I dressed up and stepped out of the room I had been staying in. I was t with a long hallway, decorated in all sorts of golden sets of armor. Each one was different from the others. Not to ntion, each one had a set of scars and scratches over it.
A few even had so dents and holes. I an... It’s probably because so of these smartasses actually wore gold to a fight. Gold was a terrible material to even make armor out of, unless you planned on just displaying it.
Maybe they gave these armor sets to fodder so they could get so wear and tear in the back lines? Whatever the case may be, I wasn’t that interested.
Instead, I was more interested in what I had found at the end of the hallway. It was none other than a giant window that overlooked the city below. It was beautiful, to say the least.
Not only that, it was clear I was back in Helheim. Judging by the height, I was also in the royal palace. The last thing I wanted was to get on the radar of these Demon Royals. They were so much weaker than the Demon Kings and Demon Emperors, but their arrogance was much higher.
As I thought I’d be left alone for a little while longer, I suddenly heard a pair of footsteps resounding from behind . I thought it was Morr, but when I slightly turned my head, I was t with an unexpected guest.
rilyn.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
She narrowed her eyes. "I might not be as strong as Wilhelm, but I’m also considered your retainer, you know?"
"I see... Then as my retainer, tell how long has passed since the raid?"
"..."
"Only two weeks," rilyn replied. She approached a little closer and then stopped beside . She glanced through the window as well, her expression distant and hard to make out.
"Do you plan to escape from here?"
I raised a brow.
"Does that sound like sothing I’d want to answer?"
She shrugged. "I’m asking as rilyn. Not as your retainer."
Mmm... That didn’t really make it any better. So I decided to just hold my tongue for the mont and continue staring at the city.
In reality, I was focused on my Mystic Eyes, allowing them to scan the entire city. I was looking for Clentine, since maybe there was a small chance she was looking for too. But obviously, it was a little too much of a fever dream, as she wouldn’t recklessly endanger herself, especially if Aliyah was right beside her.
She’s smart.
Both of them are.
I nodded to myself and then closed my eyes, cancelling my Mystic Eyes. Then, I glanced over to rilyn.
"Since you’re allowed here, I take it you know what I’m supposed to be doing now?"
She slowly nodded. "Yes. You’ll be eting with the other saviors soon, and you’ll be going through a trial befitting your cri."
"Which cri is that?" I questioned.
"You were responsible for the killing of four Demon Kings. You personally killed one Demon King. Not to ntion, Wilhelm was very heavily injured because of you, and he has yet to wake up from his coma."
Huh...
Well, I could understand the first two parts, since I did kill that succubus, and if not for holding Wilhelm back, the other Demon Kings would still be alive.
But Wilhelm was very heavily injured? How could that even happen? I lost consciousness, and I’m assuming the others did too. It seed like a load of bullshit ant to just incriminate further, but judging by how serious rilyn seed, it might actually not be a joke.
"So what happens if I just choose to run away?"
She shrugged. "There are four Demon Emperors on each side of the city. There’s also twenty Demon Kings scattered all around the palace and the outer edges of the city. There are anti-energy barriers erected everywhere, so you won’t be able to use your energy beyond a couple hundred ters."
Afterwards, she pointed at my forehead.
"Teleporting a few hundred ters won’t allow you to escape, so please don’t even try it."
"Hmm..."
Yeah.
While I could go on a rampage and wipe out a few Demon Kings, the Demon Emperors would still beat my ass pretty badly. But what if I tapped into my Divine Energy reserves? That would give a big increase in power, and then I might be able to actually do sothing.
"I know that look on your face. Don’t try anything silly. Just co with to the courtroom. I promise that whatever trial you face, it won’t be the death penalty, or any sort of servitude. They’re likely trying to—"
"I know. They’re probably going to try slapping a title of a Demon King or Demon Emperor onto my na," I cut her off with a sigh. "It’s a bit of an annoying deal... Does this palace have any underground tunnels?"
"For imps and dwarves, yes. You’re not an imp or a dwarf. You wouldn’t fit even if you tried to squeeze through," she replied nonchalantly.
Then, she turned around.
"Follow , Amon."
With that, she began walking away. I stared at her back for a few monts, and after realizing that there really was no concrete way out of this, I decided to just roll with it and see where this charade takes .
I followed after her down several flights of spiraling stairs. The staircases were slightly outside of the palace and covered with glass, allowing to get a 360 degree view of the whole city. If only this city wasn’t infested with demons, then it’d be a little bit more beautiful.
Still, we got down to the ground floor, passed by a few Demon Dukes who were guarding the entrance to the palace, and at long last, the two of us arrived at a thick door.
Beyond it, I could hear a lot of chattering. I could even feel plenty of powerful presences there.
"Are you ready?"
Welp...
Here goes nothing, I guess.
