Even though I was in the middle of my fight with him, my mind was still in turmoil.

I... I knew Clentine wasn’t gone.

But for a few monts, I thought she was.

Those monts, I never want to feel or experience again.

Despite that, all the rage I had been feeling was now directed at the powerful enemy in front of .

Kai.

An Angel who sides with the demons.

Our brief bout of silence ended the mont my body turned into red lightning, zipping through the air at a ridiculous speed and arriving in front of Kai.

He was very well prepared for my advance, eting my montum-filled downward slash by tilting his glaive at an odd angle and completely blocking my attack with the very tip of his glaive.

It was a masterful display of his skills.

The block pushed back slightly, and as I was about to engage once more, I saw Kai’s feather only a few inches away from my face.

The tip of the feather was sharpened and infused with his energy, appearing like it would deal so serious damage if it were to connect.

So I didn’t let it.

I brought my blade up, cleanly slicing the feather in two, and then engaging once more.

Crossing the distance in an instant, our weapons t, creating violent sparks that caused the nearby cathedral to shatter and the ceiling to fall.

But neither of us seed to care about the debris, as Kai rely brushed it off with his wings, and I lted it effortlessly.

We dashed, clashed, and moved throughout the cathedral, exchanging attacks and trying to one-up one another, causing the cathedral to eventually topple over as we took our fight into the citadel’s streets.

Arcs of lightning and purple energy disintegrated all the nearby demons, paladins, and whoever else got in our path.

CLANG!

CLANG!

Following one last exchange, we backed off and once again stared at each other.

I managed to cut him a few tis, though even with Pyrokinesis, he had already healed.

I was the sa.

And despite how close I thought it was... I was just too weak to actually take this fight further.

So no matter how long we fight, the outco would either be a stalemate or my loss.

But thankfully, I wasn’t alone.

Just then, from under the rubble, Clentine burst forth, her body fully covered in diamonds as thousands of silver Soul Weapons shot up from the ground, montarily surprising Kai.

He tossed a feather into the sky and teleported toward it.

But by then, I was already way above him, with my katana inching closer to his neck.

As I was about to slice his head clean off, the sa purple energy as before struck my katana, stopping my strike imdiately.

But I didn’t give up, as vast flas appeared behind , imitating fiery wings as I flapped them once, boosting my speed as my blade continued ahead and sliced into Kai’s shoulder.

His expression turned blank.

Then, he t my eyes and abruptly vanished.

Yet I traced his energy back to the top of the cathedral, which, despite all our destruction, still stood.

I took a deep breath and glanced down at Clentine.

"Hey... Are you okay?"

She nodded.

"I’m fine. It wasn’t that bad since I covered my body in diamonds in ti."

I exhaled a relieved breath, flew down to Clentine, rustled her hair slightly, then flew back toward the top of the cathedral.

"He’s not fighting with all his strength. I’m guessing he’s Grade 60, or maybe even Grade 65. Either way... He’s aiming for sothing."

"Did you get the pill?" she asked.

I shrugged and raised my finger with Vincent’s dinsional ring on it.

"I got sothing. Vincent put sothing inside, but I doubt it’s a pill, or whatever we’re looking for."

Seeing her so shaken by combat was a first for .

But I guess, with so many corpses surrounding us, I’m the only one who doesn’t feel a thing.

Even so, I took the lead, turning my body into red lightning and reappearing atop the cathedral.

To my surprise, Kai stood with his back turned toward .

He towered over the corpses of the Vermillions, then raised his hand.

Three feathers shot out and pierced the Vermillions’ bodies.

For a mont, nothing happened.

Just then, I felt a pulse of powerful energy from the bodies of the three Vermillions.

Their bodies wriggled slightly, and the tips of their fingers twitched.

A slightly longer spine grew out from their backs, then snapped onto their heads, pulling them back together like so weird chiras.

Their bones cracked as their bodies twisted, grabbing hold of their rapiers, and then ultimately standing upright.

With their overly long necks, they turned their heads toward and stared ominously.

"..."

Kai just brought them back to life.

Except he turned them into demons.

The mont I had that thought, Clentine landed beside .

Upon seeing the Vermillions looking like they did, she froze.

She opened and closed her mouth repeatedly, not finding the right words to say.

Kai let out a faint chuckle and turned around, eting my gaze.

"Isn’t it interesting the extent our Gifts can go to with enough practice? I an, just look at this. I’m basically one step away from creating life itself. I just have to work around creating these disgusting creatures first."

I narrowed my eyes.

"Is that your goal? Creating life?"

"Of course not. I don’t care about sothing so plain and lifeless. What I’m aiming for is a little bit beyond that."

Hearing that, it seed like I wouldn’t be able to get anything out of him.

Right as I was about to dash toward him again, I suddenly sensed sothing in his chest.

It was round and similar to a demonic core.

My eyes widened when I realized that it actually was a demonic core, and only then did I realize why he was so adamant about fighting and letting kill everyone around him.

The Demon Transformation Pill’s progress increased with every death.

More importantly, he has already consud it.

And when I glanced at the tir, my suspicions were confird.

[Ti Limit: 22:24]

Alas...

It seed like our confrontation was in its final phases.
