570: Missing Puffer and Different Palm Prints 570: Missing Puffer and Different Palm Prints “Please, have a seat!

Is there anything you two would like to eat?”

The waiter was very polite, even enthusiastically pulling out chairs for Luo Qiu and You Ye and presenting them the menu.

Luo Qiu looked at the menu for a moment before finally raising his head and asking, “Do you have fugu dishes?”

“Ah, I’m really sorry,” the waiter apologized, “If you order it now, I doubt we could make it.”

Luo Qiu asked curiously, “But isn’t it listed on the menu?

And it’s even a signature dish.”

The waiter answered, “Sir, you know, fugu is really hard to prepare.

If the chef isn’t careful, eating it can be a big problem.

Fugu really is our signature dish, but the only chef here who can handle fugu hurt his hand getting on board, so he can’t handle knives at the moment.”

“Oh?” Luo Qiu nodded, “So in other words, there’s actually no fugu here?”

The waiter said, “Not exactly, boss bought some.

But since the chef can’t prepare it, it’s just sitting in the freezer.

It won’t go bad, but it just won’t be as fresh.”

Boss Luo nodded, then suddenly asked, “I bet a lot of people e here just to eat fugu, right?”

The waiter was in a good mood.

He smiled, glanced at the front desk, then lowered his voice and said, “To be honest, even though it’s our signature dish, it doesn’t really sell that well…

You know, fugu can kill you if prepared wrong, so most people are too scared to eat it.

The boss just uses it as a gimmick.

We don’t even sell a few orders a day.

But honestly, for those brave enough to try it, it tastes really amazing!

I’ve had it—the flavor is simply indescribable!

Once you try it, you’ll want it again.”

“But you don’t have any now, do you?” You Ye replied calmly.

The waiter could only laugh awkwardly, staring at this stunningly beautiful woman and seeming a bit dazed, as if unable to look away.

“But really!

Fugu here is fantastic!

Even our captain is a fan!”

“The captain…

eats here too?” Luo Qiu put down the menu.

“Yeah, he’s a regular.” The waiter pointed toward a corner of the restaurant, “Whenever he’s here, the captain always sits in that spot and always orders fugu.”

It’s the spot with a view of the sea.

“Did the captain e yesterday too?” You Ye asked, intrigued.

The waiter showed a fanboy expression and replied without thinking, “He was here for lunch yesterday, but couldn’t have fugu either, so he just chatted with the chef for a bit and left.”

“Give us a sushi platter.” You Ye smiled.

“That’s all we need.”

The waiter nodded, looking a little let down as he walked away—since this was a Japanese-style restaurant with an open kitchen, the waiter went straight to the counter by the kitchen.

Thanks to the death on the deck, most passengers weren’t going out, and the entertainment area felt deserted—this restaurant only had a handful of guests.

An older chef was simmering a pot of soup, his wrist bandaged—probably the chef who could handle fugu.

Two other chefs were busy prepping something else.

“What did they order?” Maybe out of boredom, the younger chef asked, bored with just reading tickets and making food.

The waiter shrugged, “Originally they wanted fugu, but since there’s none, they just ordered a sushi platter.”

“Fugu huh…” The younger chef nodded, then suddenly looked at the old chef, “By the way, chef, I checked the freezer this morning, and I think we’re missing a fugu.”

The old chef, stirring the soup pot, turned his head, “Missing?

There should be twelve.

Did you count carefully?”

“I did.

Just eleven now.”

“Eleven?

Maybe I remembered wrong?” The old chef frowned.

“I’ll check the delivery slip later.

Go ahead and make what the customer ordered first.”

“Sure thing.”

A little while later.

“Sir, madam, your sushi platter.” The waiter returned with the tray.

Luo Qiu smiled, “Could you pack it to go?

We’ll take it with us.”

“The handprints stop here…

Don’t tell me the guy dropped down from the ceiling?” Lin Feng looked up at the corridor ceiling.

Officer Ma shook his head, “If someone dropped down from above, do you think the ceiling would still be intact?

And with all the blood the victim lost, wouldn’t there be blood marks up there too?”

“Good point…” Lin Feng nodded, but was still puzzled.

“But the handprints start right here…

Did the guy just appear out of thin air?

There’s nothing on the tapes, it’s like this night’s magic!”

As he spoke, Lin Feng started knocking on the wall to the side.

“What are you knocking for?” Officer Ma looked confused.

Lin Feng replied, “Checking if there’s a secret door or something hidden.

Maybe the guy popped out from behind it?”

Officer Ma joined in, knocking here and there…

Being dragged along by Officer Ma, Flying Eagle watched them with an expression like he’d just spotted idiots.

Shaking his head, he said, “Sir, if there was a secret door here, it wouldn’t be built like this.”

“You got any smarter ideas?” Officer Ma shot Flying Eagle a look.

“Sir, how about you let go of me first, and I’ll give you a good one?

I promise I won’t run!” Flying Eagle grinned.

“If you don’t talk, I promise I won’t make things easy for you either,” Officer Ma said seriously.

Flying Eagle…

honestly, he’d never met anyone so shameless before!

“Uncle Ma, I knew you’d be here.”

Suddenly Luo Qiu’s voice came from nearby.

Officer Ma turned and saw Luo Qiu and You Ye walking over side by side, so he asked, “Luo Qiu, what are you doing here?

Weren’t you supposed to be with your aunt?”

Luo Qiu smiled, “I saw someone guarding the deck and figured you’d be here.

Then a police uncle saw me, didn’t say anything, just told me exactly where you were and let me in.”

Since there was a family connection, everyone on the team respected that brave man who’d given his life—they couldn’t help but show some kindness to his kid.

If Ren Ziling could e and go as she pleased, then Luo Qiu was pretty much the same.

Only, this kid almost never used his privilege, and never showed off…

That was exactly why Officer Ma felt a hundred times more at ease with Luo Qiu than he ever did with Ren Ziling.

“Yeah, her too.” Officer Ma shook his head.

“Well, you’re here now, no big deal.

There’s nothing worth seeing anyway.”

“Have something to eat.” Luo Qiu smiled, “Uncle Ma, you didn’t even get breakfast.

It’s already one in the afternoon, you must be starving.

Sushi platter.

Sound good?”

“Now that you mention it, I really am hungry.”

Officer Ma’s eyes lit up—he’d been doing hard labor all night since yesterday, and his stomach was totally empty.

Now he was starving; how could he resist?

“You’re the only one who treats me right!

If I had to rely on that woman of yours, she wouldn’t even give me a glass of water!” Officer Ma laughed as he accepted the takeout box from You Ye.

“Lin Feng, you eat, too.

Fill up so you can work!”

Watching these two officers sharing sushi, Flying Eagle couldn’t help but swallow…

He’d also spent all night and all morning on an empty stomach.

Not even a sip of water…

The cruelest thing in the world is being hungry, with food right in front of you and you’re not allowed any.

“Wanna eat?” Officer Ma grinned and offered Flying Eagle a piece of sushi.

Flying Eagle immediately reached out for it, but Officer Ma pulled his hand back and popped it into his own mouth, chewing happily.

…So cheap!

“Sir, I surrender, okay?

I’ll talk now.” Flying Eagle could only resign himself.

“I’ll tell you what I found, but you have to let me eat something, deal?”

“Go ahead, if it’s useful, you’ll get a reward.” Officer Ma nodded.

Flying Eagle glanced at the dwindling sushi and spoke quickly, “Sir, did you ever think, maybe Qian Guoliang didn’t start walking here?”

Officer Ma was stunned, “What do you mean?”

Flying Eagle pointed at the handprint, “The prints start here, but this spot is special—it’s a corner, where the camera can’t see, so it’s a blind spot.

You can only see Qian Guoliang appear from this spot, right?”

Flying Eagle pointed at a spot by the corridor heading to the deck, “From here is where you see Qian Guoliang show up on the footage, right?”

Officer Ma frowned…

Flying Eagle wasn’t wrong, that’s exactly how it looked on the surveillance tape.

But this guy hadn’t even watched it, yet he could figure that out… Definitely more than just a petty thief.

“And then?”

“Then, the palm prints don’t match.” Flying Eagle blurted out, “These bloody handprints look like they’re all in a row, but actually they’re two different prints—the palm patterns don’t match!”

This time, Flying Eagle pulled Officer Ma along to a door in the corridor—the one marked as the storeroom—and pointed at the prints on the door.

“From here, the marks leading to where Qian Guoliang appears at the corner are different from those leading to the deck.”

“Really?” Lin Feng was surprised.

He pressed his own hand against them and pared them front and back, then said, “You’re right, the length of the pinky area is different…

They really aren’t the same!

But how did you notice the palm patterns didn’t match?

You’ve got sharp eyes!”

Flying Eagle beamed, “Well?

Sir, wasn’t I right?

Can I eat now?”

Officer Ma snorted, stuffed the box into Flying Eagle’s hands, “Eat!

You earned it this time.”

Flying Eagle chuckled, his stomach getting the better of him, he opened the box without further ado—only to find a clump of mauled wasabi left, not even a scrap of sushi in sight.

The two officers next to him pretended not to notice, gazing up at the ceiling.

Officer Ma even burped, picking his teeth with his finger.

Flying Eagle…

Flying Eagle threw the box on the ground in frustration, tears streaming in the middle of a murder scene—as the bite of the wasabi he angrily stuffed in his mouth choked him.

So hungry.
