Xiqiu and a few others stood at the door, hesitating whether to enter.
The sobbing inside the room grew louder, choking out: "First Young Madam, I’ve been serving in the mansion since I was a child, and now I’ve co of age. I beg you, please let go, I... I have no face to stay in the mansion anymore."
Xiqiu was stunned; this voice...
It was Daihe.
She had always been by Lady’s side, very capable these past few years. Why was she suddenly asking to be let go?
Tong Xiyang’s eyes showed a look of sarcasm, slightly curling up her lips as she turned to look at Tong Xiyan.
Tong Xiyan’s face went stiff, and instead of stopping, her pace quickened slightly. She strode in, calling out: "Sister-in-law."
The crying inside the room ca to an abrupt halt.
Xiqiu felt helpless and could only follow and enter the door.
A young maid ca out to lift the curtain for the three, and Xiqiu followed Tong Xiyan inside.
They saw Madam Jiang sitting upright on the kang, smiling at them and saying, "Why have you co at this hour? Have you been to see Father?" She then turned to Nanny Qiu and said, "Quickly brew so tea for the three ladies. Third Lady likes Laojun i, Fourth Lady likes black tea, and Sixth Lady loves Longjing."
Nanny Qiu responded with a beaming smile and left.
They didn’t see Madam Jiang!
Xiqiu and the others saluted Madam Jiang, and Xiqiu smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, there’s no need to trouble yourself. We’ll just sit for a while and leave!"
They sat down on the chairs.
They saw Daihe quickly wiping her eyes at the side, unable to avoid it. She awkwardly saluted the three and called out, "Third Lady, Fourth Lady, Sixth Lady."
Tong Xiyan gave Daihe a deep look. She was a maid by her mother’s side, yet now she ran to her sister-in-law to complain. Could it be that her mother had done sothing to wrong her?
Tong Xiyan was slightly displeased!
"What’s the matter with Daihe, her eyes all red?" Tong Xiyang, full of concern, asked with a smile.
Now that Madam Wang was gone, as long as Lady was alive, she couldn’t expect anything from this family, so she increasingly did not need to care about others.
Daihe’s face froze, she opened her mouth but didn’t say anything, while Madam Jiang glanced over and smiled, saying: "Her father in her family is ill, clinging to life now. She wants to leave the mansion to serve him, but Lady cannot do without her, so she ca to plead with ." When she finished, she looked at Daihe and said: "Get on with your work. You have always been soone Mother can rely on; the house can’t do without you. I will have soone handle things at ho, and send so Silver back. Don’t think too much about anything else; focus on serving Madam well, and there will be benefits for you."
Tong Xiyang sneered. Soone sick to this extent should have died to end the matter. Did she still think the First Master could stay in the room to look at her more?
"Yes!" Daihe replied, her face ashen, bowed to everyone, and hurried out the door.
Nanny Qiu brought tea with a young maid.
Tong Xiyan’s mood also sank, thinking about Lady’s health. Now that Daihe had set aside Lady and pled with Madam Jiang, she had no interest in speaking and left Madam Jiang’s side after exchanging a few words: "I am going to see Mother."
Madam Jiang instructed Nanny Qiu to escort Tong Xiyan out.
Tong Xiyang only sneered while drinking tea on the side.
Xiqiu said to Madam Jiang: "You don’t seem to be showing, Sister-in-law. Are there any symptoms?" Madam Jiang sighed: "It might be because it’s my first ti. It was fine a few days ago, but the sll of anything makes uncomfortable now; I can even throw up bile. I don’t dare to leave the room, much less eat anything; even drinking water is a struggle!"
"How can that be? This is the ti when you need nutrition the most." Xiqiu furrowed her brows, worried, and asked: "Have you consulted a physician, what did they say?"
Madam Jiang, talking, perhaps caught a whiff of the fragrant powder on Tong Xiyang, covered her mouth and bent over to retch again. Nanny Qiu quickly handed her a spittoon, soothing her back. Fearing the two ladies might misunderstand, she hurriedly explained: "Perhaps I just ca from the kitchen and have the sll on ." Looking at Madam Jiang with concern: "Quick, drink so water to suppress it."
Madam Jiang retched for a long ti, her face pale, resting against Nanny Qiu, waving her hand: "No, drinking it just makes it worse."
Tong Xiyang looked at her, thinking of the child she lost a few days ago, her expression darkened further. Xiqiu glanced at her and sighed inwardly, seeing Tong Xiyang had already stood up, smiling: "The room has a lot of people, I’ll go out and wait for Sixth Sister." Then she looked at Madam Jiang: "Sister-in-law, take good care of yourself."
Madam Jiang couldn’t stand the sll, but she couldn’t tell Tong Xiyang to leave. Now that she wanted to leave on her own, she didn’t urge her to stay, just instructed a young maid: "Accompany Third Lady for a walk in the courtyard, the roses in the front corner are blooming."
Tong Xiyang nodded to her and left.
Madam Jiang sighed and told Xiqiu: "I’ve consulted several physicians, and they all say about the sa. I’ve taken the prescribed dicine, but it hasn’t helped much. They only say it will get better after two months; there’s no harm to the body if we’re careful."
Nausea doesn’t affect the body much, but if the vomiting is severe and one cannot eat, inevitably lack of nutrition could affect the child’s developnt. Xiqiu thought for a mont and suggested: "Why not have an Imperial Physician check again? They regularly check the pulse of the ladies in the palace, they must have so insights not common outside."
Madam Jiang waved her hand: "I’ve called for an Imperial Physician, and they offered so thods. It was better for a couple of days, but today it started again."
Xiqiu had no solution, looking at her with a worried face, advised: "Regardless of the nausea, you must eat. It’s essential to eat whatever you can!" There’s no other choice but this clumsy thod.
"Yes." Madam Jiang nodded, giving a weak smile: "My mother says the sa, eat again after vomiting, so will stay down eventually!"
After a few more words, Xiqiu stood up and said to Madam Jiang: "You should rest, there’s nothing much happening with Father. I’m going to see concubine."
Knowing that she visits Madam Xia every ti she returns, Madam Jiang let Nanny Qiu see her out.
As she ca out, she found it unprecedented that Tong Xiyang was waiting at the courtyard gate for her, and Xiqiu was taken aback, secretly surprised.
Tong Xiyang cast a cold glance at her and turned to walk ahead. The unfamiliar maid following her automatically stepped aside, and when Xiqiu saw the maid, she thought of Tong Xiyang’s maids Liuzhi and Xiuyun. During a visit to Wujin Bo Mansion, Liuzhi was confined due to pregnancy, and Xiuyun had styled her hair like a concubine. Now that the maid beside her was replaced, she wondered how Xiuyun was doing.
She didn’t ask Tong Xiyang anything but walked behind with Bihuai and Biwu. As they reached the small garden in front of Lady’s yard, Tong Xiyang suddenly turned to look at her, wanting to say sothing but stopped, revealing a hesitant look, then abruptly swung her sleeve and walked off quickly.
