Benjamin looked at her and shook his head. "You can’t join either."
"Why?"
Stormfront’s voice rose sharply. Her brows drew together as she said softly, "Ben, co on... We used to be husband and wife. Did you forget?"
Her breathing was a little uneven, her chest rising and falling beneath her trench coat.
"We fought side by side for so many years, and now you’re telling that your wife can’t join your team?"
Holander stood behind them, quietly watching the drama unfold.
So this was his father’s forr wife?
He studied Stormfront and could sense that she was fairly powerful.
Judging by the look of it, she might even have a near-immortal constitution like his father.
Of course, Stormfront still was not as strong as he was. He was sure of that.
As for Benjamin’s immortality, that was no longer a secret, not to the public. After all, Benjamin was that powerful.
Benjamin said, "Fine. Let ask you sothing first. You’re on a mission, and you happen to see a Black man and an Asian man passing by. What do you do?"
Stormfront did not even blink. "Take care of them on the way, of course."
"Fuck."
Benjamin closed his eyes and took a deep breath, utterly speechless.
"Stormfront, this is exactly why I won’t let you join The Seven. If you could get rid of those extre views, maybe I’d agree for the sake of our old relationship. But if you join, Vought is fucking finished. I’m trying to make it a real superhero company, do you understand? A real one, not an act. Your ideology is completely opposed to what I’m trying to do, so get the fuck out of here."
"My God, Ben."
Stormfront tilted her head and looked at him. The smile on her lips faded, replaced by disappointnt and confusion.
"When the hell did you beco this childish? Superheroes? Don’t make laugh. This world has never run on justice and kindness. If justice and kindness mattered, why have there been so many wars throughout human history? Why? Everything cos down to power. Supe power. We stand above ordinary humans. That is a fact, not sothing you can pretend doesn’t exist. You insist on building so superhero company and playing house with those weak little cowards... Who knows? Maybe once we Supes are in charge, there won’t be any more wars, and fewer people will die."
Holander rubbed his chin.
Why did that sound kind of reasonable?
Benjamin raised his hand again. This punch was heavier than the last, and Stormfront flew backward once more, slamming into a streetlight pole.
But Stormfront did not fall. Instead, her eyes grew brighter with excitent.
Many years ago... Stormfront had asked Benjamin to hit her too.
Of course, he might have hit her even harder back then.
"Ben, listen."
She wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, her voice turning even softer.
"I know you really want to have so fun with ... It’s been a long ti since we... But don’t get too worked up. I promise you, I’ll control myself from now on and play this superhero make-believe ga with you. Okay? Ben, let join The Seven."
Benjamin looked at the flush spreading across her striking face and fell silent for a mont.
He was simply speechless. He even suspected this might have been why Clara had fallen for him back then.
Stormfront was the kind of woman who felt good after getting beaten up.
He had no idea how the original body had fallen in love with soone like this.
In the world of The Boys, there were plenty of insane people with insane powers, and not a single one of them was normal, except for him.
He lowered his fist.
"Get the fuck out of here. Report to Vought tomorrow. I’ll have Ashley release so new rules for Vought’s Supes. If you don’t follow them, I’ll beat the shit out of you again, then kick you out of The Seven. Got it?"
"Hey, baby."
Stormfront wiped the last trace of blood from her face. The smile on her lips had fully returned, even carrying a faint satisfaction left over from the beating.
"Just beating up is fine. That’s a reward for , isn’t it?"
As soon as she finished speaking, her body shot up from the ground.
Electric light flickered around Stormfront.
Her trench coat billowed behind her, swelling into a full arc in the rushing air.
A mont later, Stormfront cut an almost invisible trail across the New York night sky and quickly vanished into the lights of Manhattan.
"Fuck. Damn superpowered flight. I hate flying."
Hearing that, Holander’s face went stiff.
He held back his laugh, unless he wanted to get beaten up by his old man.
...
Soon, the two finished their walk and returned to their own apartnts.
Holander had wanted to live with Benjamin, but Benjamin rejected him and even called him a wimp, so he gave up on the idea...
Besides, they saw each other every day. And sotis, when Holander ca ho late after drinking, he could pretend to be drunk and have his father take him back.
As soon as Benjamin returned, the system’s voice sounded.
[You allowed Holander, who has been lonely for half his life, to experience what father-son affection feels like, especially through the scene of father and son fighting enemies side by side. You also helped him understand what friendship is. Although you did not tell him at first, he does not hate your lies or expectations, because in his eyes, perhaps they are proof that you love him.
Reward: Super Defense Lv5 upgraded to Lv6.]
Benjamin was already too tired to even curse at the system.
