need to go back and prepare for a meeting in the city… Remember, solve the case within the time limit!”

“Yes!!”

Although usually busy, such a big operation suddenly hadn’t happened for quite a while… After the director quickly left, Officer Ma took a deep sigh and rubbed his brow.

Since it’s been entrusted to him and the second brigade team leader Zhou Yusheng, the next step naturally involves munication between the two captains.

After letting everyone continue the investigation closely, Officer Ma finally had time to chat with Zhou Yusheng.

In Officer Ma’s eyes, Zhou Yusheng is pletely a workaholic, often working on a case non-stop for days without going home… If Officer Ma unconsciously had lost much of his ambition and chose to slack off at work to escape, then Zhou Yusheng was entirely his opposite.

Unkempt appearance, bloodshot eyes, drinking cup after cup of coffee to stay alert; his body probably has a resistance to such stimulating substances by now?

“Officer Zhou, it seems you just recently solved a case?” Officer Ma frowned, “I heard it’s been four or five days since you last went home. How about this, the dismemberment case probably can’t be worked on for a short time, why don’t you go home and have a good rest, leave things to me first?”

But Zhou Yusheng wiped his face with both hands and shook his head, “I’m fine, I can handle it. This case has a time limit for resolution, it’s very tense; the manpower is already insufficient, if I rest now, it’ll affect the progress of the case.”

Officer Ma said, “Officer Zhou, anyone can see you’re already very exhausted. To be honest, if you’re in this state, I’m refusing to collaborate with you. If you don’t rest, I’ll report to the higher-ups and request a change of personnel.”

“This…” Zhou Yusheng opened his mouth.

Officer Ma sighed, “Brother Zhou, being serious and responsible at work is a good thing, but you have to know your limits. You’re the leader, leading by example is correct, but you can’t fall down yourself… Besides, I heard you’ve had a hard time lately, right?”

Zhou Yusheng was silent.

Officer Ma sighed again, “I’m not saying I want to interfere in your family matters, just afraid you’re being affected by them, plus you’re overworking.”

“Alright, I’ll rest for half a day.” Zhou Yusheng slowly sighed, “I’ll leave my team to you temporarily, I’ll be back in the evening.”

“Tomorrow, e back tomorrow morning!” Officer Ma knocked on the table, “Anyway, the forensic report won’t have any results until at least a day later.”

After Officer Ma’s firm stance, Zhou Yusheng ultimately didn’t continue to be stubborn, nodded, and then left the meeting room.

Lin Feng was organizing the data at this time, walked over and sat down, “Officer Ma, seeing Officer Zhou, he looks like he hasn’t slept for three days and nights at least… Truly resilient, no wonder he’s the iron man of the bureau!”

Officer Ma shook his head, “How can a person be made of iron… This kid isn’t just working seriously, it’s like he doesn’t value his life. Now it’s bad, working day and night, and it ends with a broken family, sigh… By the way, what are you still standing here for?”

“I… I’m waiting for your instructions, Officer Ma, and casually connecting emotionally.” Lin Feng blinked.

Officer Ma didn’t blink, instead widened his eyes, “Get out there and find Wang Liang!! Do you want to go three days and nights without sleep too!”

“Going right away!”

Watching Lin Feng slink off, Officer Ma shook his head, young people these days… He sighed, then took out his phone, and switched to a goofy expression.

“Hey, honey! Have you eaten… not hungry? You have to eat, whether it’s big or small… Take good care of yourself, I might need to work overtime tonight… You’ve already guessed? Fine… kisses, muma!”

Once the call ended, Officer Ma hummed, “See, I’m different!”

When Luo Qiu returned to the club, it was already nearing evening.

The maid, as usual, walked over, thoughtfully serving him, while Da Zhe’s gaze was subtly strange, hesitant to speak, seemingly full of questions—since last night, he had been forbidden to leave the club.

Of course, this applied to everyone else in the club too—but external consultation hadn’t been stopped because of this; the club clearly knew about the scary blackout last night.

But the boss’s expression at this moment didn’t reveal anything… or rather, from the beginning, Da Zhe found it difficult to see any of Luo Qiu’s thoughts through his face.

Only the maid could well guess the boss’s mind—but since last night, the maid hadn’t said a word.

“Wait for me, I’m heading over to…”

Initially intending to say he would go to the third-tier altar, Luo Qiu didn’t finish his sentence and tilted his head, looking at the pinewood door of the main hall.

The sound of a bell ringing, indicating the arrival of a guest.

Luo Qiu’s words were momentarily paused.
