566: A Disguiser 566: A Disguiser In the surveillance footage, we suddenly see this man named ‘Qian Guoliang’ appear right in front of the camera.
He’s already suffered a fatal injury at this point, barely able to stumble forward while bracing himself against the wall, heading towards the stairs up to the top deck.
“Strange, is this the only section?” Officer Ma frowned here.
Mu Enli said calmly, “Search again.”
The staff at the monitoring desk quickly turned on all the screens and started rewinding footage from all the time periods.
In the end, the staff helplessly said, “Captain, there’s nothing, just this segment.”
Officer Ma started pacing back and forth.
“There’s no way this is the only part… If we can’t find anything else, there are only two possibilities.”
“Which two possibilities, Officer Ma?” Mu Enli asked.
Officer Ma stopped and said, “First, someone secretly altered the footage… but that seems unlikely.
When something happened we came here right away, the murderer probably couldn’t have been quicker than us.”
“Besides us, has anyone e here beforehand?” The old captain suddenly asked everyone in the surveillance room.
Everyone shook their heads.
Officer Ma said, “Then there’s one possibility left… the deceased Qian Guoliang was skilled enough to avoid all the cameras.”
“That… can’t be, right?
These cameras were only installed a couple years ago—they shouldn’t have any blind spots.” The staff said instinctively.
Officer Ma nodded.
“Exactly.
The camera coverage is wide enough, no matter how you try, it’d be hard to dodge all of them.
Especially since this guy’s dying, he wouldn’t be thinking about evading cameras.
In fact, he’d want to be found… Look, he’s heading toward the deck, for sure trying to get help.”
“Then it’s weird… what, is the guy a ghost?” the staff blurted out.
“Trust in science!” Officer Ma said forcefully, “Strength, democracy… Here, a sixteen-word motto for you!”
But even so, how did the deceased suddenly appear in the corridor… Officer Ma couldn’t help replaying that footage over and over.
“Captain!
We’ve found Qian Guoliang’s registration info and his cabin.” A crewmember hurried in at this moment.
“Give me the info.” Officer Ma reached out and took it without another word.
“Take me to this person’s room now.”
Everyone left the control room.
Officer Ma made a phone call on the way.
“Lin Feng?
The helicopter’s not ready yet… never mind, look something up for me first.
The deceased, Qian Guoliang, occupation: engineer, ID number is…”
“Got it, Officer Ma!
I’ll check right away!”
…
…
Walking down the stairs to the top deck, you could see clear and shockingly vivid… bloody handprints smeared along the wall.
Ren Ziling, however, looked unfazed as she walked down, thinking about something the whole way, with Lizi trailing behind, licking a lollipop.
“Say, Lizi, you can actually eat snacks at a time like this?
Aren’t you scared?” Ren Ziling asked, turning her head in curiosity.
“That’s because you’re here, Sister Ren.
Nothing to be afraid of.” Lizi blinked.
“Also, eating sweets keeps you calm.”
“Heh, no need to butter me up.” Ren Ziling shrugged.
“But, seriously, why would this guy go upstairs to the deck?”
“Maybe he wanted to find someone for help?” Lizi guessed.
Ren Ziling shook her head.
“If it were you, badly hurt, would you really force yourself to climb the stairs?
Isn’t calling for help faster?”
“Didn’t Officer Ma just check?
The victim had nothing on him.”
Ren Ziling nodded.
“That’s the problem.
You say the killer took his stuff, fine.
But why not wait till he was really dead?”
“He escaped or something?”
“If you took all his things and stabbed him in the chest, how could you still let him run?
How useless would you have to be?”
Lizi stuck out her tongue.
At that moment, a crew member suddenly appeared and barked, “You two!
What are you doing here!
This area’s sealed off—leave!
This isn’t a sightseeing spot.”
Subeditor Ren shot him a glare, turned around and put her hands on her hips.
“Don’t you know who I am?”
The crewman honestly shook his head… How would I know who this woman is?
Well, she’s got a nice figure…
Subeditor Ren instantly switched into a feisty mode, jabbing a finger at the crewman.
“Idiot!
Didn’t you see me with Officer Ma just now?
Officer Ma is in the control room investigating, so of course we’re staying here to look at the scene!
Are you trying to get in our way?”
The crewman got a fright, straightened up instantly.
“Sorry, sorry!
My eyesight’s bad!
Please, go ahead!
Let me know if you need anything!”
So Subeditor Ren looked at the crewman and said, “Go tell your colleagues to guard the area and don’t let unauthorized people wander in!”
“G–got it!
I’ll go now!”
Once the crewman walked off, Ren Ziling turned and flashed Lizi a victory sign.
Whatever makes you happy… Lizi kept quietly licking her lollipop.
“Strange, the handprints just disappear here?”
Ren Ziling and Lizi reached the corner of the corridor and saw that the handprints seemed to appear out of nowhere right here… There was some blood on the floor, but apart from that, nothing else.
Lizi knocked on the walls all around and tried pushing on the nearby doors, shaking her head.
“The walls are solid.
Far as the doors go… they’re locked, and there’s no blood on the knobs.
Did he…?”
Lizi instinctively looked up at the ceiling; Ren Ziling did too, almost at the same moment, glancing at where the blood trail would line up on the ceiling.
She spoke right up, “Lizi, squat down!”
“Why?”
“How am I supposed to climb up if I don’t stand on you?”
“…Sister Ren, how much do you weigh?”
“Just squat down!!” Ren Ziling smacked Lizi on the back of the head.
…
…
“Here’s the room.” The crewman led everyone to the door of the deceased Qian Guoliang’s cabin.
Officer Ma said directly, “You’ve got a spare key, right?
Open it.”
The crewman nodded quickly, pulled out the spare key, unlocked the door, and was just about to push it open when Officer Ma stopped him.
“You all, stand to the sides.”
He pressed himself against the wall beside the door, gently pushed the door open a crack, waited a few seconds, then shoved it all the way open.
“Someone’s here!”
Everyone saw a man, about twenty-seven or twenty-eight, tied to a chair in the room, head hanging as if unconscious.
Officer Ma scanned the room.
“Wake him up.
Also, look for anything special in here—leave any clues you find.”
So a crewman eagerly stepped forward, shaking the bound man roughly.
“Wake up!
Sir, wake up!
Wake up… Officer Ma, he’s not waking up?”
Officer Ma rolled his eyes.
“Of course he won’t wake up like that… Let me do it.”
Officer Ma grabbed a cup, filled it with water, and walked over to the man.
Everyone stared closely at the officer… when Officer Ma suddenly said, “All of you, turn your backs!
Don’t look.”
The crowd glanced at the old captain, who shook his head and consciously turned away.
The rest had no choice but to follow.
Only then did Officer Ma take a mouthful of cold water, then punched the man hard in the stomach and spat out… the water in his mouth.
He spat it right in the guy’s face!
The unconscious man’s eyelids twitched and slowly opened… Flying Eagle opened his eyes, first looking confused, then sharply furrowing his brow.
Who are all these people… And why does my stomach feel like it just got stomped by a hippopotamus?
And why is my face all wet… So unfortable!!
“Who… who are you?” Flying Eagle stared at everyone with ‘terror’ in his eyes.
“What are you going to do to me?
Why did you tie me up!”
Officer Ma had seen plenty of looks like this and was just about to question him when his phone rang—it was Lin Feng.
“Officer Ma, I found the person you asked about—Qian Guoliang, job and pany all match up.
But… Qian Guoliang is in Australia right now.
I just spoke to him.
He’s not dead at all?”
“What?
Not dead?” Officer Ma looked utterly stunned, frowned, and instinctively glanced at the man still tied up here.
