Chapter 1178: Goodbye, Ryan

Editor: Henyee Translations

Team Blue Whale signed up for a new international eSports petition.

To represent China on this global stage, they first needed to bee champions of the Chinese regional qualifiers.

Longtime fans of Team Blue Whale felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. They were thrilled by the team’s official eback but concerned about whether they could reach the same heights they had once achieved. Expectations were high, and no one knew if they could reclaim their former glory.

Regardless of the public’s sentiments, the team had already started their intensive training.

Cao Cuo transformed the second floor of Grass-Raising Internet Cafe into a dedicated eSports training room, while Feng Jue’s Dream Seeking Group provided top-tier equipment.

...

Gu Jin developed a rigorous, scientifically-backed training program, helping newers Gu Pei, Qin Xian, and Chu Nanming fully integrate into Team Blue Whale.

Although Gu Yang didn’t participate directly in the training, she often visited Grass-Raising Internet Cafe to bring food or spend time with the team.

During this period, Xiao Yize informed Gu Yang that Ryan, Ning Shen, and the others had regained consciousness.

The Ji family was eager to learn the whereabouts of Ji Minghui’s body from Ryan, but he had been unresponsive since waking and refused to speak. As an SSS-ranked hypnotist with formidable mental defenses, Ryan couldn’t be easily interrogated by the Mutant Department.

Xiao Yize, aware of Gu Yang’s own SSS-rank abilities, reached out to her for assistance, and Ji Linbai also came to ask for her help.

Gu Yang agreed.

Xiao Yize escorted Gu Yang to the Mutant Department’s prison.

Through the iron-barred window, Gu Yang saw a familiar face from her memories. Ryan, once vibrant and posed, now looked worn and defeated—far from the confident figure he had been at Cloud Rising Orphanage.

She sat down across from him, emotions stirred as she faced the person who had once been both her teacher and friend.

At her arrival, Ryan’s vacant eyes regained a glimmer of recognition. His gaze, still gentle and kind, rested on her. His voice was soft, familiar. “You’re awake too.”

Gu Yang nodded slightly. Seeing his broken demeanor, she guessed that his plans had likely crumbled.

“Do you regret it?” she asked, her tone steady but probing.

Ryan met her gaze in silence, haunted. In his mind, scenes from his country’s brutal war replayed—a nightmare he couldn’t escape. He saw, again, his loved ones fall one by one under a hail of bullets, while he could do nothing to save them. He was like a ghost trapped in time, forced to watch as his family and friends were taken from him.

He had clung to his ideals with desperation, gambling everything to escape those memories. But now, all that remained was the agony of reliving the past—an empty victory, stripped of purpose.

‘Do you regret it?’

Ryan didn’t know.

But he did not resolutely say “even if I die nine times, I will not regret it” like what Gu Yang asked him back then.

There was a long pause. Ryan looked at her and said, “You remember now?”

“You sent me back to the past.” Gu Yang said.

Ryan was slightly stunned. Then, he suddenly smiled, his eyes sad. “Mobius Ring… I see, I see.”

Gu Yang asked, “I want to know, where is the real Ji Minghui?”

This time, Ryan did not resist answering. “The capital’s psychiatric hospital, ward 4 of the ICU.”

Gu Yang was stunned and asked in surprise, “He’s still alive?”

Ryan nodded, noticing the surprise on Gu Yang’s face, which stirred a mix of emotions within him. “Yangyang, he was never part of your life. From the start, it was only me—your teacher and friend.”

“I know,” Gu Yang replied, her tone laced with irony. “It was all a performance. To deceive me, Chief went so far as to have Singer hypnotize you, making you live as Ji Minghui. She even fooled herself. Quite the mitment,” she added with a wry smile.
