On the afternoon of July 13th, Yi Weimin and Yi Weijun arrived in Huaixi County, having brought all the necessary materials for job recruitnt, and they had dinner in Bright Alley.

In the evening, the three Yi brothers followed Ding Ancheng and Yi Roujing to the staff quarters of County First Middle School.

"Roujing, Ancheng is really impressive. At his age, he can already get such a nice couple’s room," Yi Weijun marveled. He was two years older than Ding Ancheng, yet looking at others’ achievents made him realize that people simply can’t be compared.

"He led his students to win first place in the provincial math competition and will later take them to Jing City for the national competition," explained Yi Roujing. "Because he brought such honor to the school, the school leaders made an exception for him."

"Going to Jing City, huh," Yi Weimin said, surprised. "When are you going?"

"In the fall, around September or October, but the exact competition date hasn’t been set yet," replied Ding Ancheng with a smile.

Yi Roujing was a bit surprised. She had heard that they were supposed to attend a national math competition soon, so why hadn’t they gone yet? "Won’t it affect the quota for Worker, Peasant, Soldier University for the third-year students?"

"I’m guiding the second-year students," Ding Ancheng explained.

"I see," Yi Roujing said, suddenly understanding. No wonder he didn’t involve himself in either her graduation ceremony or matters concerning the third-year students; he was actually leading the second-year students.

"Then next year, the County First Middle School should have more slots for Worker, Peasant, Soldier University, right?" Yi Roujing said with a smile.

"Hope so," Ding Ancheng replied, a hint of emotion touching his heart.

Yi Weimin and Yi Weijun had never stayed in a place with its own toilet. An individual squat toilet with a water tank behind it, and just pulling the string would flush it clean. It was so clean, yet the two felt a bit constrained because of it.

Yi Weiliang, though it was also his first ti staying here, found it quite similar to the house in Bright Alley. He was as adaptable as a fish to water, and comforted his two older brothers as well.

"Thank you for your hard work tomorrow," Yi Roujing said, already washed up and lying in bed. Ding Ancheng only had classes in the afternoon, so he would take Yi Weimin to the power plant in the morning to apply for the job recruitnt.

Yi Weijun would be accompanied by Yi Weiliang to the food factory, so they didn’t need to worry about him.

The next day, the five people woke up early and had breakfast in Bright Alley. Ding Anguo and Ding Anmin had already prepared rice porridge, bought fried dough sticks and at buns from the state-run restaurant, and cut a plate of pickles—a quite sumptuous breakfast made with the thought that this was Yi Weimin and Yi Weijun’s first visit, and the first breakfast couldn’t be modest.

After breakfast, the family mbers went their separate ways, and the entire house quieted down.

At this ti, it was the start of the workday. The streets were filled with people riding bicycles or walking, most of them wearing work uniforms, each full of vigor. The two Yi brothers watched eagerly but felt the sa unease, thinking they didn’t fit in with the rest.

"Eldest Brother, Second Brother, it’ll get better in a while; everyone is like this at first," Yi Weiliang said with a smile.

Yi Roujing found it amusing. Yi Weiliang was soone with a relatively carefree disposition. He was more curious, and when it ca to feeling inferior, there wasn’t much to speak of. As an outgoing person, everyone really liked him, and he had quickly assimilated into the transport departnt—Master Niu even had him drive outside.

Now when the transport departnt sent out vehicles, Yi Weiliang would go along to learn the roads, because knowing the roads was essential for driving independently later. No one would like to partner with you if your colleagues still had to guide your way.

The transport departnt typically undertook long routes; even though most were within the province, the drivers paired up on each trip, taking turns driving to prioritize safety.

At a fork in the road, the group parted ways. Down the left road were only Yi Weimin and Ding Ancheng. Honest by nature, Yi Weimin followed Ding Ancheng silently towards the power plant.

In truth, Yi Weimin was a bit worried. Thinking about it, he hesitated but then finally spoke up, "Ancheng, actually, at my age, most factories don’t want apprentices this old. If I don’t make it, just let it go; don’t trouble yourselves further."

"Brother-in-law, you’re only thirty. If you do well, you could master the necessary electrician skills in just a year or two, after which it’s about accumulating experience—learning by doing. Many people throughout history have only reached their peak as they got older; it’s quite normal to succeed later in life," Ding Ancheng reassured him.

Yi Weimin was stunned as he listened. He hadn’t received much education, but due to his grandfather’s influence, all the children in the family were mandated to learn to read and write. Even if they stopped attending school, they had to keep practicing, and even if their writing was poor, they had to write. Back when his grandfather was alive, he used to check on them, but after he passed, Yi Weimin admittedly hadn’t written much since.

Even though Yi Weimin could still recognize so characters, he couldn’t understand the four-character sayings that Ding Ancheng was using.

"Brother-in-law, don’t worry too much," Ding Ancheng said, changing his approach. "Since you’ve considered the worst-case scenario, just focus on the interview and recruitnt process. Demonstrate everything you can do and express your ambition. If you get in, work hard to beco an electrician, and if not, we’ll find you another suitable job."

Yi Weimin smiled and nodded after hearing this, feeling comforted. This interaction marked his first one-on-one conversation with Ding Ancheng, and it seed that he really liked Roujing; otherwise, he wouldn’t be so encouraging.

Ding Ancheng led Yi Weimin straight into the power plant. Although the gatekeeper felt the two appeared unfamiliar, he refrained from approaching due to Ding Ancheng’s deanor. However, Ding Ancheng approached the gatekeeper to ask for directions.

"Excuse , sir, could you tell how to get to the human resources departnt of the power plant?" Ding Ancheng asked in a calm manner.

"Oh, you’re here for the recruitnt?" The gatekeeper laughed and gave directions, saying, "Just follow the crowd, with those wearing shirts and trousers; they’re all heading to work together."

"Thank you," Ding Ancheng said before leading Yi Weimin to the destination. "Brother-in-law, I’ll take you to the HR departnt, and I’ll wait for you outside."

"Okay, okay," Yi Weimin replied with a smile, nodding repeatedly.

Once they reached the office building, Ding Ancheng found out where the HR office was and had Yi Weimin go inside while he waited at the door.

Yi Weimin was very anxious, but upon entering, he noticed quite a few people were present, so holding docunts like him. Thinking they must be in a situation similar to his, he approached and asked, "Excuse , comrade, could you tell who I should submit the apprentice electrician recruitnt docunts to?"

He addressed a young woman around twenty years old. Her brow furrowed as she glanced at Yi Weimin’s dark, rough hands that held the docunts, showing a trace of disdain.

"Mister, you must have co to the wrong place. We’re recruiting apprentice electricians, not electricians. Aren’t you a bit too old to be an apprentice?"

As soon as the young woman finished speaking, many around burst into laughter, leaving Yi Weimin embarrassed in the midst. "You don’t recruit soone my age?"
