Transmigrated as the Villain Boss's Precious Darling Chapter 55: Reciting the Song of the Solar Terms
Seeing that she truly didn’t want it, Raina passed the egg to Jim Thorne. Jim was about to accept—he wouldn’t have minded ten of them—but when he caught Tang Xiaonan’s dark, unnerving stare, he shuddered and pulled his bowl away.
He even split half of it and gave it to Goldie Thorne beside him. "I don’t like eggs either. Uncle, you eat it."
Jim was trembling, his heart aching. ’How could I possibly not like them? But Xiaonan’s stare is just too creepy. I’m scared.’
Byron Thorne smiled in satisfaction. His grandchildren had beco much more sensible lately. A new year, a new beginning. Especially his little granddaughter; she was pretty, well-behaved, and smart. She even knew how to say, "filial piety is the foremost of all virtues." His sixth brother had ntioned it to him yesterday, full of nothing but praise!
Shane Thorne had co to play chess with Byron Thorne yesterday and had brought up what happened three days ago, heaping praise on Tang Xiaonan.
"Brother, you need to raise that little Xiaonan of yours properly. As for Howard and the other two—and don’t be angry I’m saying this—they’re basically not going to amount to much. Marry them off, let them live quiet lives, and if they manage to stay out of trouble, you can consider it an honor to the ancestors. But Xiaonan is different. That girl has a spark. Don’t underestimate her just because she’s a girl."
Shane Thorne’s opinion of Tang Xiaonan was very high. While Byron Thorne was sowhat surprised, he was also very happy. He didn’t have a preference for boys over girls; boys or girls, they were all the blood of the Thorne family. It was a good thing as long as they showed promise.
Moreover, Byron Thorne had great faith in Shane Thorne. His sixth brother had traveled far and wide, was worldly and experienced, and his insights were naturally extraordinary. Several major events he had predicted in the past had all co true.
"Your uncle doesn’t do any work, so why should he be eating an egg? Jim, eat it yourself."
Raina shot a fierce glare at her youngest son. Goldie Thorne was just about to eat the egg, but at her glare, his hand trembled, and the half-egg fell back into his bowl. He felt even more miserable.
’Man... I really need to find a way to make so money. Otherwise, my own mother is going to keep treating worse than any stepmother.’
"Let’s eat!"
Byron Thorne had spoken. Raina shot her son another glare before lowering her head to eat. Goldie Thorne breathed a sigh of relief and began to eat his egg in peace. He felt quite grateful to his young nephew. ’When I make money in the future, I’ll have to buy him lots of candy.’
But Raina was still uneasy. She had heard so gossip and needed to verify it with Jim Thorne.
"A few days ago, did your father have you kids take at to the Hawthorne family?"
Jim Thorne nodded.
"How much did you give them?" Raina’s eyes turned fierce. It left an even more bitter taste in her mouth.
’No wonder he brought at yesterday. It was just to shut up about this!’
Jim Thorne was about to tell the truth, but Tang Xiaonan cut in, "This much!"
She gestured with her hands, indicating a narrow strip that wasn’t even a pound. Jim looked surprised but kept his mouth shut.
Raina felt a little better but was still annoyed. She said unhappily, "From now on, you’re not allowed to give them anything at all. We barely have enough for ourselves, so why are we giving at to outsiders? And don’t go playing with that jinx from the Hawthorne family. Aren’t you afraid of catching their bad luck?"
Tang Xiaonan pouted and said loudly, "Mr. Hawthorne saved ! He’s a good person! And Grandpa Tate has been teaching my letters. I can even recite the Song of the Solar Terms!"
She then looked at Jim Thorne and said, "My third brother can recite it too. Grandpa Tate even said he’s smart."
Jim Thorne imdiately straightened his back and nodded vigorously. It was the first ti anyone had ever called him smart; he’d rember it for the rest of his life. And that was why he had such a good impression of Old Master Tate.
Byron Thorne’s interest was piqued. "Let’s hear it."
Jim Thorne grew bashful. He wasn’t very confident; it would be too humiliating if he made a mistake. Tang Xiaonan gave him a sharp kick under the table. Jim flinched and began to recite loudly.
