Lord Marius dragged Lady Cadelaria through the corridors, ignoring the shocked stares of employees and residents that were standing or sitting around.
None of the onlookers could hide their shock. Lady Cadelaria had always seed so untouchable, nothing she did was considered wrong. Everything she said was right. But today, she was being dragged out of the building, shrieking and fighting.
"You are embarrassing !" She shrieked.
Lord Marius ignored her, his grip on her am tight like iron. "Quiet," he growled, dragging her past startled guards.
She sputtered, scandalized, but he shoved her into the car with a force that left no argunt. The door slamd, the driver started the engine and the screaming match began.
"You humiliated !" she shrieked, clutching her necklace like a stage actress. "Barking at in front of the elders! Dragging like a sack of grain in front of everyone--"
"Humiliation should be the last of your worries." His voice thundered. "You are the one humiliating yourself. Do you even realize what you have done? Do you see how your actions are ruining this family? Your attitude towards Sienna has poisoned everything. We used to live under one roof as a family, and now we can’t see our grandchildren whenever we wish because of you!"
Her eyes widened, tears springing forth on command. "Mari, why are you blaming for everything? That girl is oversensitive. She was the one with the bad attitude in the beginning. All I have made is a little comnt here and there, a joke--"
"Joke?" He slamd the front seat, which happened to be the driver’s chair. The car swerved slightly, and quickly set back on course. "You call fat-shaming sly remarks a joke? Because you say such filth, people in the tribe are starting to follow your lead. They whisper words like Chubby charms, fat roll, at ball. It is not a joke, it is cruelty. I warned you before, but I was gentle about it and that is where I made a mistake because you don’t take seriously. You don’t take our son’s polite requests to stop harassing his wife seriously. Well he has had enough too, like He told plainly yesterday: get you in line, or he won’t allow his family around us again. I for one am not losing my son."
Lady Cadelaria dabbed at her eyes with a lace handkerchief, voice trembling. "How can you both turn on like this? Everything I do is for the sake of our family. All I have ever wanted is for our son to live up to his potential. To have a wife that fit for him. Look at the queen, she is the perfect match for the king. Elias is equal in strength to the king, why can’t he have a wife who---"
Marius growled loudly, claws scratching the back of the seat in front. "Do you rember what happened to the last family with a son who compared himself to the forr king in strength and wisdom? That family vanished at sea, every last one of them. Do you want the sa fate to befall our son? Your careless tongue could doom us all at this rate."
She gasped, clutching her chest dramatically. "I didn’t an--"
"You never an," he snapped, "But you always make a ss that I am forced to clean up. You started a war with our daughter-in-law that is about the estrange us from our son, our grandchildren and the royal family. You are even dragging the whole clan into the web of your venom. I won’t stand for it. I won’t let you ruin the fox clan because you are too foolish to accept reality."
Her sobs grew louder, echoing in the car like a tragic opera. "You are being cruel to . This is not what you promised when you asked to marry you."
He barked a bitter laugh. "Cruel? I am simply telling you the truth. Cruel is what you have been to Sienna. You have mocked her body, her looks, her family, her background, her very existence. And then you wonder why she refuses you to be around her children? You complain about why she moved far away. It was because she wanted peace. You drove her to exile."
She tugged at him, trying to pout. "I only wanted what was best for our son Mari...."
"The best?" He leaned closer, voice low and dangerous. "The best would have been supporting Elias’s choices which ant supporting Sienna after she proved that she had changed. Not tearing her down. The best would have been embracing her and showing her the ropes, not treating her like an intruder. I do my part for this family as the patriarch, why can’t you do the sa as the matriarch? You have failed this family, you have failed Elias. You have your grandchildren. You have failed . I made you promises when I married you and you made promises too. A good ho with warmth and love. Where is it Laria?" She slamd his hand into the front seat. "Where is it? Whatever this is, I don’t want it anymore."
Her tears faltered, replaced by a flicker of fear. "What do you an? You wouldn’t...you wouldn’t leave ."
She straightened, "Wouldn’t I? Must I be condemned to a life of bitterness with you? Should I be forced to live an estranged life from all my children and grandchildren just because of your an choices? Wake up Laria, the rest of our children are worried about your treatnt of Sienna. If it will be extended to their partners if they are not as perfect as you want.
It was ignorable in the beginning but it has beco so poisonous and frightening. You have changed into soone none of us recognize. Soon, all of our children will seek to live as far from us as they can.
We are not young anymore Laria. We are at the age to enjoy our grandchildren and watch our children build their families. If you can’t do that with , then I am putting divorce is on the table. Apologize to Sienna and Elias and change your behavior or it’s over. I refuse to live the rest of my life chained to bitterness."
Cadelaria gasped, scandalized. "Divorce? You would dare!"
"Oh, I dare," he said coldly, "I have tolerated your tantrums, your gossip, your an streak. But I won’t tolerate losing my children and grandchildren because of you. This is your ultimatum: apologize, work on yourself, or we are finished."
The care screeched to a halt outside the gates of the hospital that was under heavy guard. This ended their argunt.
Marius turned to her, eyes blazing. "Choose wisely."
