“He didn’t say anything to force . He rely presented with a good marriage proposal for Shenley. However, that proposal ca from Lord Gem himself, and it was a good match by anyone's standard. It may be an aristocratic way of thinking, but declining it would be like declaring a clear hostile relationship.”
Marriage proposal. I blinked at the term.
“… Isn’t Shenley fourteen years old?” I turned to check.
Shenley nodded, albeit hesitantly. “I turned fourteen this year.”
I turned back to Aldo and instinctively sought confirmation. “Isn’t that too early?”
Aldo raised one eyebrow and tilted his head. “No, it’s average for a marriage proposal. In fact, it might even be considered late. Ideally, a child should be introduced to potential partners and influential figures from a young age. And if there is a chance they might beco the head of an upper noble family in the future, a proposal could even be settled before the age of ten.”
“… Ten years old.” I was left speechless upon hearing about the shocking reality of early marriage. I had never even considered such a possibility for myself, yet Shenley was apparently on the verge of engagent.
Suddenly, I felt my head beginning to throb, but I endured it and continued, “By any chance, is the proposal for Gem's son? No, considering Gem is in his fifties, it wouldn’t be strange for it to be for a grandson instead.”
Taking the earlier conversation into account, if his first child was born at eighteen, it wouldn't be surprising for him to have a grandchild around Shenley's age by the ti he turned forty. It wouldn’t be impossible, though not exactly common.
As I spiraled through these thoughts, Aldo glanced at Shenley and answered.
“It’s actually Gem himself. In other words, it’s a proposal with the current head of the Marquis Westath family. For a viscount family, this is undoubtedly the best match one can receive. Gem currently has about ten wives, so it’s certainly possible for him to father more children.”
He said this as if it were the most casual thing in the world.
At this mont, I felt my eyes narrow in anger. “Gem and Shenley getting married? That is unacceptable. First and foremost, it depends on Shenley's own will. If she wants to marry Gem, then I can’t stop her, but…”
With my voice raised slightly, I turned to Shenley. I found her with a pale face, drained of color. “Shenley doesn’t want to get married. Please decline the proposal.”
