A few hours later, the two of them stood before the librarian. The man looked at him with a polite, gentle smile while Mitsuki placed the books Ellegaard had given him on the counter, along with the ones he had taken on his own.

"You want to borrow these, right?" the man asked.

Mitsuki nodded without looking him in the eye. Behind him, Ellegaard had her dozen books floating beside her.

"I see. There is a fee for renting books, and in your case there are four, so the price will be four bronze coins," he replied, picking up a magical wooden stamp that rested beside him. The seal had the shape of three intersecting circles, like overlapping drops of water. "I should also ntion that once the books leave the library, you will have two months to return them. Therefore, I recomnd returning them as soon as possible, or the seal will activate and reveal your location to the library’s administration."

Mitsuki nodded again. "I see..."

’That’s a bit extre, but considering I could walk out of here with the books and never co back, it makes sense that libraries would have a system like this.’

He pulled out a silver coin and handed it to the librarian, who with a simple movent of his fingers made five bronze coins appear on the table.

"Here is your change."

Mitsuki bowed slightly as he took the coins and the books. Then he stepped aside so Ellegaard could do her part. Once everything was finished and they left the establishnt, she tapped the tip of her scepter against the ground and the books vanished.

’I should do the sa,’ he thought, activating his Spatial Storage. The books dissolved into ash, and the notifications on the tattoo appeared—though they were invisible to anyone else.

They walked through the narrow streets of the city, heading back toward the inn. The entire way, Ellegaard didn’t say a word; she walked calmly as if the place were her ho, unlike Mitsuki, who felt the gazes of so people. Uncomfortable, he shrugged and tried to ignore them, but then he felt sothing strange: a mysterious tingling touched his left forearm.

Confused, he lifted the sleeve of his coat, and his eyes widened in surprise. Instantly afterward, he closed his eyes and clenched his fist in anger.

What his tattoo showed him was:

[ People have begun to tell your story. ]

[ You have obtained the title "Poisoned Cake". ]

’No way...’ He stopped in his tracks; flas of anger burned in his stomach. ’When I find the bastard who ca up with this stupid nickna, I’LL BEAT HIM TO A PULP!’

A few seconds passed before he managed to calm down. However, the elf was nowhere to be seen anymore.

’Ellegaard? Where did she go?’

Like a lost child, he looked around in confusion, but found no trace of her. Disappointed, he sighed tiredly and shook his head.

’After all the tis she said I’d fall behind, this ti it actually happened.’

Walking toward the inn on his own, he glanced at his arm one last ti, frustrated by the ridiculous nickna they had given him. However, now he understood one very important thing.

’I’ll have ti to be offended by this garbage later. For now, I know how titles are obtained, but I don’t know what they’re for. Maybe they contain power or sothing else. But what kind of power could such a humiliating title possibly hold? This makes no sense.’ He covered the tattoo again and focused on the road. ’In monts like this, an information section for everything the system contains would be really helpful, but I guess they’re not going to make it easy for .’

It was as if life itself were telling him: "Figure it out on your own, lazy bum!" Easier said than done. Fortunately, it wasn’t the first ti he had faced this kind of problem, since many tis he had encountered scenarios in video gas that seed impossible. With effort and patience, he managed to complete each of those impossible challenges, which eventually led him to the top.

He shook his head, pushing away the pessimistic thoughts.

’Well, I’m the best, so there’s nothing I can’t solve. I just need to keep following the "story" until I reach the end.’

With that in mind, he pushed through the crowd, heading toward the inn, whose location he had easily morized.

As he walked calmly, he felt soone’s gaze burning into his back. Instinctively, he looked toward a dark alley filled with boxes at the corner of the comrcial district, but he found no one.

’Maybe I’m being too paranoid, but I’ve noticed that after that Master of Cinder almost killed , my sensory abilities improved slightly. People’s stares are even more unpleasant than in my ho world.’

Thinking it was just a strange thought, he continued. However, there really was soone in that alley: that blond man in his ridiculous silver armor, silently watching him.

***

Before reaching the inn, Mitsuki ran into a problem. He had been walking peacefully without anyone bothering him, but that was precisely the problem—soone ca to bother him! It was Jeanne, who appeared out of absolutely nowhere and wrapped her arm around his shoulder.

Mitsuki flinched, then froze like a possum. Jeanne smiled with satisfaction at her "friend’s" reaction.

"Finally found you, Mitsuki," she whispered in his ear, so friendly it was almost frightening, with that soft and sensual voice that sent shivers down his spine. "Ellegaard arrived without you, so I thought she had left you behind. I an, how could that woman leave you alone when there are so many dangerous people around? So I decided to walk around the city until I finally saw you here."

"Oh, well, I..." Mitsuki murmured. The little blood he had in his slender body rushed to his face, painting his skin the crimson color of embarrassnt. He looked away, pretending the first thing he saw was the scenery and not the princess’s chest beneath her armor. ’I don’t even want to imagine what kind of search thod you used to find so quickly...’

"Since you looked so lonely, I wondered: do you always have that gloomy aura when you’re by yourself? It’s like you have a shield that pushes people away."

Mitsuki sighed, and the embarrassnt left his body, replaced by offense. ’Yeah, sure. As if it wasn’t enough that you took my first ti, now you’re going to rub it in that I’m a living being repellent. Well, I’m very sorry, princess, that’s just how I am—and I like it that way.’

That would have been an excellent speech if he had said it to Jeanne instead of just thinking it, but all he showed was resignation. And the princess noticed, because she was already showing that eerie little smile from last night.

"Let’s go train, shall we? Let’s make your muscles grow a bit, just like mine."

When she ntioned that, all of Mitsuki’s mories focused on a single mont—the mont when their bodies had joined in a completely indecent act...

Jeanne was certainly a bit more robust than a stereotypical princess, but she still looked extrely feminine and sensual. Not to ntion that defined abdon that had made Mitsuki drool.

"If I could be like that, I—"

"Since you accepted, let’s go to the forest outside."

"What? Wait! Huuuh?!"

Before he could finish speaking, Jeanne was already dragging him by the hand toward the city’s exit.

"Wait! I haven’t had lunch yet!"

"We’ll buy sothing on the way. Lots of at."

’God! What’s wrong with this woman?! Why ?!’ he scread internally. Then he resigned himself to walking beside her, as she held his hand with a cute smile and without feeling the slightest bit of embarrassnt.

She was undoubtedly a free-spirited woman, soone who let no one step on her and lived life without caring what others thought. Despite being the firstborn of a king, she was anything but a princess. That was the part of her that stood out the most—sothing Mitsuki secretly admired, his eyes shining.

A walking disaster with blonde hair: a Mad Princess.
