_______

I looked at the stats: strength, agility, endurance... they were areas that were less developed. My mana was slightly okay, the problem was that my body was not able to support a higher level of power. If I wanted to be up to what was coming, I would have to improve my physical condition, but ti was not enough yet, the best option would be to increase them with the help of the system.

The first incident was already close. That date that I feared so much would be like an indelible scar if I did nothing. There was no turning back. I knew what awaited , I could not deceive myself. Ignorance had long ceased to be an option. Although fear tried to cling to , I could not give up, I knew that many students would die and I did not want to carry that weight.

"I need to prepare myself," I said quietly.

The system screen flickered before , inviting to act. Without thinking, I touched the "Conversion" option. In the blink of an eye, the 34,000 POINTS I had saved disappeared like sand blown by the wind, transforming into 17 HP (status points). Now, I needed sothing that would allow to stay on my feet, even when my strength seed to abandon . The system that offered an alternative would improve my physical performance considerably. It was not cheap, but at this mont, it did not matter. Survival had a price.

I quickly raised my strength stats to the next level, feeling a mysterious energy run through my body. My muscles grew a little, my skin tightened, and I faintly felt sothing awakening inside . It wasn’t just physical, it was much deeper, a connection to the world perhaps. But I couldn’t stop there.

Agility. I went up 5 HP. At that mont, I felt a gentle breeze surround , my body seed to beco lighter, with faster and more fluid movents.

The system was shining, but my mind was focused on the next priority.

Endurance. I couldn’t leave anything to chance. I added another 5 HP. I felt my body getting stronger, as if my skin acquired a hardness it had never had before, my heart beat with the force of a war drum, and a small change was felt in my bones. Perhaps firr.

I paused for a mont, the desire to increase my mana (magic power) passing through my head, though I wanted to focus on other stats. Finally, I couldn’t resist the temptation, I gave it 3 more HP. My magic power grew even more, but only by a small amount. Still, I felt a deeper connection to the energies around . The air itself seed to contain tiny fragnts of mana, as if the world, even for a mont, responded to my wishes.

Without hesitation, my fingers slid across the interface quickly, wanting to check how much I had improved. The "Stats" section appeared before , and a sense of accomplishnt filled my chest.

"Finally..." I said quietly, letting the tension in my body begin to dissipate. I had managed to balance my strength. I took one last look at the stats, took a deep breath, and felt my muscles adapt to the new level.

***

I walked through the halls, the sound of my boots echoing off the empty walls. The first part of the plan had already begun. Now ca the hardest part: phase two. Leaving NOVA. For that, I needed her permission. The permission of Veronica, the teacher in charge.

I arrived at her office and knocked softly on the door. Her cold gaze pierced as soon as I entered.

"What do you want?" she asked, her tone direct and straightforward.

I took a deep breath, knowing that the words had to co out calmly and without hesitation. I couldn’t let her intimidate .

"I need to go out for a personal matter," I answered, staring into her eyes, trying to make my face look as natural as possible.

Veronica frowned, analyzing for a long mont. Sothing in her gaze showed that she wasn’t entirely convinced.

"I don’t want you to get into trouble, but..." she sighed, resigned. "Okay, go out, but I remind you that she can only go out for three days."

I nodded quickly, with a smile that tried to sound convincing.

"I know, don’t worry. She’ll be on ti for class," I answered, without losing my cool.

He gave a curt nod and without another word I turned around and headed for the door. But before I left, one last warning ca from his lips:

"Be careful. Don’t make regret this."

I didn’t turn around to answer, I just nodded and walked out. I was filled with determination, and there was no ti to hesitate. Phase two had to begin now. At least, at this mont, everything seed to be in my favor.

After a few minutes, I walked through the doors of the facility, taking a deep breath, as if the heavy atmosphere of NOVA had imdiately vanished. The street was quiet. Not a single curious glance, not a soul nearby. My pace quickened, my destination was already clear. I couldn’t waste any ti.

I arrived at the station, and before my eyes appeared the train levitating gently on the rails. The tal structure shone under the sunlight, while the platform gently vibrated from the energy it emanated. The doorman glanced at out of the corner of his eye, as if expecting to see my pass. I showed him the bracelet on my wrist with a simple gesture.

The doorman nodded without saying a word, allowing to board the train. It was one of the benefits for cadets: free transportation across the continent, plus a 30% discount on almost all services and shops you’d find along the way. Grateful for the ease, I climbed aboard and headed to a secluded corner. There, the silence was absolute, and the soft hum of the moving train helped calm down.

I settled into my seat, letting the feeling of being away from NOVA settle in my chest.

***

The train stopped in a small rcantile town near the academy, the scene that awaited was the complete opposite of the calm I had experienced on the train. I found myself in a large, bustling area, filled with people from all corners of the continent, rchants and travelers who were constantly moving. The air was thick with a mix of slls, from spices and herbs to monster at, and the noise was deafening: shouts, vendors haggling over prices, the creaking of wheels on rchandise carts, the clinking of tools and artifacts being displayed.

"Sir, I have the best herbs on the market!" a hairy man shouted, holding up a brown bag that gave off a fragrant aroma. He seed to have a lot of experience in his trade, his shrewd gaze constantly moving from side to side, always attentive to any custor.

He gestured for to co closer, but I ignored him, knowing I couldn’t waste ti. I had a much more important objective.

A little further ahead, a woman with a beautiful face but marked by the scars of past battles beckoned .

"This way!" she called, with a smile. Top quality horned rabbit at, straight from the border area, co and take so young man. I assure you that you will not find better in the entire continent!

Hanging from their stall were several pieces of at, cured and ready to be cooked, even on one side there were small horns that peeked out from the shelf. The horned rabbit was a strange creature, said to be able to move at incredible speed and to catch it would require a group of D-rank hunters. Although its at was exquisite and nutritious, it was not what I ca for.

I walked past, dodging a man selling broken artifacts, apparently mostly low-range weapons and pieces of ancient artifacts.

"Artifacts are repaired!" announced a robust guy, covered in grease and soot. "We also sell tools! I have an adamantine sword that will last you a lifeti, and if sothing breaks, I will give you your money back." You’re not going to find anything better around here!

Although the guy had an air of confidence, my attention was no longer on his shouts. I knew I shouldn’t miss out on the offers, as tempting as they were, all these guys were very cunning and you could end up getting scamd.

The place was full of people of all kinds: street traders, adventurers, magicians in search of rare ingredients, and even hunters with their exotic animals, such as small plant-skinned bears and golden snakes, which slid their bodies between the legs of passersby. However, my objective was clear: I had to get to the cell shop, the famous largest trading house on the entire continent.

The crowd seed to never stop, but as I made my way through, I couldn’t help but notice that sothing in the air seed different. The murmurs among the buyers beca more agitated, and so glances were directed towards a dark corner where a hooded figure was conversing with a group of individuals. The sound of voices was mixed with a strange whisper, as if soone was planning sothing.

I didn’t let that distract , but I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. I had a feeling that things wouldn’t be as easy as I had imagined.
