Perched on Goldie Thorne’s back, Tang Xiaonan was thrilled. She finally got to go on a long trip! The cool wind felt wonderful on her face. It was still chilly on this June morning, even more so at the foot of the mountain. Tang Xiaonan was wearing a light jacket over a blue and red plaid jumper dress with a white shirt, and she even had on her red leather shoes.

The dress and shoes had been bought in Tristone by a friend of Lana Steiner’s. They were said to be the most fashionable style in Tristone right now. Phoebe Huxley usually couldn’t bear to let Tang Xiaonan wear them, only bringing them out for special trips. She was afraid Tang Xiaonan would look too provincial in Tristone and be looked down on, so she had packed all her best clothes.

"Where’d your third brother go?"

Goldie Thorne looked around for a long ti but couldn’t spot Jim Thorne. They were about to leave. Tang Xiaonan shook her head. She didn’t know where Jim Thorne had gone either; she hadn’t seen him since she woke up this morning.

"Hurry up! I’ve been waiting forever!"

Jim Thorne’s voice ca from a dirt slope up ahead. The guy had gotten there even before them and was waving his hand smugly. Standing beside him was Adrian Hawthorne.

"Your parents agreed?"

Goldie Thorne walked over, gave him a playful kick, and asked with a smile.

"Of course they agreed! How else could I have gotten out?" Jim Thorne said nonchalantly. Goldie Thorne took him at his word and muttered to himself, "Your parents are being surprisingly agreeable this ti. They even let Xiaonan co. They wouldn’t even let you go to Wraven before, but now they’re fine with you going all the way to the south."

"With Uncle here, Mom and Dad feel extra safe."

Tang Xiaonan’s bit of flattery made Goldie Thorne beam with joy. Adrian Hawthorne eyed her suspiciously. ’Little Fatty Tang only lays on the sweet talk when she wants sothing,’ he thought. ’I have a feeling this chubby girl is up to no good.’

"Let’s go. We should try to catch the 10 a.m. train. If we miss it, the next one isn’t until 5:30 p.m."

Adrian Hawthorne had already looked up the train schedule. The 10 a.m. one was the best option. The journey would take two days and one night. They would arrive in the south in the evening, stay one night, and then go out and explore.

"Did you buy the tickets yet?" Goldie Thorne asked.

"It’s not peak season right now, so tickets aren’t hard to get. There are even more sleeper berths available."

Adrian Hawthorne focused on walking, moving at a brisk pace. Goldie Thorne and Jim Thorne were not slow either, as they were all used to walking on mountain paths. Tang Xiaonan yawned and asked sleepily, "Mr. Hawthorne, did you bring the cara?"

’I’m finally getting to go to the south, I have to take a lot of pictures.’

"I did."

Adrian Hawthorne nodded. He hadn’t just brought the cara; he had also brought a dagger for self-defense. It was too chaotic out there, and he was carrying a huge sum of money. He had to be careful.

Tang Xiaonan felt relieved. She let out a few more big yawns and fell sound asleep. She was dead tired.

Jim Thorne took a jacket out of his bag and draped it over Tang Xiaonan. The wind was strong in the mountains, and it was easy to catch a cold. When it ca to his little sister, the usually rough-around-the-edges Jim Thorne was always ticulous.

"So what are we gonna get over there? How about digital watches? That stuff isn’t expensive and it’s easy to sell," Goldie Thorne said enthusiastically.

"We’ll see when we get there."

Adrian Hawthorne was certainly interested in digital watches, but he had a bigger goal in mind. He had recently made inquiries in both Wraven and Vessaria. While electronic products sold well, the cost was too high. He didn’t have that much capital right now—only two thousand yuan in total. He needed to find a product with low startup costs and high returns. After so investigation, he decided that fabric was the most suitable option.

Right now, the hottest seller was dacron. It was cheap, durable, and ca in many patterns, and there was huge demand for it from the common people. But you needed ration coupons to buy fabric these days. If he could just get his hands on so cheap dacron, he wouldn’t have to worry about sales at all.

Once he had more capital, he could get into electronics too. He didn’t really think much of things like digital watches. He wanted to go big: radios, televisions, fans, things like that. There were plenty of people in the city with cash in hand, but nowhere to spend it.
