Chapter 1248: Chapter 89: Cheap Mercy

Private lounge on the twenty-seventh floor of the hotel.

An elderly foreign gentleman with white hair gazed out at the night scenery. At the same time, a young man strode in from outside.

“Boss, we’ve found Nan Xiao Nan; she’s returned to her former apartment.”

The white-haired elder took a handkerchief from his breast pocket, covered his lips, and coughed lightly twice, then seemed about to stand up, prompting the young man to step forward and support him.

“You’ve been unable to find her these past days, yet only realized when she returned to the apartment.” The white-haired elder looked calmly at the young man beside him, “Jimmy, should I start doubting your petence?”

The young man, Jimmy, lowered his head and hesitated to speak—for, truthfully, there were two things he still didn’t quite understand.

The first was that the assassin sent to kill Nan Xiao Nan, number 7, was found dead by a bullet from his own sniper rifle, and the sniper rifle had fired only one shot. The team sent to clean up couldn’t even find traces of intrusion at number 7’s ambush site.

Moreover, number 7 should not have released the sniper rifle before dying; from his prone position, he was likely on the windowsill at the moment he was shot, ready to snipe.

Jimmy recalled that number 7 even municated with him before confirming the shot.

The other issue was that those tracking Nan Xiao Nan said they couldn’t see her at all in recent days, yet she was indeed working…

“Why aren’t you speaking?” The white-haired elder raised his voice slightly.

Jimmy replied seriously, “I’ve dispatched numbers four and five; they’re watching her 24/7. If Qin is really not dead, he will be exposed, and I’ll capture him and personally bring him before you, boss.”

“I await your good news.” The white-haired elder exhaled slowly.

At that moment, a man in a suit respectfully entered, “Mr. Haus, there’s a Miss Song outside who wishes to see you… she has entrusted me with something for you.”

Jimmy took the envelope from the man’s hand and, upon opening it, found a piece of cardboard.

Rather than open the cardboard, he handed it to the white-haired elder… Mr. Haus.

Mr. Haus opened it and frowned, then turned to the man who had entered, “Did this Miss Song bring anyone along?”

The man responded, “She seems to have an assistant and several individuals who appear to be bodyguards.”

“Hmm…” Mr. Haus pondered for a moment before nodding, “Arrange it, let’s meet her.”

“Understood.” The man promptly turned and left.

Jimmy was puzzled at this time, “Boss, who is this Miss Song?”

Mr. Haus shook his head but raised the card in his hand, “I don’t know who this Miss Song is yet, but I do know who owns this kind of card… one must offer some respect.”

“Who is it?”

“The head of Hua Country’s southern business district, Mrs. Zhang of the Zhang Family.” Mr. Haus put the card away, “Acpany me to meet her. This lady would not easily write a letter of introduction, so anyone who can engage her must possess some ability.”

“Understood.” Jimmy nodded.

In the reception room.

“By the way, what did you mean by big pig’s trotter you mentioned earlier?”

Song Ying sat very upright in the reception room, having recalled the unfinished conversation in the car; she slightly turned to ask the assistant beside her.

“It’s… it’s an internet term from Hua Country; recently saw it on a web series, in the ments—it generally means men are great in every way, except they’re careless and slow-witted.”

“Oh…” Song Ying realized and nodded thoughtfully.

Luo Qiu careless…? Doesn’t seem like it, does it?

Slow-witted, on the other hand…

At this moment.

The sound of the door opening interrupted Miss Ying’s wandering thoughts as a white-haired elder holding a cane slowly walked in, followed by a handsome young man.

As the CEO of Song Dynasty for over a year, Song Ying had encountered numerous young talents—the likes of this youth with such intensity were rare.

However, her primary focus was on Mr. Haus, while she started recalling the information about him she’d read.

This elderly man was already ninety years old, having experienced World War II, formerly served as a captain in a certain country, was a smuggler of pharmaceutical drugs before the war, elevating his status by smuggling scarce medicines under military rank during wartime.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was a highly renowned pharmaceutical merchant and philanthropist in Europe, and by the late 1990s, was even knighted by the Danish Royal Family.

Ten years ago, he began expanding into overseas markets, initially targeting Hua Country.

For the past two years, he’s spent substantial time in Hua Country, outwardly stating it’s due to his affinity for Hua Country’s opera culture…

“Hello, Mr. Haus.”

Both out of respect for the elder and as a party seeking cooperation, a proactive greeting was necessary… Song Ying reached out to Mr. Haus with a smile.

“Miss Song.”

Mr. Haus merely extended his hand for a light handshake, “I saw Mrs. Zhang’s introduction, please tell me how I may assist you?”

Song Ying smiled confidently, “Mr. Haus, before we discuss business, there are some things I’d like you to review.”

At Song Ying’s indication, her assistant delivered the prepared documents, “Mr. Haus, these are our pany’s products.”

“Oh?” Mr. Haus nodded, sat down, and began reviewing the documents closely.

Song Ying also sat down, not diverting her gaze… yet, somewhat unfortable with Mr. Haus’s young man’s gaze—youths she encountered often had similar looks, long accustomed to it.

After a moment.

“These products…” Mr. Haus slightly looked up and glanced at Song Ying.

Song Ying simply smiled lightly, not speaking.

Mr. Haus, patience evident, returned to examining the documents, his focus increasingly sharp.

Finally, Mr. Haus closed the documents and placed them on the table, contemplating briefly before stating, “Miss Song, you want to collaborate with me?”

“What does Mr. Haus think of these products?”

Mr. Haus replied nonchalantly, “The data looks very promising. The three products listed here, if produced, would be beneficial to many patients, especially the anti-cancer medicine mentioned—it surpasses current mainstream drugs… to be honest, I’m curious why such a medication has never been reported.”

The assistant responded calmly with a smile, “Because these medications since developed have never been revealed. However, patent applications have been pleted in recent days… Mr. Haus, here’s the professional certification.”

The assistant placed another document on the table.

But this time, Mr. Haus didn’t look at it; instead, he asked, “Why has Miss Song sought me out?”

Song Ying got straight to the point, “I hope to sign a production and overseas sales contract with Mr. Haus. For these three medications, I intend to grant the overseas sales rights to you.”

Mr. Haus smiled and said, “Miss Song, your pany has developed these drugs, so I assume you’re not lacking in funds… I’m curious why I’ve never heard of you in the pharmaceutical industry.”

“The family prefers to keep a low profile,” Song Ying maintained her smile. “This time, our family intends to make a significant impact, hence the decision to use these products.”

Mr. Haus said happily, “Then let me congratulate Miss Song first on her success. If these three drugs can enter the market, the heights they can reach are unimaginable… To be honest, I’m very willing to sign this overseas distributor contract. Of course, that’s assuming everything is real.”

“We have plenty of clinical trial data,” Song Ying said earnestly. “I’m prepared to visit Mr. Haus, and choosing to cooperate with you is because your pany’s conditions are very mature.”

Mr. Haus laughed, “Miss Song, why not also grant me the domestic sales rights?”

Song Ying replied, “For the domestic market, our pany plans to handle it ourselves.”

Mr. Haus smiled, neither agreeing nor refusing, but merely said apologetically, “Miss Song, I’ve been feeling unwell lately; I’d like to go back and rest. We’ll discuss cooperation when we have a chance to chat again. This is Jimmy; once I’ve made up my mind, I’ll have him contact you.”

“Of course.” Song Ying nodded with a smile.

The assistant left Jimmy with their contact information, and afterwards, Jimmy took the document and guided Mr. Haus out of the meeting room.

Shortly after, a lounge waiter came over with a bottle of red wine, saying it was sent by Mr. Haus.

The assistant opened the wine and poured a glass for Song Ying, “Mr. Haus seems like he’s not too interested… It’s probably not an act.”

Song Ying murmured with the wine glass in hand, “These drugs were spearheaded by Mr. Blind and have always been exclusive to the village. I can assure you they are superior to any similar products in the market. That old man should be tempted…”

“Could it be a pricing issue?” the assistant wondered.

Song Ying shook her head, “Two pricing schemes; the overseas pricing yields great profit, anyone would be tempted. And overseas sales are our profit source. But grandfather’s intention is, for the domestic market, we must do it ourselves and make it as cheap as possible. This is an attitude, to let the government know the stance of our Song Family, and it can also be seen as a form of giving back. Grandfather wants to establish himself domestically, for the Song Family to return to its roots; we can no longer do the old business. The only thing we can present for governmental relations is the pharmaceutical business… If domestic drugs can bat imported drugs, solve the high costs and unaffordability of medications for patients, that’s the Song Family’s answer to the authorities. Only this way can we receive support, save time, and count as a rite of declaration.”

The assistant said, “If Mr. Haus doesn’t intend to relinquish domestic sales rights…”

Song Ying shook her head, “Then we’ll keep negotiating with him; overseas sales profits are enough to entice any merchant. That old man should be clear on the profit margins; neither his agreement nor refusal is a definitive gesture. During these days, we won’t actively contact him; he won’t be able to resist. Besides… we aren’t reliant on Haus, but we must use this Haus.”

“Ms. Ren, does Father have other intentions?”

Song Ying glanced at the assistant—if she were merely part of the Song Dynasty Group, Song Ying wouldn’t disclose her thoughts; but she was selected from the village.

“Haus is just our first step to approach the Zhao Family of the Capital.”

“The Zhao Family from the capital?”

Song Ying nodded and said seriously, “You’re from the village; you should know the history of the Song Family… Why did grandfather face ruin, why did he flee abroad?”

“Ms. Ren, are you implying… Zhao Family?”

Song Ying placed the wine glass down without drinking, saying indifferently, “A trace… but that’s enough.”

The assistant quickly said, “If it’s really the Zhao Family, then…”

Song Ying shook her head, her eyes fierce, “This is not South America; the Zhao Family is deeply rooted domestically. But… when it es to using capital to overthrow them, I have never feared anyone.”

“Ms. Ren is powerful indeed!” The assistant enthusiastically flattered.

Song Ying rolled her eyes, “Watch fewer tasteless dramas in the future, focus on your work; the ing year is crucial for the new pany.”

“Alright.” The assistant nodded, feeling secretly relieved that Miss Ying wasn’t a fan of watching TV dramas.

Song Ying’s entertainment activities were extremely limited; her only stress release was racing, but domestically, it’s not like South America—the roads are congested, not to mention the abundance of traffic lights, barely shifting to fifth gear before having to stop.

“Ms. Ren, are we heading back to rest now?”

Song Ying thought for a while, then shook her head, “No, let’s visit the new pany. I want to see how the renovations are ing along. Later, organize last week’s work report from the Song Dynasty for me. The time should still be early there; I’ll have a video conference later.”

The assistant inwardly cursed but dared not say much, simply nodding in agreement.

“Boss, Miss Song has already left.”

Mr. Haus lowered his head, rubbed his forehead with his fingers, and said nothing.

Jimmy asked, “Boss, are you considering the cooperation matter?”

Mr. Haus shook his head, “The profits from these new drugs are tremendous; in the past, I would have signed without hesitation. But now, I’m not interested.”

Jimmy nodded understandingly.

Mr. Haus started coughing again, and Jimmy quickly took out some medication, helping Mr. Haus take it. After a while, he finally caught his breath, yet appeared haggard.

He sighed, suddenly looking at the young and handsome Jimmy, “Even with ten times my fortune, you surpass me.”

Jimmy lowered his head in silence, fully aware of what this old man feared.

Mr. Haus’s interest waned instantly; he waved his hand, “I need to rest; you may leave… Handle this partnership, and talk to Miss Song about it in a couple of days.”

“Alright.”

Behind four glass walls, Zhong Luochen was watching the person inside the glass house along with 24.

Sitting inside the glass house was a man, entirely disheveled, his hair matted, face covered in grime—his gaze scattered, frequently displaying a foolish grin.

Looking at the foolish man inside, 24 said, “This one won’t work; too old, and insane. It’s better to have someone younger with a pure mind; the success rate will be higher.”

Zhong Luochen calmly replied, “Such a child is far more valuable than this fool; wait until Mr. Blind can assure the success rate, then it won’t be too late to use better material.”

“Such cheap passion.” 24 dismissed, chuckling cunningly as he entered the glass room and then lowered the curtains.

Soon, screams emanated from within.

Zhong Luochen’s expression did not change; his gaze was steady, just listening.
