After a few hours of flying and mapping out the area to make sure I didn’t forget where to enter this place from, Clentine and I found ourselves on a mountain only a few kiloters away from Aldraazan.
The city was as lively and huge as I rembered. Though, for so reason, I spotted a dozen guards roaming around.
Was there so kind of official present?
"I think they’re hosting a party," Clentine said.
"A party?"
She nodded and then pointed at the palace at the very end of Aldraazan. Upon closer look, I saw exactly what she was talking about.
There were a few miniature dragon statues placed in front of the palace. Not only that, there was so kind of steam machine placed inside them that made them spew out colorful steam.
Aside from that, ordinary people ca and went as they pleased. Since that would normally not be possible, she was right.
There really was so kind of party or festival going on.
Nothing that I could rember, though.
But...
"I think if the main character gets a really good run and defeats so powerful demons, the emperor hosts a gala in his honor. This might be it."
"What’s a gala?"
"Just a more formal banquet or a party. They’d be celebrating his achievents, getting drunk, and whatever."
Clentine nodded.
"So what’s the plan, then? Do you want to kidnap Kevin and the others?"
A bead of sweat ran down my forehead.
"Maybe not...? Let’s first et with the headmaster. I want to ask him so questions. And if anything, I was thinking of turning him into your Soul Knight. Actually, a Soul Mage, maybe?"
"I’d like that, but let’s maybe not do that? He’s Grade 60, and even though we’re powerful, I have a bad feeling about him. I think we’d lose if we were to fight him."
"..."
Well, she’s not wrong.
His Space Manipulation Gift is at the Grandmaster rank, if not higher.
As it stands, he could probably flick his finger, bypass my defenses, and decapitate .
So she’s right.
"Okay. Then let’s go in for a normal chat."
Though I’m guessing it’s going to be far from normal, especially when he realizes that the fragnt he had put inside my heart is no longer there.
Speaking of...
"He just locked onto us."
"Did he really?"
I nodded and followed the headmaster’s energy straight into his office. Like always, his office was neat and tidy, with not a single speck in sight. And despite him just locking onto us, he looked oblivious.
Well, I might as well make this short.
I extended my hand, and Clentine grabbed it.
In an instant, our figures turned into black lightning and teleported toward the single spark of lightning I had conjured inside the headmaster’s office.
Upon reappearing, our figures scorched his carpet and even blew away the paperwork he had been doing. Yet despite that, the headmaster didn’t even budge an inch as he grabbed the next set of papers and continued scribbling.
Clentine narrowed her eyes as hatred flared in them. She clearly didn’t like him after I told her just what kind of man he was.
"Amon Everness and Clentine Noir. It’s a pleasure to see you two again."
He didn’t even look up from his paper.
How disrespectful.
"Mind if I call you Ariston?" I asked.
"Call whatever you’d like. Ariston is my surna. Alexius is my na."
Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
Anyhow...
"You don’t seem that surprised to see us. Were you waiting for us?"
He stopped writing and raised his head.
"Regardless of my intent, you would have been called back next week. You have soone you need to et, after all."
Hearing that, I tried to quickly connect the dots in my mind, and although I wasn’t sure if I was correct, I had an inkling that the headmaster, as well as the retainer I’m supposed to et soon, are connected.
"On that note, I see you’ve removed the fragnt from within your heart. That’s pretty impressive that you managed to accomplish that, but if you want to remain in our good graces, then I’m afraid you’ll have to consu another one."
"Pfft... Is that right?"
I cocked my head back, and right as I was about to continue speaking, I spotted nearly ten Holy Knights erge from the floor and surround the headmaster. They pointed their swords at his neck. Not only that, a thin needle hung just above his head, ready to pierce him and his soul at any mont.
"Choose your next words carefully."
At Clentine’s cold words, the headmaster paused for a mont.
He looked slightly amused, which was weird since he shouldn’t have emotions.
Just then, I felt a powerful surge of energy swell up inside his chest and then abruptly burst outward. It took the form of a dark purple spear that seed to ignore all the Holy Knights, separating their bodies in two and ultimately arriving in front of Clentine.
In the fraction of a second, I saw Clentine cover her body in diamonds. Yet I had no intention of letting Alexius even touch her skin, so I enveloped his attack in Telekinesis.
To my genuine surprise, I felt so kind of connection to this purple energy, and when I looked further, I realized it reminded of the spatial pull I had felt back when I was draining the black hole out of Rachel’s body.
It was very familiar.
And my Telekinesis seed to think that as well.
★★★Telekinesis [Master] (Lv.1 → Lv.2)
With a single thought, I overpowered Alexius’s energy, causing his attack to significantly slow down.
And with one final thought, I used Atomic Destabilization to turn his whole attack to dust as all of the energy inside it scattered.
Clentine narrowed her eyes and moved her severed Holy Knight to where the majority of the energy had scattered. Just then, her Holy Knight regenerated, and instead of the usual silver, its sword was now completely purple.
Almost like she had just forced it to absorb Alexius’s energy to regenerate instead of her own.
It was impressive.
But this interaction also told one thing.
I could counter Alexius, since our energies were so similar.
And since I had much more energy than him, as well as Clentine and Morr to help ...
We might actually be able to kill him here.
