As they got closer, they saw that it was indeed Ulysses Spann, lying on the ground and wailing. He was covered in dirt, and a few older boys stood nearby. They were probably the ones who had beaten him.

"Go on, tell her! See? I hit you again. Go on and tattle right now if you’ve got the guts!"

An older boy kicked out arrogantly. Ulysses Spann cried even harder, his heart filled with a bitterness worse than dicine. Storm Xavier was instantly enraged. He reached out and slapped the older boy across the face. After the slap, he pulled Ulysses Spann to his feet and carefully brushed the dirt from his clothes.

Tang Xiao’nan’s brow furrowed. ’Is Storm Xavier afraid people *don’t* know about his relationship with Phoenix Golding? Besides, an act like this will only cause more trouble for Verna Golding and her son, Clayton Xavier. Even though the official docunts say class background doesn’t matter anymore, landlords are still treated as second-class citizens in the village.
