Chapter 809: Chapter 53: Don’t Lie

“… O Lord! I, a grievous sinner, have offended Thee. Now, for love of Thee above all things, I repent wholeheartedly for my sins, I repent wholeheartedly for my sins, I repent wholeheartedly for my sins, and I am resolute never to offend Thee again, hoping that Thou wilt pardon all my sins… Amen.”

[Chest Striking].

After one cycle, Charlotte once again clasped her hands, continuing to recite her penitential prayer in front of the crucifix. The repeated chest striking seemed incapable of cleansing the guilt within her heart.

The color of that fleeting skin lingered in her mind.

Until suddenly, the chapel door opened and Charlotte heard footsteps, startling her to her feet. It turned out to be Delan Mammy.

“Charlotte, my child, what is the matter? Why do you look so startled?” Delan Mammy approached Charlotte and gently pressed her forehead.

“Mammy, I… I can’t calm down.” Charlotte was truly ashamed to confess what she had done.

She felt that her sin might not only be unforgivable but might have worsened… because she was lying to Delan Mammy, who had always cared for, taught, and nurtured her.

“Poor child,” Delan Mammy forted softly.

She had raised Charlotte since infancy, when, years ago, the child was left at the monastery’s doorstep, now seventeen years had passed. How could Delan Mammy not realize Charlotte seemed to be hiding something?

But her philosophy of education didn’t prompt direct questioning. Instead, she changed the subject, “I added some oil to the motorbike and started it up. God bless, it can still be driven. After a while, take that child to the village clinic, and stop by the village police station to inquire if any children have gone missing recently.”

“Alright, Mammy,” Charlotte nodded.

But at that moment, Charlotte’s eyes suddenly widened, looking behind Delan Mammy, revealing an expression of shock and uncertainty—behind Delan Mammy was naturally the entrance of the chapel.

Delan Mammy followed Charlotte’s gaze.

At the chapel’s entrance, the unconscious little girl somehow awakened and was now standing there.

She was wearing an ill-fitting white blouse for women—a shirt that Charlotte had dressed her in, but the buttons were all unfastened. She was nearly naked, with just a thin shirt thrown over.

She walked slowly towards the two, her eyes blank.

The collar on her neck with half a chain hanging clinked crisply as she walked—she was even barefoot.

“Child, you’re awake?” Delan Mammy exclaimed joyfully.

But the girl seemed to hear nothing. She kept walking towards Delan Mammy and Charlotte without stopping.

This pelled Charlotte and Delan Mammy to step aside to let her pass—she walked straight to the crucifix, lifted her head to gaze at it, then remained motionless.

Delan Mammy and Charlotte had no idea what happened to the girl. They observed from the side and noticed something strange about her expression—she seemed to be struggling with something.

“Child, are you alright?” Delan Mammy gently placed her palm on the little girl’s shoulder, concerned.

But this action seemed to trigger a switch—the little girl’s expression suddenly turned fierce, but only for a moment, “Don’t touch me!”

She even swatted away Delan Mammy’s hand, but it wasn’t out of pain or anything—Delan Mammy’s hand stiffened merely from seeing the girl’s shocked expression.

The little girl looked baffled at her hand, clenched it tightly over and over—until finally, she suddenly swung it, fingers spread, aiming at the crucifix ahead, “Bang!”

“Bang!”

“Bang!”

“Die!!”

She said loudly several times, leaving Delan Mammy and Charlotte perplexed at what the girl intended to do—but without a doubt, she was doing something disrespectful.

“Child, don’t do this, you mustn’t be disrespectful to the Lord.” Delan Mammy’s face showed mild shock. She quickly pressed down the girl’s hand, grabbed her shoulders, and began to silently pray for forgiveness from the Lord due to the girl’s actions.

The little girl showed a pained expression as if her shoulders were burning, causing her to tremble.

“Don’t recite anymore!! Don’t recite!!” The little girl painfully broke free from Delan Mammy’s hands, and like one exhausted, fell to the ground.

Seeing this, Charlotte kindly helped the girl up.

But the girl now showed confusion, saying nothing, turning her head, and closing her eyes, then fell again, leaving Delan Mammy and Charlotte feeling strange.

The two discussed it, deciding to first take her to the village and have Charlotte buy some daily essentials.

The sidecar motorcycle roared along the village roads. Charlotte covered the little girl with a blanket, focusing wholeheartedly on driving.

The little girl’s eyes slightly opened a bit, then closed again without making a noise. However, when the sidecar motorcycle passed through a wavepath, the little girl suddenly threw aside the blanket and jumped off the vehicle, rolling down the wavepath.

Charlotte heard the noise, looked back, and happened to see this thrilling moment.

She hurriedly hit the brakes, unable to stop properly, and rushed to where the little girl had jumped off the vehicle. She looked down but couldn’t see anyone, prompting her to cry out in panic.

The body rolled, the world spun, and it was a long time before it finally stopped.

The little girl… Lucifer had never experienced such a terrible situation. The impact from rolling down the hillside felt like her body was being struck repeatedly by a giant hammer wielded by an ogre.

She reached up to touch her cheek, feeling a bit of moisture—blood oozing out from her face, likely cut by the sharp grass during the fall.

“To bee so vulnerable…” Lucifer frowned.

It wasn’t just now; not long ago in the hall, when the elderly nun tightly grabbed her hands, Lucifer had clearly realized how vulnerable she had bee.

The elderly nun was naturally not someone with strong divine power. She merely focused on praying for many years, and some divine characteristics naturally appeared on her. At best, she possessed a seed of divine power on her body, but it was the kind that wouldn’t sprout.

Yet, even so, during her prayers, she could still burn her own body.

Lucifer gritted her teeth, got up from the ground, and forcefully grabbed the collar around her neck, wanting to destroy it—clearly, her powerful strength was confined because of its existence.

“I never expected… Bucky didn’t go to the Lost Lands, but went to…”

Lucifer’s face showed a trace of annoyance and deep confusion, “That place, a hundred years ago, disappeared suddenly; how did it appear again… and e to this remote place?”

Dragging her injured body, she walked alone in the forest at the foot of the hill. Shortly after, Lucifer saw a lumberjack busy working.

The lumberjack seemed surprised to see such a little girl walking barefoot, but seeing her injured, he quickly came over, “Child, are you okay? What happened?”

Lucifer frowned, thinking that her movement was now inconvenient, her powers sealed, and she was no different from an ordinary human child.

However, as a devil, even without power, deception is still in her nature—though her pride disdained deceiving an ordinary person. Considering the current situation, however, there was really no choice.

“Uncle… I accidentally fell off the cliff, can you help me?”

“Poor child, e with me.” The lumberjack passionately picked up Lucifer, “What’s your name, where do you live?”

“My name is Lucy, I live in the village…” Lucifer replied without thinking, planning to have this lumberjack take her to a more populated place.

First—she needed to contact Charlotte.

But just as she finished speaking, Lucifer felt like her brain was about to explode, an eerie black flame was burning her Soul, causing her entire body to tremble.

“What’s… what’s wrong?” The lumberjack saw the little girl’s face suddenly turn pale, seemingly enduring some pain. He quickly put her down, not even questioning why she had a collar around her neck.

“I’m fine… Uncle, quickly take me to the village…” Lucifer gritted her teeth.

“Are you really okay?” The lumberjack frowned but still asked, “Where exactly does your family live? I need to take you home.”

“Just in the village… the first house in the front row of the village… ah!!!!”

Lucifer suddenly hugged her head tightly, rolling on the ground, the scorching heat within her Soul being more terrifying, almost giving her the feeling of melting.

“Child! Child!”

“I… I’m fine…” Lucifer gasped, shakily standing up, her face even paler. She stared at the lumberjack, countless thoughts flashed through her mind, and finally, she gritted her teeth and said: “I’m sorry… I lied, my home is not in the front of the village.”

“Ah?”

“Don’t ask me questions, take me to a crowded place… anyway, I’ll repay you!” Lucifer quickly said, and then pletely fainted.

Before losing consciousness, a thought flashed in Lucifer’s mind, filling her with frustration.

She had been given the ‘Punishment of Lies’.

Every time she lied, she would endure the punishment of Soul burning and intense headaches!

A dignified King of Hell… can only be an honest child??

Emmmm???
