Chapter 1158: I’ll Always Wait for You

Editor: Henyee Translations

When Feng Jue, Gu Jin and the rest rushed to the orphanage, they saw ruins.

Director Liang had been shot and was lying there on his last breath.

The children were locked in the school building.

But they searched the entire orphanage and couldn’t find Gu Yang.

In the end, their gazes landed on the ruins.

...

Sirens wailed in the distance as police cars, ambulances, and fire engines arrived.

Feng Jue didn’t seem to notice. He knelt on the ground, his trembling hands pulling away pieces of rubble, now slick with his own blood from shards of glass. He had searched day and night, yet she was nowhere to be found.

Rain poured, shrouding the world in darkness. Kneeling in the ruins, his eyes red-rimmed, he looked up—his gaze void of all light.

“Sister!”

Feng Jue jolted awake, sitting up in bed.

Outside the window, rain beat down, and lightning streaked across the sky, casting shadows over his worn expression as thunder rumbled above.

Pressing a hand to his brow, he realized he had dreamt of the incident at Cloud Rising Orphanage five years ago.

He checked his phone: nearly six o’clock. Rising, he made his way to Gu Yang’s hospital room.

It was May now—almost three months since the light cone experiment at Katie Manor.

For these past months, he had spent nearly every day at the Xiao family’s private hospital, often by Gu Yang’s side whenever he could spare the time.

Unlike five years ago, when Gu Yang had vanished without a trace, Feng Jue could now at least be by her side, holding onto hope that she might wake up someday.

Gu Jin was there too, staying in Gu Yang’s ward. Both young women were well-versed in medicine, so it was more convenient for Gu Jin to tend to her sister’s care.

Feng Jue’s only wish now was for Gu Yang to wake up—there was no room for jealousy.

Gu Jin was administering a nutrient solution, her usually cold eyes looking weary.

When Feng Jue entered, they exchanged a quiet glance, saying nothing.

As he did every day, Feng Jue helped with Gu Yang’s care. Afterward, he sat beside her, keeping her pany through the day.

Though unaware that Gu Yang’s state was beyond consciousness, that she couldn’t hear him, he continued speaking to her.

“Sister, it’s spring now. The cherry blossoms on Hua University’s campus are all in bloom. Cao Cuo’s Big Orange and the neighbor’s Persian cat have had a litter of kittens. One of them even has blue and yellow eyes.”

He gently traced her eyebrows, his voice soft, as if he might disturb her in whatever dream held her.

“Sister, when you wake up, let’s go see the flowers and play with the kittens, okay?”

But the girl lay silent, eyes closed, like a princess under a spell. This wasn’t a fairytale—there was no way to break the spell and wake her.

Since Gu Yang had fallen unconscious, the Xiao family had consulted renowned doctors, collaborating with Gu Jin on treatment ideas. Still, nothing worked.

Among Utopia’s confiscated equipment was a device created by a Physicist, designed to detect human consciousness. Yet, in Gu Yang’s body, there was nothing—no sign of awareness, as though her soul had slipped away.

Experts in the Mutant Department obtained data from the light cone experiment and had been studying ways to wake her. Gu Jin and Feng Jue, both knowledgeable in physics, often visited the department to follow the research progress.

According to their findings, Gu Yang’s consciousness might have returned to a time before the final light cone experiment.

Feng Jue looked at her peaceful face, gently holding her hand. “Sister once crossed time and space to be with us for seven years. Now… is she the one lost for seven years?” He paused, his voice resolute. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll wait. Even if it’s seven years… or longer.”

Even if she never returned, he would wait, for however long it took, until time faded and he was gone.
