"Tsk. Kevin, just get out of the way already. We told you we’d cooperate, but we didn’t agree to sharing our food with so filthy injured commoners."

He pointed past , at the dead woman.

"I an, just look at her. She was blind, so even if we survive this sohow, she’s just going to walk over a ditch and crack her head open. Killing her is a blessing."

How...?

I’ve always lived my life thinking soone could be saved. Even though my grandpa was a traitor... I believed in his ideologies.

No one deserved to die, since if they did die, they could never repent for all the bad stuff they did.

But how can I just stand here and let soone like this be...? If I beat him up and then move aside, he’ll just recover and do the sa again. He might even do worse.

I tightened my grip over my blade and took a step forward. The noble’s eyes widened slightly, but the previously arrogant smirk soon returned.

"What? You’re going to attack in front of everyone? Please, try it. I’ll show you just what happens when you attack a noble."

For a brief mont, I hesitated. But then I heard the daughter’s sobs behind , which made stop hesitating. I drew my sword and then placed it on the noble’s neck, drawing a little bit of blood. For so reason, I couldn’t push further, almost like sothing, or rather soone, was stopping .

And once I blinked once, the face of an old dark-haired man appeared in place of the noble’s face, making my blood run cold.

It was the face of my grandfather.

His eyes were bloodied, and his skin was slightly decomposed. Yet, he was just smiling at , causing my stomach to churn and my hand that held my sword to tremble.

I couldn’t finish the slash...

I couldn’t kill this man.

...If only soone—

SWOOOOOSH!

A foot suddenly appeared out of nowhere, striking the edge of my blade and forcing to accidentally cleave straight through the noble’s head, killing him instantly.

I watched his head fall with a stunned look, and once it hit the ground and his blood began to spurt out his neck, I turned to the side, spotting lina with her leg raised at head level, and her expression cold.

Just then, the two of us locked eyes, and she finally lowered her leg. She approached , and before I could even utter a single word, she slapped across the face, causing the sword to fly out of my hand as I just grabbed my cheek and stared at her in shock.

As for lina, she just cocked her head back and stared at with disgust.

"If that guy went ahead and killed , would you just stand there, thinking over your morals while my lifeless corpse is at your feet?"

"I..."

"Kevin."

She took a step forward and raised her hand, as if she was about to slap .

But instead, she placed her hand on my shoulder, patting it slightly.

"So long as you’re like this, you’re a liability, and I don’t want to trust my back to soone like you. So when we’re fighting, make sure to stay as far away from as possible, yeah?"

"..."

I felt like a lump had ford in my throat, and even my heart began to ache as her painful words kept echoing in my ears.

But then again... everything she just said was the truth. I really was pathetic. Because of my hesitation, I’d get lina, Isabelle, and even the others killed.

What am I even doing...?

"Alright, whatever. Yo. Everyone who’s still alive, minus the nobles who we’re going to leave for demon food. Get your ass into the special classroom. Isabelle and a special guest will give you a rundown on what’s happening."

At lina’s words, everyone quickly nodded and began making their way out of the auditorium. Everyone, except the startled nobles, and the sobbing child who held her mother, ran out.

The nobles imdiately began to complain and riot, but lina was not having any of it.

"Shut up, you arrogant pricks."

The mont she uttered those words, every single noble froze, and despite them moving their mouths, no words were coming out.

Not only that, their faces soon began to turn purple, almost like they couldn’t breathe anymore. Within just a few seconds, noble after noble began to fall, their eyes wide in terror, and their Gifts weakly flailing around, trying to hit lina, but failing.

And eventually, once the last noble lifelessly fell to the ground, lina put both her hands on her hips and scoffed.

"What a shit-show. Kill everyone who acts like that. Don’t even think of ever sparing trash like that, since they’ll never change. They’ll just make life harder for everyone, including us. Anyhow, let’s see here..."

lina trailed off and approached the sobbing daughter.

"Hey there, kiddo. Mind moving aside for a sec?"

"Sniffle... B-But mama is..."

"Mommy’s going to be just fine, dear. But only if you give a mont to talk to her, okay?" lina said with a warm smile.

The child just stared at her for a mont, tears running down her eyes. She didn’t want to separate from her mother, but she was also mature enough to realize what happened to her.

So with shaky and reluctant steps, she stood up from her mother, then plopped down onto the ground beside her. Curling up in a ball, her sobs continued.

Every sniffle and every sob seed to scratch at my heart and the back of my neck... making realize that all of this could’ve been avoided had I acted way earlier.

I had a feeling that the nobles would do sothing like this.

...But I also genuinely thought that because of the demons, they’d realize killing each other would get us all killed.

Yet once again, I was wrong.

However, as I was lost in my own guilt, lina suddenly tapped the forehead of the woman and then took a deep breath.

"Let’s revive you, shall we?"
